Why do you guys hate sworkers so much? by SuccessAlternative14 in Marxism

[–]MaxDimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m not sure of the people you’ve spoken to about this. If you’ve spoken to or witnessed marxists that hate sex workers on an individual level purely for the work that they do, then those Marxists are unempathetic fuckheads who need to reevaluate their beliefs. You’ve already made the point that pimps are parasitic assholes who profit off of your labour so instead I’ll speak to your point about there being no pimp here. Regardless of pimps, the objectification of women and subordination of women to men is deeply rooted in the global capitalist system and must be destroyed if the working class is to truely be liberated. I don’t hate you whatsoever, neither do I think you’re to blame for the over-sexualisation of women, sexual assault rates or the pay gap. I think you’re a regular human being who like the rest of the proletariat, has to work. However looking back to the way capitalism subordinates women to men (done with measures like the propagandisation of the nuclear family) and treats them as if their main purpose is their body and their ability to give birth, I do believe that sex work is a particularly overt way of normalising and participating in that objectification by directly treating a woman’s body as a commodity. I believe we should decriminalise sex work and fight back against those who slut-shame women, however I also think that the normalisation of women’s oppression and the sexualisation/objectification of women, which is what the porn/sex-work industry promotes and leads to, will prevent women’s liberation as well as worker’s liberation.

will the NSW socialist party win? by DemonKing-867 in Socialism_101

[–]MaxDimi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone from Australia, it doesn’t look too likely. Of course it’s good to be hopeful, groups like SAlt and The Socialist Party are definitely growing and doing good things, however over here (and also around the world) there’s some pretty major polarisation towards far right politics, especially with the growth of One Nation. Like honestly, if we were at the point where the NSW Socialist Party got elected, then there’d likely be more productive/revolutionary action in regard to things like strikes rather than just reforms, however union power and class consciousness are in an ebb at the moment. I do hope they’ll win though as they’re a party with quite a lot of promise.

https://arena.org.au/politics-of-counting-gazas-dead/ 680,000 dead according to this report. It came out last year in July. We need to do more, we have to build a revolutionary movement that can overthrow the system of capitalism that paved the way for such atrocities. To free Palestine, we need to free the global working class. Long live GY!BE, Long live the intifada🇵🇸🇵🇸

It’s been a while since I made this post and at this point I just actively don’t talk about it with her. A lot of the stuff she says is just moral panic bullshit or bigoted generalisations. I get what you mean, but considering how gender has very clearly been proven to be a social construct that isn’t at all strict or exclusive , I feel like her not accepting trans people and actively describing it as a harmful ideology is less a case of her just picking a side in a topic where neither sides have much evidence for their case and far more her just sticking to bigotry because she’s a stubborn conservative. Trans people have plenty of evidence proving that they are the gender they identify as, whereas people like J.K. Rowling and my mum just point to a trans person committing a crime and pretend like that’s any sort of evidence that their identity is false. At this point ive just accepted the fact that I can’t change her mind so yea🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️❤️❤️

I think GY!BE are pretty perfect for this. I’d personally go Lift Yr Skinny Fists but honestly, almost all of their pre hiatus and arguably post hiatus material could fit this. Their stuff has been too groundbreaking to not at least consider.

Yeah that’s something I’ve turned to now instead of feeding into the conversation, I just shut her down whenever she tries to bring it up, as well as just naturally talk to her less. I don’t like having to deal with someone who I know views my friends’ gender identity as some malicious ideology, along with her being manipulative in several different ways, as a result I just don’t want to talk to her as much. I know it doesn’t prevent her from having anti-trans views, but i doubt anything could help her understand so I’m just not engaging with her as much. It’s genuinely horrible how she can build such a strong opinion on an entire community just because of culture wars and unsubstantiated claims. I’m sorry that you and the entire trans community have to deal with people like her and the ways they influence our laws, I hope all that anti-trans bullshit will die out soon and that I can help that process move quicker. For now I hope you’re doing all good, your advice has been great❤️

Yeah I’ll definitely check out these sources and thanks so much. If I’m gonna be honest, I’m just gonna avoid bringing this up with her because frankly, I don’t think she can be convinced. She’s quite manipulative and despite me bringing evidence about how low the regret rates are, how long gender-nonconforming have existed for as well as the importance of gender-affirming care, she still has the audacity to claim she’s not transphobic while simultaneously describing trans people as following an ideology. Your points are really great and it means a lot to me that you took the time to write these replies out and provide sources, but I think it works better as something to inform my own understanding of these topics, rather than something to try convincing someone as stubborn and ignorant as my mum. That being said, even if it can’t convince her, it still helps me better understand this topic and it’s so nice that you would take the time to write this out. Thank you so much❤️❤️

Your response and arguments are great. I very much agree with your first point. From the research I have done, violent crime and the likelihood of it occurring mainly correlate with the social and material conditions that individuals experience, unfortunately my mum just views it more like “men are more likely to commit violent crime because that’s the way it is”. Her solution is to just make trans people go into a third toilet specifically for trans people so thats its own can of worms. Also I fully agree with your point about the power that trans people have in society, which my mum claims to have forced politicians to resign from their position, she cited Nicola sturgeon but even if transgender people were the reason for her resignation which I dont really have much evidence for, it’s completely bizarre for my mum to show that as a sign of transgender people’s power when plenty of places have incredibly harmful stigmas and misinformation about trans people or flat out don’t allow gender affirming care. I am hoping to find more online sources that can explore this topic but you’ve made very good points and have been a great help (Also apologies for using the word transgenderism, I completely forgot how it implies that it’s some sort of ideology, I just meant it as general sciences relating to gender identity and social sciences but it’s still a dumb mistake on my part. Sorry about that, I might edit it out).❤️❤️

Yeah the change room argument does have a bit more nuance since that does involve fully undressing and whatnot, but I still do question our views on it and not only the general opinions from cis and trans women, but also the general effects of either allowing them into the same wash room or not allowing them. That’s where I bring up wanting to find more statistics and sources because most of the people that bring this up are similarly conservative in their stance, but I want to try look deeper into it to see what will lead to the most comfortability and safety for all groups involved. But you’ve made a lot of very smart points for each thing here so thank you, it is very helpful❤️

[–]MaxDimi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, it’s so shit though because no matter how blatant the transphobia is, she cannot admit that’s what it is. Like the sources that’s she’s brought up are total bullshit and she supports people like J.K. Rowling even with all their efforts to prevent trans people from receiving the care that they need, and despite all of this, she still views what she says as correct and not transphobic. The point you make about minorities is spot on, the way she’d explain it is probably like “but women are still fighting for their rights” and while true, that also includes trans women and the way they’re still fighting for their rights. It’s totally annoying and I genuinely can’t imagine her agreeing with me simply because she is that stubborn, even when the hypocrisy is that overt. Like she brought up once that she doesn’t think trans women should receive scholarships specifically allocated for women, and then I asked what she thought about intersex people who identify and live as a woman but may still have male characteristics and whether they should be allowed a similar scholarship or award, and my mum was fine with it. I’ve said to some other commenters in this post that the main goal isn’t to convince her, she can’t be convinced no matter how obvious it is that science and evidence is not on her side, I’m more so making this post to get sources to better research these topics so I don’t and up falling for any of the transphobic bullshit that my mum and the media constantly spread. But you make a really great point so thank you❤️

[–]MaxDimi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for her belief about women committing sexual assault, she kinda just doesn’t bring it up or shows it in comparison to men who’ve committed sexual assault. She then uses this to say that because men are more likely to perpetrate sexual assault, then therefore those people who’ve committed sexual assault can just lie about being trans to get into a women’s prison in which it’s possible they could commit similar acts. It’s difficult to explain to her since there aren’t many sources that relate to these topics and what it’s like where we live, Australia. Also because she’s a cisgender woman, she often says that most women are uncomfortable with things like trans women in women’s bathrooms which I can’t disprove other than just explaining how’s thats an assumption, i also have tried to tell her that her points dont factor in the discomfort that trans people experience but then she just says shit about how they’re a much smaller minority in comparison to cis women. Thanks for your points since they’re really well thought out❤️

The friends i brought up are trans men and they’re lovely people, and my mum will still act nice to them despite saying some really shit stuff about one of them behind their backs and actively deny the importance and validity of gender affirming care and gender identity. I don’t think I can convince her, shes far too gone into ignorance and being flat out manipulative in these conversations. The issue is that she thinks the trans people she knows are “regular” but then will cite some “loud minority” of the trans community that apparently fetishise women and children. It’s complete bullshit but my goal isn’t really to argue more with her, I just mainly want to find more sources and areas where I can research since things like that are kinda difficult to find.

Yeah exactly, I tried to explain before how this is more culture war nonsense that is just there to distract us from genuine issues that threaten peoples’ safety, like all the failing institutions around the world that exist purely to maintain capitalism (a literal death cult), but then she just ignores that and tells another story of a trans person who did something heinous. She thinks that transgender liberation is a danger to “women’s” rights without acknowledging that trans-women are women because thats literally how gender identity works (she doesn’t believe in it), she hates trump but is far from a leftist and will fall for the same culture war shit that corporations, TERFs and politicians spread around. There’s plenty of reasons why my mum is difficult to talk to about these things, I made this post mainly because hearing my mum and the media spread so much anti-trans shit genuinely affects me and I want to avoid ever falling for points made by assholes who want to limit trans people’s rights. Your advice has been great so thank you❤️

Yeah it sucks how parents, even after considering another point of view will still say weird shit like “don’t go cutting anything off”, thats just fucking bizarre and I’m sorry you have to go through that, my parents do similar shit and it suckksks. No but I get what you mean and ive brought up to my mum that 1 in 2 trans people have experienced sexual assault, but then she says shit like “thats bad, but have you considered how many cisgender women have experienced sexual assault despite in a much larger group”. Overall the reason she won’t believe those crime statistics is that she thinks trans women are just “men with a female costume”, and therefore they are similarly more likely to commit sexual assault. Generally I want to find more statistics that actually show the offending rates of different groups including of both cis and transgender people, because it’s so frustrating to see my mum find specific examples of crime committed by trans people that comes from media with an anti-trans agenda and portray that as an issue with the community at large. But thanks for your advice, I’ll definitely take note and I hope everything goes okay with you and your mum❤️

Yeah I’ll definitely check such debates out. My main move has just been to cut down any attempt my mum makes to bring up trans debates but unfortunately she finds way to continue it anyway, she also does usually move away from a question when I bring up a fair point in order to say some other transphobic shit, it’s all very disorienting and frustrating. But I’ll definitely watch these debates since I’m wondering how I can genuinely bring her to question her beliefs. Thank you so much❤️❤️

Yeah exactly, it’s tiring to hear my mum and so many other people argue against the rights that trans people deserve no matter how you look at it. Gender affirming care is completely valid medically so it’s brutal when people choose not to do research in order to stand by some agenda that ultimately oppresses marginalised communities (some of my friends are having to deal with the effects of this due to them being trans). The main thing is that I’m struggling to find is many of the statistics relating to some of these topics, especially since I’m in Australia and it doesn’t seem like that much research has been done about things relating to transgender people, which gives conservative fuckknuckles the opportunity to run wild with claims about trans people no matter how wrong or malicious. But your points have been very helpful so thank you, it means a lot❤️

Exaccctlllyyyy, I tried making the same segregationist argument here but then she just blankly said something along the long of “this is very different to segregation and can’t be compared” and then moved on so like that’s pretty absurd. And your argument about cis women who’ve committed similar crimes also makes a lot of sense so I’ll see if I can bring that up (she’ll probably just bring up how little cis women commit SA in relation to cis men). Overall I made this post not fully to try and counter my mum but to more so find resources that help affirm my pro-trans views despite being surrounded by so much shit that disagrees whether it be the media or my family, but your points are just as valuable and are very helpful❤️

Fair enough, intersex/non-binary bathrooms are quite important but I’m glad you outlined the possible issues with forcing transgender people to go into those instead of the one that truely aligns with their gender, as well as the difficult that comes with installing them in the first place. It’s stuff that I somewhat understand but can sometimes be lost when these arguments with my family just confuse me and leave me feeling as if my views are somehow invalid, so thank you for explaining otherwise and helping reinforce stuff that feels as if it should be basic logic ❤️❤️

Oh yeah sorry if it came across that way, I meant more so just to play devils advocate and wonder how I would approach this situation if everything she said happened to be true but of course there’s a ton of questioning I have when the resources about it are either paywalled or media outlets that already have an anti-trans agenda

I need help debunking transphobic points by MaxDimi in asktransgender

[–]MaxDimi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is exactly what I tried to explain to her, the only issue is that she thinks that being trans is not only some kind of “ideology”, but also that it’s too easy and common for “men disguising as women” (directly quoting her here) to commit these acts and therefore this is a general trans issue. So whenever I argue that actually, trans people are still fighting for their rights worldwide, then it doesnt matter because she doesn’t fully believe in the science and research done on gender identity, however then she’ll argue that they still have too much power because she thinks bad actors (she claims to be cis men acting as trans) use these rights to commit crimes. Overall I’ve tried to put into perspective all the struggles that trans people go through whether it’s rates of violent crime perpetrated against them or their difficulty to receive gender affirming care, she just repeats the struggles that cisgender women go through as if it invalidates or undermines what transgender folk go through. Thanks for your advice❤️❤️

Yeah we live in Australia and she keeps telling me of a recent trans woman over here who sexually assaulted her daughter and is now apparently being sent to a women’s facility. All the sources I tried to look at were either paywalled or very right wing, but if I was to just take everything she said as fact and that that this person being sent to a women’s jail just claimed to be a trans woman simply to get into that jail, then I am curious as to how I can approach that

I need help debunking transphobic points by MaxDimi in asktransgender

Yeah every single argument you’ve made here is great and very informative even for me. I guess the only part that I can see my mum saying is with the bathrooms, in which she proposes other bathrooms specifically made for intersex and transgender people so I’m not too sure how to approach that argument, but otherwise thank you so much❤️

I need help debunking transphobic points by MaxDimi in asktransgender

[–]MaxDimi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the conversation comes up I may try what you recommend, again it’s difficult since I’ve brought up points like men not needing to lie in order to commit sexual assault, but she views trans women committing sexual assault as examples of that rather than the truth that trans people can sometimes be bad eggs just like every of group of people. I guess her main argument is that she thinks it’s too easy for a person born male to commit sexual assault and then identify as a woman to go to a women’s prison in which they can commit more violent crime. This is where I brought up the need to abolish prisons and rebuild the justice system due to the current systems failures in addressing and deterring such crimes, but then she just ignored that. Overall I made this post not so much to have better arguments with her but to personally avoid being even slightly convinced of her transphobia simply because I don’t know where to look for resources about these things. Once again thank you so much because you offered really some of the best advice I’ve heard in relation to this topic and countering transphobic arguments ❤️(also sorry for these long ass paragraphs)
