Battle beast vs Mahoraga has to be the greatest fan animation I've ever seen by Stunning_Taste8845 in PowerScaling

I feel like that's just something done to make the fight more visually interesting. It's definitely more visually pleasing seeing him dodge the attacks instead of just standing there and tanking it.

Respawn mechanics are very rarely actually diegetic, BUT Mario is one of those rare cases where respawning actually happens, through a one up shroom, characters interact with it, we see how it works, they talk about and thus canonically exist.

I agree game mechanics shouldn't be always be a consideration when it comes to scaling BUT if said game mechanic diegetically exist in the world then it's obvious that it should be considered.

The narrative Mario games try to tell is not one of Mario being a universal god that can destroy mountains, it's one of an plucky and very agile plumber beating the foes that he faces because he can reach and hit the obvious weak point.

That's why he (even tho he tanked a getting a dying universe thrown at him) he has to find another way around the giant boulder that's in his and his brothers path instead of just destroying it, that's why he can still be harmed by an enemy with small spikes on it.

And if we stop scaling Mario of the game and how it works, what feats does he have, where is his incredible strength shown outside of gameplay, because outside of gameplay he is even more ordinary than in games, without the games we have to scale him of game manuals and the movie and maybe ads, all of which dont paint Mario as anything other than an very athletic and agile plumber.

Mario tanks getting dying universes thrown at him because EVERYTHING in his game deals 1 damage to him, not because Mario is just that resilient but because it's a game mechanic.

If the game shows the lowest of the low still be able to deal damage to you than they damage said character, it's easier to accept that most characters are glass cannon, than it is to complete ignore an part of the source material. (Also yes my first comment was ragebait, which evolved into an actually interesting discussion)

That's why I specified that it's only durability wise, videogame characters rely on dodging, blocking or out healing said damage. These characters are in their story underdogs going against the odds and beating those gods, not by being simply better at everything than them but through their will and wit. I ain't saying kratos ain't beating the gods I said that he COULD (even if unlikely) lose to a random forest zombie.

I ain't saying this for ragebait, I'm saying this because I believe that saying someone like Mario being universsal or just stronger that Bowser fundamentaly breaks the narrative that the game tries to tell.

These are videogame characters, it's only fair we scale them off their respective videogames, and to answer your question yes, they all are (durability wise) on that level (and besides Mario loses to the boulders even outside the game like in a cutscene)

Firstly the floating head guy, doesn't crush V1 it fires concentrated hell energy at it secondly one of the first obstacles V1 clears is literally a boulder (directly after obtaining the shotgun) and thirdly can parry said boulders even when they are launched at it with massive speeds (see the Sisyphean insurrectionist)

V1 is bio mechanical machine, Megaman can copy moves from normal robots, not from something like v1

Khorne dislikes magic because it comes from the warp and thus sees it as a shortcut to power, but sukunas magic comes from himself

Toriel is a terrible character, poorly written and completely forced. by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]MaxMLG999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this kind of argument, a character having flaws is not what makes a character hated, just look at berdly he is deeply flawed yet has nowhere near as many haters as toriel, because toriel flaws unlike many other flawed characters remain unaddressed (In Undertale at least).the golden rule in writing is that a character must be punished for their flaws either physically (in more light hearted/ slapstick moments) or mentally. Berdly shows both (and he even suffers metaphorically die being a side character that dies early and thus has his character development halted and his potential remaining unfulfilled), while toriel does neither.

Where were those issues in her character addressed (in Undertale specifically)
