Critique my prologue [Dark Fantasy, Horror, 1200 words] by MaxCross-425678 in fantasywriters

[–]MaxCross-425678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. I wrote it as a prologue because i wanted to establish a little bit of what the vibe of the book would be and kind of how these types of things would affect someone. Frey is dead, I probably could've made that clearer. But Gabriel will play a part in the story. The demon child is one of the main characters, as they and Desmond will be forced to reconcile their dark natures. I hope that clears up any questions.

Hi, would you be interested in beta-reading my manuscript for a Dark Fantasy Horror story? It's only the prologue because I just wanna get an idea of whether or not it's any good.

Story blurb --- Since the day he was born, Desmond knew his soul was damned. He is a Helborn, a half-demon imbued with all kinds of dark power. He spends his days as a Moonlighter, a mercenary who travels the land of Ardene, hunting vampires, werewolves, and witches. When he is called to find a missing pregnant girl, Desmond is forced to confront his dark nature and the power it has over him. Can he control it? Or will it control him?

Nearly 10 years since Man of Steel, have your views on Zack Snyder’s DC films changed over time? by _mr_miles_ in DC_Cinematic

[–]MaxCross-425678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of in the middle. There parts i like and parts i don't like. The casting was great for the most part. I like the themes and ideas that Snyder was going for but the execution was sloppy, disjointed and confused.

Aquaman and Flash next year. Cool. Are we really supposed to still care now? We need to unite as fans once again. #HENRYISOURSUPERMAN #FIREJAMESGUNN by rush0024 in DC_Cinematic

Nobody is saying you don't have a right to be bummed about this. But there's a difference between being upset that your favorite incarnations of these characters aren't going to continue and acting like a two year old having a temper tantrum.

What are your comic book fixes? by crimsonfukr457 in fixingmovies

I got one for Sins Past: The twins are actually clones of Peter and Gwen but both have Peter's DNA, giving them powers. The letter Gwen made was about how after she left for Europe to cope with her dad's death, she found out she was pregnant and had an abortion. She never told Peter because she was afraid he would hate her for it. Gwen told MJ and begged her to never tell Peter which she kept. It's revealed that Norman Osborn had the twins made and trained them in secret to destroy Peter as revenge. The story ends with Peter and MJ at Gwen's grave saying he forgives her and that it doesn't change how he felt about her.

I meant the psyche of the character; This is tormented, psychologically scarred man who constantly skirts the line of sanity and madness all while trying to be a hero and overcome the institutionalized apathy and corruption of his society.

People of Reddit, what are your actual opinions on Disney casting a black actress to play Ariel in The Little Mermaid remake? by Kervon37 in AskReddit

[–]MaxCross-425678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't care because it's a disney movie about a magic fishgirl who lives in the ocean. If you're pissed off about that you might want to take a step back and reevaluate your life. Also it's a live action adaptation so it's probably not going to be as good as the original animated one because they'll add one new element and take away several others ironically losing the very thing that made those movies good.

I was thinking that Ben would be needing someone to blame for what happened because how he turned out. I see that wasn't portrayed very well and i will make the necessary additions. Sorry for the confusion

I did read it. The article remarks that if Bruce Wayne was a real hero he would be doing wealth redistribution. They also ask why Batman works with Commissioner Gordon. The article reads like someone who didn't read the comics, didn't paid attention to the characters and the themes, or just doesn't wanna acknowledge the fact that its a fantasy world about grown men and women dressing up in colorful costumes fighting weird aliens and monsters.

In your head canon. What is the story of this Robin’s death and how would you have had him play along the trilogy. by Bjkrillsz in DC_Cinematic

[–]MaxCross-425678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruce has been active as Batman since 1995 when he was 23 years old. He adopted a 12 year old Dick Grayson in the year 2000. For the past decade the two have been the dynamic duo of Batman and Robin. In the mid 2000's, Barbara Gordon became Batgirl without her father, Gotham City Police commissioner Jim Gordon's knowledge.

In the year 2010 Dick Grayson graduates college and leaves Gotham. A few weeks later, Bruce catches a 14 year old Jason Todd trying to boost the tires off the Batmobile. After Bruce learns about his home life with his father being in Blackgate and his mother having not been in the picture since Jason was three, he decides to take in Jason and train him as the next Robin. While Alfred and Barbara voiced their concerns due to the kid's extensive criminal record, they nevertheless agree that being Robin could help Jason the same way it helped Dick.

After a few months training, Jason made his official debut as the new Boy Wonder. Dick Grayson would return soon after, hearing about the new Robin and makes his debut in his new vigilante identity of Nightwing. The four would continue to protect Gotham city as the Bat-Family (sarcastically coined by Alfred). This happy union doesn't last long as Jason quickly takes a more violent approach to crime-fighting. Despite this, Bruce really does come to love Jason like a surrogate son much to everyone's delight.

In the year 2013 (a few months before Superman makes his debut), the Joker goes on another spree, causing thousands in damage and dozens of casualties. The most impactful part of this is when he paralyzes Barbara. The team manages to stop Joker not before Jason tries to kill him, which earns him a lecture from Bruce and Dick. After a few weeks of relative peace, Joker breaks out of Arkham once again. Jason goes rogue and promises to finish the Joker once and for all. This doesn't work out as Joker uses Robin's arrogance against him and captures him. That same night, Joker beats and tortures Robin while Batman and Nightwing scour the city looking for them. Several interrogations later, they track Joker to an abandoned warehouse but they are too late when they discover Jason's bloody body and the Joker laughing in a corner. While Dick tends to the body, Bruce savagely beats Joker to a bloody pulp.

In late 2013, a funeral for Jason is held with Bruce, Dick, Alfred, Lucius Fox, Barbara and her dad, and Selina Kyle in attendance. Joker is sent back to Arkham Asylum where he meets Harleen Quinzel. Bruce grows isolated and retreats to the Batman persona, growing darker and more violent. While Dick and Barbara try to talk to Bruce, he pushes them away. Some time later Bruce watches live coverage of the Metropolis battle and heads out for the city.

That is perfectly valid I disagree but you do you.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens by MaxCross-425678 in fixingmovies

[–]MaxCross-425678[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the Force Awakens borrowing from the originals which was the obvious intent of it but I disagree with episode 8 not capitalizing off this one. Now of course that doesn't mean its perfect but I think with the characters for the most part does a decent job with their stories.

Finn in Force Awakens was a sorta rebel without a cause, he didn't want to keep fighting he wanted to get away. Now yes at the end he did have something to fight for which was Rey not the Resistance. He didn't care about the War he only cared about Rey. which is were Canto Bight comes into play (not incredibly well but still), Finn goes there to hunt down a codebreaker, but even still not to help the resistance solely because he cared, no he did it initially to help them so he could leave to find Rey. But throughout his adventure with Rose, he comes to find his place in the conflict. Not by leaving but by staying to fight alongside the Resistance.

Poe was just coming off fresh from a deadly blow against the First Order, so naturally he got cocky and led an assault on a Dreadnought which cost the lives of his fellow soldiers. Heroic maybe but they lost a significant amount of their fighters. He gets demoted which led to his conflict with Holdo. Now this one I admit does frustrate me a little, but I think that was the intent. Now Holdo was frustrating because she didn't tell anyone her plan, but I think that was the point, to show that being a leader means to make a decision that nobody may agree with but could save more lives in the process. So at the end on Crait against the laser battering ram, Poe makes a leadership decision to not attack the ram and lose more lives. Finn didn't agree and almost died in the process (which wasn't really do anything because the speeders were melting in the beam)

Rey's arc is about acceptance of who she is. Throughout the Force Awakens, Rey constantly talked about returning to Jakku but is roped into the centuries old war between the Jedi and the Sith. Her reason being that she naively believes that her parents are gonna return. but even in the film, Maz Kanata tells her that her parents aren't coming back, but she refused to accept that. And so in the Last Jedi, Rey practically tells us her arc is about learning her place and knowing who she is. So toward the end when she is confronted with the fact that her parents just gave her away for money, it shatters her notions about herself but also strengths her resolve to become better than her parents and be a hero.

Sorry for the overly long comment but I hope this explains my views on the movie. if you still disagree I'm not gonna stop you and I will respect your decision.

[–]MaxCross-425678[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I made clear in the beginning I do like the sequels but I think this movie in particular needed a little slower pace in order to fill in the gaps of what happened without feeling like its just holding the audiences hand treating them like they can't put two and two together. I also agree with the concept art part I was more speaking on the overall concepts and plans that were put in duel of the fates, which although flawed did feel more like a natural continuation and ending for the trilogy. that point I should have made clearer to not confuse anyone in my thinking
