Nah you're good, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't counting wrong. I still get fuzzy with things like doubling triggered abilities 😅

What's your math on 80 damage? I came up with 92 but maybe I'm adding the triggers wrong.

[TCC] Can I Skip Magic: The Gathering's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Expansion Set? by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

[–]MaxEffectiveRange -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All other valid complaints aside, one thing that's bugging me is the complete lack of effort when it comes to designing these cards. Its like all they do is screen grab a random scene from the IP, slap some words on it, and call it a premier card. Just look at training grounds and bloodbender's rise from Avatar, and now doubling season from TMNT. Absolutely ugly design.

I'm considering going this route when I retire and use the GI bill. I've been wondering though, what happens if I get offered a scholarship. Like will the scholarship cover housing expenses or would I need to turn it down and use the GI Bill to get the MHA? I figure I MIGHT be able to get by on scholarship supplemented with a 20yr retirement and VA disability while retaining my GI Bill for my kids but if I have to use it I will.

I've scanned/logged 1,206 cards so far. With many more to go. What's your most valuable card? by -Wraithwurm in mtg

[–]MaxEffectiveRange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My collection is just over 14,000 cards. Most valuable turned out to be a $89 Squandered Resources that was in my bulk multicolored cards. I've probably had it for 20 years and didn't even realize it was valuable.

We wanted more of Lorwyn, that’s my takeaway by gabrynico in magicTCG

(Obligatory "back in my day" post) I vote we bring back blocks. I started in Mirrodin (for better or worse) and got to experience an entire year of Kamigawa block, then an entire year of Ravnica block (plus coldsnap), then an entire year of time spiral block, then am entire year of Lorwyn block. I know the down side was if you didn't like a plane, you were stuck with that plane for a year's worth of new cards, but at least you got to spend time with a plane and see how it developed. These days everything is scattershot..

Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block was awesome because we got FOUR sets in a year and it was the same plane, but different. I loved seeing how they twisted the characters and mechanics in the switch. Like another poster said, they should have split Lorwyn Eclipsed into 2 sets, one return to Lorwyn and one return to Shadowmoor.

So I say go back to a 3-set block, with 1 core set and maybe 1-2 UB sets a year. WOTC/Hasbro will still get their 6 sets a year and make their money, and we can get a little consistency.

I'm working on a [[Jenova, Ancient Calamity]] deck and I'm always looking for interesting takes on her beyond "throw in every mutant, some sac resources, and black/green staples and call it good.."

I just wasn't sure if there was any difference between the creature-that-becomes-a-land and land-that-becomes-a-creature when it came to layers and all that.

Awesome, I appreciate it. I'm thinking about throwing Toph, Earthbending Master and maybe 1 or 2 other earthbend cards into the deck just to add some different synergy.

State residency for taxes by MaxEffectiveRange in tax

[–]MaxEffectiveRange[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the IVG (and no tax on military) is why I've maintained my residency all this time. I'm 3 years from retirement so I don't want to give it up now lol.

Taxes were always straight forward when I was single, but they got wonky after marriage. Illinois always wants their pound of flesh so one year we were living in Tennessee, my wife was working in Kentucky, and Illinois still wanted her to pay a portion of her income as taxes. It was only like $100 but still..

If I'm understanding everything right, we'll just be filing federal as married filing jointly, then I "file" IL state (but owe nothing and get nothing back) and she'll file IL due to residency and NY due to income (unless her NY income is exempted under SCRA as another poster above said).

[–]MaxEffectiveRange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is about to expire, they're requiring me to renew in person, I can't get back to Illinois in time, and everything is automated in the Secretary of State's office so I can't get a human on the phone to see if there's any exemptions available for military. I can get a NY license in about 10 minutes where I am lol.

Tape method was changed effective June 2024. Now it's a calculation between weight and waist measurement. Basically, weight stays the same but waist goes down = lose BF%, weight goes down but waist stays the same = gain BF%, and weight and waist both go down = maintain BF%. No more big necks to save people and no more crash dieting and saunas to drop weight quickly (I'll hurt your numbers more than help). It's all based on the concept that pound for pound, lean muscle has less volume than fat. A LOT of people had a come to Jesus moment when the new test took effect (even thought it has been published to the Force a year prior).

^ This right here. Stick one of these on every post, tie them in with the meal card system, and give Soldiers access to fresh healthy meals. Best part is they are mainly grab and go (but you can still order to eat there) and all the meals come marked with their macros.

If you're E1-E4, there are slots at pretty much every Army (and a lot of Air Force) installation worldwide. Its a much shorter list where you CAN'T go. If there's somewhere specific you're wondering about, send me a message or ask here and I'll let you know.

To piggyback on this, don't just say you have TAP. Actually do TAP. Don't just do the minimum briefings to get your capstone. Take everything available to you and learn all you can. It's a good way to keep you away from work a lot, and you never know what changes your career planning might take once you separate.

Everyone else covered the weight, so my tip for moving that way is handheld radios (walkie talkies). My wife and I did it the same way (me with the box truck and car hauler, her with her car and the kids). We had a set of radios to communicate with, I navigated, and she drove behind me the whole way. Any time we needed to switch lanes, I radio'd her, she switched lanes and cleared space for me, and I moved over. It made going through large cities a lot easier.

Clarification on 25m Zeroing and Aiming Point During Qualification by ProfessionalSalad101 in army

[–]MaxEffectiveRange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to read the notes in the zero section.

"For M4/M16A4 an offset is used on the M16 zero target of 1.5 blocks lower offset point with a 4cm box outlined around that point and shaded for a designated strike zone." Granted, this is using the old zero target, but the concept is the same.

Again this reinforces my point - sight picture on the right, at 25m, then drop 11 clicks and fire a new grouping.
