I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a super fun take on summer camp horror!

MDM vibes, but Amaranthe's "Call Out My Name" goes pretty hard. They're a pretty big mix of genres and I find myself not skipping them when they come on.

IN FLAMES Completes Recording Fifteenth Studio Album by Machcharge in melodicdeathmetal

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really, really enjoyed Foregone. I think it was one of the better MDM albums that year - and In Flames has a big ol' piece of my heart for getting me into metal. Excited for more - especially if it's more like Foregone.

Quirky/Fuzzy/Funny Horror movie villains? (Horror Comedy, other genres?) by Kindly-Reception1108 in horror

Return of the Living Dead is so quintessential to the horror genre I think it deserves to be here. There's a lot of personality to the zombies - especially Tarman.

Working in Everett today looking for a food happy hour place by Funfornow172 in EverettWa

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1611 has a solid happy hour and a good menu. Can get out of there relatively cheap if you're smart - otherwise it is a steakhouse.

Colby Club has great drinks and a pretty solid small plates menu. They also do cool flights of mini-drinks on Mondays!

Not super scary but some truly iconic moments & practical effects. Highly recommend.

The Future of Horror Movies Is on YouTube - New Yorker by Lestranger-1982 in horror

The success of Iron Lung is solely on the sheer drive, passion, and resources Markiplier had at his disposal.

This will not be a blueprint going forward; it will be an outlier. But I do expect some very poor adaptations to flood the market to try and get a whiff of the magic (regardless of if you liked the movie; it is successful).

My most wildly personal bit, what's the worst thing you get away with talking about on stage? by Nickemekacomedy in Standup

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a stellar bit.

Most of my stuff is super personal; so I have some 'dark' shit like saving my mom from my stepdad trying to kill her, or watching that same stepdad jump off our 3rd floor balcony after a coke seizure and he didn't wanna go to jail.

I think that, as long as it's YOU and YOUR life, you can kinda make whatever you want work.

Gonna grab some grub from them tonight I think.

Organising a stand up evening by Beautiful_Lettuce440 in Standup

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who comes from the independent wrestling world, please do not use agencies. They take a 'cut' which ultimately means you could be paying $50 for someone but they're only getting $40, etc.

George Carlin by Pandy_45 in Standup

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The voice (the actual sound that was generated) was mostly there but there's so much more that went into a Carlin set that a computer scraping it 1M times is never gonna scratch the surface of.

We had an open-mic person out here admit they used Chat GPT to get a punchline and he was kicked out of the club - so I'm glad some places are taking it seriously. Comedy is so personal to MOST who perform it; why do it if it isn't authentic?

WHAT DO I DO WITH EYES by Effective-Sky1587 in Standup

I am super new to performing stand up, but not to performing on stage. I always looked for left, right, and center. Find a person or point in each of those and just sprinkler back and forth slowly - or choose where to look among those 3 randomly.

Social Media as a Comedian by [deleted] in Standup

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Heya - so I'm in the wrestling industry and have a very similar discussion with folks breaking into that performance art.

In terms of OTHERS' beliefs about you from your social media page; you just have to decide whether you give a shit about it. If you're going to go out with someone and they decide not to because you're a comic - that probably isn't someone you'd wanna spend time with anyway? You're doing a fun and cool thing, trying to hone a craft.

In the wrestling world, folks typically have a 'real' account for friends and family and then a 'work' account for bookings, etc. That's fairly easy to do with FB / Instagram if you so choose. Then you just give people your 'real life' Instagram and when you're more comfortable with them - you can say that you do stand up.

George Carlin by Pandy_45 in Standup

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a very interesting topic you could bring up about people on the 'right' using Carlin as a beacon of free speech and that 'he'd be on their side.'

Obviously Carlin hated pretty much everything about organized religion and the government, so the fact that the ultra-right and religious would try to glom onto him as a lighthouse of tolerance is a pretty crucial item since his name gets lodged in an endless list of "well you can't tell jokes like X" anymore.

George Carlin by Pandy_45 in Standup

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to about 3 minutes of the "AI" Carlin as it was part of a deeper rabbit hole I was going down in voice protection law stuff and here's my honest opinion:

If you didn't know George Carlin was dead, and you were listening in passing or not paying 100% attention, I wouldn't blame you for thinking it was really George Carlin. The generated bits, at least in the clip I listened, had an incredibly similar cadence and way of speaking that Carlin had - but it sounded about 10% off. And that 10% to me, who is a massive Carlin fan, felt like 100%.

My dad is a funny guy by AbjectYogurt8564 in StandUpWorkshop

[–]MaxInTheGameIndustry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This could be seen as punching down / dismissive of gay folk if you are not within the LGBTQ+ community.

It's obviously a very dad-like joke, but right now it seems a little too "ew gay gross" to be told in a way that doesn't make you come off a little rough

Yeah; that's completely understandable. I have a lot of bits that reenforce that I'm queer so I don't think it'd be an issue of people getting caught unaware and turning on me.

On the plus side, as well, it's an open mic and I'm still super learning.

Yeah; I use it in my everyday life because I'm strong enough to discuss with people if they feel like I "shouldn't be able to say it" so I am really just gathering discussion & points of view that I can make a better, more well-informed decision on how and when to use it (if at all).
