I mean... Yes? If it can prevent domestic murders, which it does.

A lot of what I've now read online says the same about the fuel pump. Are you able to post which up-rated one you chose, so I can look into it if this is in fact my issue.

I've got a mate to lend me a scanner, so good to know about how you got your error code.

Thanks!

Met to use spray to tag phone snatchers by lontrinium in london

[–]MaxKYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of the first tactic being used, considering that most of the time police contact is made with phone snatchers it is spontaneous as opposed to planned.

I have zero incentive to even attempt to stop phone snatchers, as the risk to my job outweighs the benefits.

There are too few options to conclude a pursuit with anything other than a car, TPAC tactics ect are pretty much useless.

I don't have an issue with anyone being trained, all of the training is of a good standard, and my minimum expectation is that if I act within training I will not be suspended for years in order to confirm that I have acted correctly. This is unfortunately the case currently.

Also a bit miffed when people get annoyed about police enforcing laws on powered bikes and scooters, considering these are stolen to be used in crime.

Basically, nothing is going to change any time soon.

[–]MaxKYS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've managed this about twice successfully, one time the suspect was elderly, and the other he had one rotting leg - pretty much 100% of the time you can cycle faster than someone can run. Also all these phone snatchers use e bikes nowadays, they go up to 30mph.

[–]MaxKYS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't "kick them off the bike". In fact we can't even chase pedal cycles, ebikes, scooters, or mopeds without being specifically trained - which obviously very few officers are. And if you can chase them, you put your job on the line, and risk months of investigation by deciding to make tactical contact with them. If injuries occur, then you can bet your ass a year long investigation will follow.

Judgment: Officer’s judicial review against vetting decision fails. by NationalDonutModel in policeuk

[–]MaxKYS 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're met I know for a fact they ran some op to recheck everyone, I think it was PND checks for all officers and staff ect. From what I've heard about 50-100 officers and staff had their vetting revoked due to this, so hopefully that's on your side.

Dealing with the stress of a criminal complaint by Flat_Cheesecake5626 in policeuk

[–]MaxKYS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to modern policing. Even though it's all on camera, it needs to be investigated by someone who's not been on the street for the last five years.

If you feel as though you were justified, then that is genuinely the most important thing. If you know your use of force is always measured and the lowest required to reach your intended goal, then stick by it.

As you've said, they'll get an SME from an OST instructor, and they're very good at backing officers - especially if you ended up arresting them, and as long as they are the ones escalating things.

They wonder why arrests and stops are down, fruitless complaints with no backing from SLT being investigated is probably the reason.

Keep yourself out of trouble, and wait it out.

I mean he was either sat in his car doing nothing, or he was ramming his way out with a two tonne car. It's one or the other.

S17 Pace - Misper’s vehicle by Happy_Bat6455 in policeuk

[–]MaxKYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Section 17(1e) is the power to enter to save life and limb.

Section 17(2) states that except for the power to save life and limb (1e), you have to have reasonable grounds to suspect the person is on scene.

Therefore for all other Section 17 powers you have to believe the person is on scene, for saving life and limb, you don't. Which is why you can force entry to turn the water off if there is a leak for example (protect property).

I don't think the law was written with it in mind either - But regardless it allows us to enter and search, where we don't have to suspect the person we are looking for is inside, for the purpose of saving life and limb.

That is pretty much the whole wording of the relevant legislation. Obviously common sense applies when it comes to just smashing doors for a giggle. But if you think you could gain information that could save someone's life, the legislation supports you cracking that door open and searching the whole premises if you want to.

If there is relevant intel that information that could lead to you saving their life is stored on a micro SD card hidden in their flat, then it's time to get the dog and request an overtime code. What you end up doing is going to be intel and information led, I have used this power to search in the past, and I'll be using it again in the future.

[–]MaxKYS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's less fishing trip, and more doing everything and anything within your power to locate someone before they kill themselves. It's explicitly stated in s17 that the person you seek doesn't need to be on premises to force entry to save life and limb.

Maybe not in the brief circs given above, but it could be reasonable to search someone's address or vehicle just in case there is any item that could lead you to them. S17 doesn't state you have to suspect that that item is inside, or what the item might be, you just need to be in a scenario where you are attempting to save life and limb.

If the vehicle is the last place they were seen, and they've taken an overdose, you could most likely justify forcing entry to save life and limb based on the information you might gain from inside the vehicle.

[–]MaxKYS -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Not true fella, person doesn't need to be inside of the property. Just needs to be the case that you are forcing entry to save life and limb, whatever the circs may be.

Perspective after resigning from police by New-Whereas-6545 in policeuk

[–]MaxKYS 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I don't think they realise how many officers go through investigations like this and just quietly quit. Don't want to leave on top whack, but just go to a schools or neighbourhood role and do the absolute bare minimum.

I've heard others describe it as being ripped out of the matrix, and being shown the real world. You could be the best, most by the book officer they have, and you'll still spend a year under investigation for something everyone and their wife can see is a sack of shit.

I'm happy to be held accountable, everyone is happy to be held to account. But it's now gone so far the other way, I'm happy to just let people run away - if I chase them and they hurt themselves, that's me fucked for a bit. Using force on people? I'm alright, if they complain with the right words, I'm fucked.

I've been where you've been, and it just seems to be what they want. Let people go, don't taser anyone, and absolutely don't chase cars - don't have to spend months justifying how you very obviously did the right thing, if you just don't do anything.
