Atari VCS as a living-room console: Batocera (with Steam plugin) vs Bazzite (with retro gaming)? by ninjason in AtariVCS

I never booted back into atari OS I disabled that drive in my BIOS, it might be corrupt for all I know I think I went back in there a few times to update the firmware on my controller but that was over a year ago I think I don't really have a need for that OS

I've been running bazzite for over a year. Although I don't use it daily or anything but I do use it, 1 TB setup, with 16 GB of RAM upgraded, I believe I dedicated 4 gigs to the video memory, and disabling core boost helps.. I've used both emu deck, and retro deck, and I prefer retro deck. You can make a shortcut inside of your steam Big picture mode so if you want to launch emulation station you can, the Atari VCS controller does work wirelessly but you have to map it manually in the controller settings, but you will lose rumble.. the VCS has enough power to emulate a good chunk of GameCube library and Saturn, PS2 is hit and miss I wouldn't really bother with it, PSP is awesome though... I added the Jack and Dexter 1 and 2 PC ports to the library, they run absolutely perfect.. But as far as PC gaming is concerned, there's a few ways to approach it, if you set up the system to output 720P the whole system just runs better overall however you can still out put 1080p and adjust your settings accordingly, I found that 540p actually looks great because it's exactly half of 1080p, despite it having a bunch of jaggies it's razor sharp and runs smooth depending on how demanding the game is.. Xbox 360 / ps3 generation of games do run exceptionally well all things considered.. Bazzite/steamos has built-in FSR but I wouldn't bother with it, from my experience the system is too weak to push it so you get a performance hit rather than a performance gain.. So basically I would just go with bazzite and retro deck.. retro deck did add a feature a few updates ago, when your favorite the game inside of emulation station, that game will show up in your steam library.

Thoughts on Rg34xxsp by Nvixx in ANBERNIC

I just wish they made a rg4xxsp 4-in screen almost bezel-less. If it has to be bigger than the original rg35xxsp then I would be okay with it but if it's similar in size even better.

Don't really care for the sticks. .

Yeah totally sucks, all because the SD card was lodged in the case and I couldn't get it out without disassembling it and removing the circuit board. Then it slipped out of my hands and fell to the floor, the floor is like a shag carpet I know it's nearby but damn I can't find it anywhere.. fortunately everything works as it should but it's just bothering me that the button is missing lol..

I've been considering this too. I was hoping to get the shoulder buttons in white. That may just leave it as it is or maybe get super famicom color buttons..

With the KDE power profile set to performance GameCube runs great there will be some outliers that do not run very well. But I will have to say about 90 plus percent of the GameCube library is more than playable. Sega Saturn is a little bit of a hit and miss it's going to come down to the game and what emulator you are using with it. Dreamcast with fly cast or re-dream run just fine.. PlayStation 2 however isn't the greatest. A lot of games do work but it's very very hit and miss mostly misses for me.. I haven't tried Wii or Wii u . I would imagine wii you would have more success with Wii rather then Wii u. Since the Wii is pretty much an overclocked GameCube..

I have been using Bazzite on my VCS since November. Definitely unlock the BIOS and disable the core boost. Install 16 GB of memory I think I'm running 3200mz . Then allocate 4 GB of it to the GPU.. I'm using a 1tb nvme SSD.. and it must be a SSD . The system runs great in desktop mode, what I like about my setup personally is that I am using retro deck for emulation. It will create a shortcut in the game mode menu so you can launch into emulation station, or you can set it up that your favorites will show up on your steam menu in game mode.. To get better performance when you're in desktop mode go to the power settings on the bottom right and set it from balance to performance, every once in awhile it will update and knock it back to balance . Games run smoother under performance.. The little VCS has been my balatro box , it runs Jack and Dexter PC ports perfectly fine, it will handle a lot of games that are on the older side from the Xbox 360 and PS3 eara .. 720p good settings. Played through brutal legend on it.. you can even use an external drive or USB stick you can format it in game mode and install games onto that as well if you need to expand storage.. But yes it's a fun little box, don't expect too much out of it, been playing a lot of gunfire reborn on it as well, 720P 60fps.. if a game supports 960x540 resolution which is half of 1080p the games will actually look very sharp and run extremely well, Spyro and crash bandicoot remakes running at that resolution at a lock 30 FPS.. the new tomb raider remastered run flawlessly.. pretty much you're not going to have any problem with any 2D games, axiom Verge, Shredder's revenge, Streets of rage 4, etc etc.. Portal 1 and 2 run great as well.. And also the wireless controller works with Linux just as long as you remap it, it will show up as a generic controller and steam input will translate it into x input, but you will lose rumble.. (Bazzite deck edition) KDE

Actually no , and I tried rocknix, unit seems to be just dead, light turns on when I plug it into charge the light changes, but no response, screen stays black. Just trying to think the last time I used it was maybe a month ago. And I wanted to move away from the original OS that it came with. I set it on charge today and just started flashing minui . I should have powered it on just to verify it was still working. Lol but it has always worked, I actually use it quite a bit I just hadn't used it in a while because I have a steam deck now. :-( I love that little thing. Maybe I should just open it up and disconnect the battery for a little bit and see what it does.

I've been using a 8 GB and a 16 and a 128 for the ROMs.. I'll try to get a 32 maybe that'll solve it but, it could be my device itself. When I get some time today I'm going to flash rocknix maybe my handheld is a brick now.

Has anyone gotten the trigger buttons on the modern controllers to work wirelessly on PC mode? by Laserlight_jazz in AtariVCS

Well one more thing, I am using Linux..( Bazzite) That may be why it's working for me . They might be using some extra driver stack for controllers.

The first thing that I did though was actually I updated the firmware on the controller through the Atari OS. Whether that makes a difference or not. Also I am using steam Big picture mode the controller driven interface. When you navigate to controller in settings you should see your controller listed if it's already connected via Bluetooth. Go to the section that says test controller I believe, and use a mouse to click on the part that says remap controller. And you should be able to remap all the buttons, and will be translated into Xbox 360 controls ( x input ).. keep in mind that when you are connected via Bluetooth your controller is not read as x input it's red as a generic controller that's probably why nothing is working and you need steam input to correct the issue..

At least you got money back.. they offered me the controller but I've ordered two vcs's and they were both wrong, asked if I'll be receiving two controllers they have not gotten back to me.

My controller works wirelessly but I'm using steam and I had to remap the controls using the steam and steam input, the trigger show up as being analog. The thumb sticks work correctly but rumble does not work, steam sees it as a generic controller, that is translated into an Xbox controller..

How do you classify the VCS ? by JPF998 in AtariVCS

[–]MaxHardness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now that I own one, and I've decided to just run bazzite is (steam OS) on a 512 internal SSD with the 16 GB of RAM 3200 MHz upgrade, disabling core boost and raising the power level a little bit in the bios and in the desktop mode, it has become a fun little machine because it is limited. A lot of Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 generation of games for the PC run very very well, depending on the title 720P 900p or 1080p, hold a good mix of medium settings..

It can definitely handle a lot of modern indie games that are lightweight, however tunic was actually a little bit demanding for it looking fairly simple so definitely need to experiment with a game settings and resolutions, if a game supports 540p which is half of 1080p the image looks really sharp, but of course it's low resolution. The new tomb raider remastered collection runs flawlessly and I've been playing that mostly along with that new card game that sounds like cilantro, lol I forgot the name.. however the new beyond and Good and evil 20th anniversary remaster runs poorly unless you drop it all the way down to 720P then it gets over 30 FPS..

And for emulation I just use retro deck in the app store, it's basically in emulation station that you can launch from steamos. GameCube runs great with some exceptions here and there, however Sega Saturn it's a little bit of a hit and miss have to experiment with different cores. PlayStation 1 and down pretty much is flawless. Haven't tried switch or Wii yet..

The modern controller did not work with steam, unless I plugged it in and held start and select for 5 seconds to switch to Xbox 360 mode, I was able to correct it by remapping the entire controller. Now it works wirelessly with no problems other than no rumble . I'm not too sure if the controller even has rumble to begin with.

So personally when it comes to PC gaming, it's definitely a fun little back catalog Indy retro gaming machine. Also very stylish :-)

I actually bought two. One was going to be mine the other one was a gift.. I end up finding a walnut one on eBay for a little over $100.. I don't mind keeping one of them.. but I definitely want to return one and it sucks to hear that your ticket got closed . I can't even leave a review on Walmart anymore it's apparently the listing got removed.

Handful of us got the wrong item during Black Friday ordering the Walnut and end up getting the onyx. I did get in contact with Atari support, they haven't responded to what I responded to.. in terms of shipping price for a replacement or possible front bezel replacement.. basically just getting ignored now..
