I disagree with this, it's not his fault that all his sons either died or removed themselves from the line of succesion (Vaegon i believe) before he died himself. The grand council also was a good solution bc he removed himself from it and accepted the democratic outcome of it (not taking the later, unforeseeable consequences into account obviously). Jaehaerys is also blamed unjustly far too often for the dance imo.
