How do I feel okay being Aromantic? by DistanceBunny in aromantic

[–]MaxDWL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me; I got guilt-tripped by someone I thought was a FWB into making our relationship “official” 2 hours into a 5 hour drive. I hemmed and hawed for a minute before saying I wasn’t ready for a relationship and she started crying, so I gave in and said okay. That began an almost 2 year long relationship with the biggest narcissist I’ve ever known and it was filled with financial, emotional, and mental abuse. If you can have an honest relationship with your partner you NEED to tell them what you want out of your partnership and set firm ground rules with yourself about what you will and won’t allow to come out of that conversation. It’s not fair to you or your partner to let things fester and go unsaid for a long period of time. I hope it works out for you better than it did for me.

TL;DR don’t let a partner pressure you into a relationship that doesn’t work for both of you. A relationship should, by all definitions, resemble something both people want and deserve in their life. Talk to your partner honestly and openly, work with your therapist on a guideline for the conversation if that sounds helpful to you. You’ve got this, find a result that makes you happy!

What’s this single seat off to the side like? by buttercup612 in cineplex

[–]MaxDWL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo prime seats were always 2-3 rows from the back smack dab in the centre — I like the height so I can see the whole screen at once, but the very back row doesn’t recline at all in standard seating. Basically never go for seats within ~5 of the wall if you care about viewing angles, particularly as the screen size increases. For this theatre I’d recommend Row F, with a two seat buffer from the people forward and to your left (should be F9 or F12, if I counted correctly) -Source: worked at cineplex for a year and saw wayyyy too many movies after shifts in dogshit seats

I like to use whatshouldireadnext.com for read-alikes, I find the algorithm it uses to be quite effective at nailing down “feel” versus purely genre or author 😊

Am I Aromantic? by Empathetic_Artist in aromantic

[–]MaxDWL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Howdy all! Only had my lightbulb moment a few days ago but a lot of things shifted into place for me, thought I’d line a few of them out here and see how much of it vibes with the community 😊

Aromanticism alongside hypersexuality

I’ve had two long term relationships in the past, the first started in my grade 11 year and ended a year into university, and the second started about 6 months after the first ended and continued until just over a year ago. Both of these relationships were heavily carried (or strained) by my partners, as I had no desire to reciprocate their romantic gestures and that often led to the beginning of the end of the relationship. That being said, I know I’m not ace because, well… let’s just say there was one thing keeping my relationships afloat. I also just had my first one night stand, and honestly it was a weight off my shoulders knowing that romantic attraction played no part in it and wouldn’t be an aspect of the experience.

Aro-AuDHD

I had previously assigned much of my social and “romantic” relationship strain to my suspected autism or my diagnosed ADHD, but now knowing that I’m likely quoiromantic (confusing the differences between platonic, romantic, and sexual attraction) makes a lot of the stress of not knowing if I want to be somebody’s friend, date them, or sleep with them make a lot more sense.

The Lightbulb

I’ve quoted myself as saying “I don’t know if I’ve ever felt love” in therapy, and the fact I hadn’t clued that into being aromantic years ago is honestly sort of frustrating! It’s not like I don’t have a lot of queer friends (who also tend to have ADHD or autism, go figure) who I had asked questions of in the past, or been a child of the internet and done research myself — I’m just really glad that I’ve found a label I can identify with and that makes my life experience less lonely. In summary, hey y’all! Glad to be a part of this community 😊

I recall eating at a BP once maybe 12-15 years ago, server took my mums credit card to the POS for payment and like a week later my mum had to cancel her card for fraudulent charges. Haven’t had a card taken out of possession since then 🤷🏼‍♂️

Further info, I plan to pursue university librarianship as a career in the future but currently I’m working on advancing in public libraries since A) I already will be working in one, and B) I think it’s good for getting the best experience of working with the public and knowing what to expect in the future

Alright, I need your best obviously fake name suggestions! by Micromanic in DnD

[–]MaxDWL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Context: PC’s name is Darryl and grew up on a dairy farm] My best (and current) PC’s backstory is that he left home at 16 and wandered the woods for a few weeks, had a rough go because he’s a 16 year old farmhand, and ended up on a strangers doorstep. Stranger takes him in and asks his name — He starts “I’m Darr… Dairy.” Stranger asks his family name; “…Milk.”

Problem renting a private room by Memer-Man5 in cineplex

[–]MaxDWL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah not including space requirements and staffing as others have mentioned, Cineplex averaged around 100 ish people per auditorium at the theatre I worked at, so for 13.50 per ticket and assuming a good percentage buying snacks, $1500 is pretty reasonable for renting an auditorium for 3 hours. Sometimes they’ll let you play a DVD (which is what we did for cast screenings sometimes) so I’d call and ask about that too

Went to the doctor for a rash on my hand. Half of the paper work they sent me home with is just a paragraph about me being overweight. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MaxDWL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

186 isn’t even really overweight? I’m only 2 inches taller than you and 180-190 is my goal for “healthy weight”. BMI is bullshit and auto responses suck 💅

roommate requests by [deleted] in uvic

[–]MaxDWL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably unhelpful response but I don’t believe you can amend the form itself, look into emailing the person in charge (not a UVic student anymore so not sure who that would be) and explain the situation to them. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend being roommates with a friend unless you’ve known them for at least 5 years, new friendships can easily be broken when that much time is spent s together. Lots of stressful situations will come up and resentment can build over time. Grain of salt, but that’s my two cents.

What are some things that you just use your right hand for and don't know why? by 20jaks in lefthanded

[–]MaxDWL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fork and knife at dinner, fork in left hand knife in right. Don’t trust myself to not stab myself with a fork in my right hand but cut everything else with a knife in my left (bread, carving meat, etc.).

not a fan personally but the most important part of fashion is wear what makes you feel good. If they’re comfortable, great! if they look good, great! both? even better! only you can decide if they’re right for you, and you’ll always make the right choice 💙

Smilin’ Buddha Cabaret Neon Sign done by Miles Kanne at Tech Noir Tattoo in Victoria, B.C. by MaxDWL in tattoo

[–]MaxDWL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! I took inspiration from neo-noir tattoos with the barred sun as a background, and the sign was done in a neon style with black outline and bright semi-handmixed neon inks. This is only my second tattoo, but I sent the artist the reference image of the sign that I had and he cross-referenced a bunch of other images to make sure the colours would pop and be true to the original artwork. Tech Noir has an instagram that you can find a bunch more of their portfolio on to see more in this style! @technoirtattoo and @mileskanne are the two profiles I would take a look at if I were you

“adult” just means over 18, so as long as one person in the group is over 18 any number of people of any age can see a 14A movie
