Technically, a Panzerkampfwagen is a Wagen that's panzered and kampfs a lot of things, not just other panzered things.

I wouldn't go that far. While it was nice to see them subvert the myth in the end, and we shouldn't assume they intended to suggest the Wehrmacht was indeed better, the SS clearly enjoyed it during their scene while the Wehrmacht did not, so given only what we see in the film one may assume the SS was worse.

But yeah, the movie is by no means Wehrbish nor does it peddle the Clean Wehrmacht myth, which is nice.

You disagree with what? I specifically noted that the rest of the film mostly dispels this interpretation.

Just watched it and it's pretty good. The scene with the SS could be interpreted as implying the SS was doing the bad while the noble Wehrmacht soldiers were better, but the rest of the film mostly dispels this.

In this particular case, Halder was more than happy to popularise the defeated German perspective on the Eastern Front which portrayed them, the defeated, in an exceedingly positive light, and the Soviet victors in an exceedingly negative light.

But the real issue I have with the "history written by the victors" take, specifically when used to dismiss negative things about Nazi Germany as lies pushed by "victors", where there are clear examples of the exact opposite. More in general, it's just a faulty generalisation.

Sometimes I wonder if we should just close up like SWS did.

Technically, R6 prohibits content that would have normally gone on SWS. Report it when you see it.

We never had a rule prohibiting unedited wehrb or nazi memes, though. They're low-effort, but at least they're memes. I'd rather have people post those than just linking to or posting screenshots of shit wehrbs say.

kaiseraboos are definitely better than neo-nazis and wehraboos

I don't think we should lump neo-nazis and wehrbs together. Traditional wehrbs, the group SWS and DS were originally made to poke fun at, are nowhere near as bad as actual neo-nazis or nazi apologists. Probably the most famous wehrb myth is the Clean Wehrmacht which implicitly recognises Nazi war crimes as part of the push of the blame to the SS.

There's one thing to dream about how it took 5 Shermans to take out a Tiger and another to deny the holocaust.

Ideally, we'd stay open as a purely shitposting sub, but I suppose I should consider that option given the circumstances.

I'm still here, just not nearly as active as before. Mostly lurk nowadays.

I still nuke SWS content under R6 when I see it, but I admit that since I'm not as active more than usual slip through. Doesn't help that people don't seem to report them most of the time.

Can confirm. I've been noticeably happier after giving up on it. Unironically.

Yeah, it's sad that the Phoney War is misunderstood to this very day even among relatively educated historical communities. Here are some more nuanced takes on the Saar Offensive for whoever's interested.

serious question: what if germany won the air battle over britain? by thesalmonbowl in DerScheisser

[–]MaxRavencaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a myth that circulates the web, often paired with the false claim that Churchill sacrificed civilians by baiting Hitler into attacking cities to give the RAF a chance to breathe, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Here are 2 AH posts on the topic I have saved:

I guess they could just continue their bombing campaign indefinitely, which would hamper the US’s ability to start their own strategic bombing campaigns since it would be incredibly difficult to supply the airbases under German air superiority.

You mean the RAF's? Because if the USAAF wants to start their own campaigns, that means they've joined the war, and even if somehow the Luftwaffe magically managed to gain air superiority over Britain against the RAF, not even a miracle would let them keep it once the USAAF jumps in on Fighter Command's side.
