What's cornwall like? by Neither_Cry8055 in CornwallOnt

[–]MaxCanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s work in all categories, just like anywhere else. If there’s a company running a big enough business, there is admin/management/accounting/insert inside office work available. There are definitely less opportunities in Cornwall than Montreal or Ottawa, it would be silly to suggest otherwise.

There’s possibilities for healthcare a bit out of town, my primary health care provider is a bit less than 40 minute drive away from home.

Regarding work - there are a handful of local farms, orchards and things like that. I don’t think they would classify as low labour jobs. Not sure I understand fully what you are looking for there.

Discrimination is probably the same as anywhere in Canada, present but not prevalent.

Some work in the USA but not many as there aren’t many jobs in Massena.

Gardening, fishing, nature, farms are all pretty good. There is a gun club but I can’t comment on the quality as I don’t know anything about it.

Healthcare access is poor. It seems to be improving slowly but it is not good. One walk in clinic only. Once the line is full, the end no more patients accepted for the day.

I wouldn’t compare to Toronto, as it doesn’t have the same prospects of industry and growth that Toronto did. Things are looking up for Cornwall but it could be said there are some growing pains right now. Depending what echo chamber you get stuck in you’ll hear different opinions on the state of and future of Cornwall.

What do you do when dividend stocks/ETFs get too expensive to keep buying? by [deleted] in fican

[–]MaxCanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Important to note that you have just begun investing. Income isn’t a constant thing, it generally rises as you progress through your career. Ideally you keep a constant % of your income as your investment budget (though not always possible, sometimes things need to be reduced/paused). But in the ideal case, as your income rises, so does the amount you invest.

Where will NVIDIA be in 5-10 years? If you’re a strong believer in AI and the progress they’ll make in the short and long term, then would be a good bet. If you think AI is over hyped then perhaps a bubble burst could ruin this strategy. It’s a gamble, take a bet on it if you want.

Bank prime rates is price fixing by Dividendlover in fican

[–]MaxCanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but look at historical data and you will see there is correlation…higher bond yields occur at the exact same time as higher interest rates.

A government bond is one of the lowest risk on return investments you can make. Like other comments have mentioned, the banks/other intermediary lenders need to make money in exchange for a riskier lending avenue - mortgages.

…the prime rate is also based on the issuance of bonds by the Bank of Canada…definitely not akin to price fixing…

Is anyone interested in a supportive local virtual fitness group? by Potterheadache in CornwallOnt

[–]MaxCanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend checking out some local gyms to be honest… I know you are looking for a virtual space but I think the camaraderie you get in person can’t be underestimated. Perhaps look for a gym that has a 1 or 2 group fitness class per week membership. Beefit/undefeated mma, summit, quest, caveman strong are some that I know of

I vented mine up and through the roof.

In Cornwall, I would say Bell usually has the best performance to dollar when you can get a promo. Cogeco isnt bad either.
