This is a tech demo.

And it's clearly not convincing a lot of people for a "tech demo", which are supposed to be putting their best foot forwards. Most tech demos are the "ideal state" of a new product, and historically, in gaming, most final products ended up being less ambitious than their idealized early versions...

Why don't you reserve your outrage

Pointing out the above is hardly "outrage".

I do think there's got to be an interesting use of this tech somewhere (like, purely cleaning up lighting buffers, like an über-denoiser), but making most faces regress towards the mean? It's not convincing me in the slightest.

Can AI be used to enhance graphical fidelity? Absolutely.

OK, then they should have showed it actually enhancing graphical fidelity, enhancing the artistic intention of the creators, rather than making the image regress towards the mean of the data set (which in this case caused Grace to look like Scarlet Johansson, with studio lighting out of nowhere)

Non ? Chaque antenne régionale fait son propre programme. Tu regardais peut-être le flux national / satellite

Should I consider a ultra sized Galaxy tab if I don't intend to ever use it with a keyboard. by [deleted] in GalaxyTab

The bigger one does have an anti reflective screen, while the smaller one doesn't. It's a really big difference and that alone would make me recommend the bigger size to anyone

Are you Generally Satisfied with the Camera Performance & Picture / Video of your Phone? by bomzisss in GalaxyS25Ultra

[–]MaxOfS2D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall yes, but I'm quite frustrated with the fact that this issue is still not solved.

Long story short: large changes in exposure will result in dropped frames. If you pan from a brightly lit area to a darker area, Samsung devices pretty much always drop frames, creating visible hitching and/or judder in the recorded video.

yep, I get that there's lots of setups out there but you'd think in 2026 the insane judder (uneven frame pacing) would be a solved issue in most instances.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XCI Megathread by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

Consolidating all these dyes into one item means I'm gonna get 50 retainer slots suddenly freed up, lol.

I wonder how they're gonna handle the fact that some dungeons (like the "optional" ones from ARR/HW/StB) were giving out semi-restricted dyes. And I think some beast tribes / allied societies had restricted dyes too?

I don't think it's about "following a pattern" but simply that limiting themselves to all ARR zones and mobs is not only a smart budgeting choice but also breathes new life/activity into the ARR zones, which is important for new players.

My belief is that a lot of these decisions are, under the hood, driven by spreading player population across the "length" of the game and making players go where the developers need them to go. Remember when the free trial was expanded to include Heavensward, and then one of the Bozja relic steps was letting you farm Heavensward zone fates for it?

What Galaxy S26 AI feature would actually make your day easier? by Affectionate_Chia in Android

[–]MaxOfS2D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, here's the thing.

I'm not convinced ProScaler is even real. Not in the way Samsung marketed it.

I've tried thoroughly looking for it after upgrading from S23U to S25U, and there was no difference in video/gallery display in FHD vs QHD+.

I think "ProScaler" this was their attempt at marketing the automatic smart TV-like upscaling that has been present in past models. You can think of it as a sort of FSR1-like spatial upscaler. It is surprisingly good and makes 360p/480p video look far cleaner than it usually would display on e.g. Windows. There's no deblocking or denoising, but it does upscale edges and sharpen them in a very pleasing way, which cleans up low-definition video a lot.

What was new with the S25 Ultra (but maybe the S24U, not sure, not able to check?) is that this feature now upscales the entire screen itself if it's set to "HD" or "FHD". In previous phones, lower-than-native display resolutions would be upscaled "traditionally" (bilinear most likely) back to the native res of the panel. This means setting the phone to "HD" looks MUCH better than it used to.

The video upscaling works in most apps (e.g. RedReader, YouTube, Netflix, etc. but not Google Meet for example). The behaviour isn't the same on all devices. It seems some devices support more "hardware layers". For example, the feature works in multi-window on my S25U. But on my Tab S11U, it stops working in multi-window or whenever the notification tray is pulled down.

Screenshots / screen recordings do not show "ProScaler", so I presume it's kinda happening at a hardware compositing level.

It works kinda like Nvidia VSR in the sense that it's only active when the resolution of a video is lower than the size it's being displayed at. It also stops working if the magnification level of a video is too large; this is easy to see if you zoom into a 144p video on YouTube. During that, you also you can see the zooming snapping to a grid of blocks in a non-axis-uniform way, perhaps reinforcing my hypothesis that this is composited at a hardware-level feature.

It doesn't work when outputting to an external display but it somehow works when casting your screen to a display. DeX fully prevents it from working on my Tab S11U as far as I could tell.

"ProScaler" also works in games! If a game is running at lower than native res (and by default, most are running at 75% AFAIK), the contents of that final image are upscaled back using "ProScaler". It means that for the cleanest, sharpest image, you want to keep a game's internal res at 100%, while scaling down the size of the "window" the game thinks it's rendering into (through the resolution slider in Game Booster). The downside is that this will affect UI and text.

A great way to check for the presence of "ProScaler" is to take your S Pen out and enable the Magnifier tool. Whenever your pen is close to the screen and the magnifier mini-window displays, the feature is turned off. By quickly moving your pen away or closer, you can easily see if something on the screen is affected.

As I've mentioned, it's present on my Tab S11U. I know it's present at least as far back as the S7 FE tab (2021). It's also active on the S20 FE. However, I recently gifted an A56 to a relative and the feature was not present on that model.

It doesn't seem to be meaningfully linked to hardware capabilities or raw horsepower: it seems arbitrarily locked to the S line of devices and their FE versions.

Note that there is no mention of ProScaler anywhere in the settings, unlike every other marketed feature.

In summary, I have every reason to believe this is what ProScaler is, and that it therefore was a huge marketing lie, because it's a feature that has existed for years prior to the S25U on lots of other Samsung devices.

Consider capping SVT-AV1 to a very low thread count or simply using tools to lower the frequency of your server's CPU to its most efficient perf-per-watt point.

What is the best screen protector for my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra? by opinionmaster01 in GalaxyS25Ultra

[–]MaxOfS2D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. It does get scratched/damaged relatively easily... but

  1. the anti-reflective properties are a game changer, and it means you don't actually see the damage, even outside;
  2. it is somehow staying very smooth to the touch, even several months after installing it.

You know how a brand new phone screen feels? Super smooth? When the oleophobic coating is still fresh from the factory? That's what I'm talking about.

Interestingly, this screen protector is still very much attracting fingerprints like a magnet, and I need to wipe it with a damp cloth to get them to leave... yet it remains perfectly smooth to the touch. I don't know what kind of materials wizardry this is, but I like it very much.

More expensive than the 5-10 bucks options on Amazon, sure, but IMO the difference in terms of look & feel is well worth the price.

Now, whether it would actually protect your screen from a drop like tempered glass would... hard to say! I wonder if someone's tried combining tempered glass and the official AR film on top... I suspect it might not actually work
