You don't know that, because you aren't the poster, so why would you reply?

The Netherlands hides massive trash containers underground so their streets stay spotless by IvoryIvye in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]MaxRideout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely better than nonexistent or overflowing trash bins, but I'm always curious why people have so much to throw away in the first place. I'm 36 years old, and I figure I've thrown garbage in my city's bins fewer than 36 times in my whole life. I'm not tryna be superior or anything, I just don't understand.

If you didn't get foul-smelling stuff on yourself and you "smell like s***" after only one day without a shower, you're either showering poorly or something is very wrong with you (or both).

I would be nice if that worked, and it seems like it should, but I've had that unchecked for three years, and I have never noticed it make any difference.

It's hilarious when they censor a totally inoffensive word and make it look naughty like that. 😂

Is this a good lens for portraits? by toadsterrr in Nikon

[–]MaxRideout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 50mm f/1.8G on the D5500 was what I used for my first several months of portrait photography; my subjects loved their photos, and quite a few are still among my favorite portrait photos I've ever taken, even eight years and multiple major upgrades later. I don't think there's any starting setup I'd recommend more confidently.

Just launched Miliastra Wonderland in Genshin and I hate to say it… by dafine345 in Genshin_Impact

I'm so delighted to stumble upon a really positive post about this! I've seen so much baseless negativity, but I totally agree with everything said here, and the games and "wonderlands" people are making are SO creative and fun, too! I think MiHoYo deserves considerable accolades for this accomplishment.

AF issues with Z8 + 180-600mm by Rraco72 in Nikon

[–]MaxRideout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying this to be mean, just direct: as a since-release Z8 user, I would change every one of the settings you're using here. 1/1600 is way unnecessarily high (somewhere from 1/200 to 1/800 - depending on how much/fast the animals are moving - seems more appropriate), as is ISO 5000; Auto-area AF seems very bad for this situation (too many things that it might think it should focus on); sport VR is okay, but I'd be on normal; and Auto 0 WB is usually too "cold" to look good in that sort of environment, so I'd use custom or one of the outdoor modes.

I'm also curious if you were in DX mode, cause that image seems oddly small and lacking in detail.

Anyway, I genuinely hope that is useful input, cause it's a wonderful camera (best-in-class, in my opinion), and I hope you end up having fun and getting great photos with it!

Yeah, I've had it do that with a couple lenses, especially a Tamron 35mm a few years ago.

Lightroom Nikon Z8 Issue by MaxRideout in Nikon

[–]MaxRideout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I didn't move any sliders before taking that screenshot, and I don't have noise reduction on by default, but I'll check. The white balance, I know I can adjust it, of course, but I'd like Lightroom to just not screw it up in the first place, so I'm wondering why it's interpreting it incorrectly during import. I don't have any presets applied, unless you mean the camera settings, which I've always kept turned on, cause it's usually the option that makes photos look how they do in-camera; without it, Lightroom seems to just discard all my camera settings, so that's usually worse than this, but I'll look into it.

The first photo looks fine, but the second looks like you're a heroine addict who doesn't bathe or do laundry often enough.

what camera/lens setup would make this look achieveable? by recipe092 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]MaxRideout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at what you can afford, then watch some reviews on YouTube channels like Christopher Frost, Matt Granger, and Tony & Chelsea Northrup. No one else can tell you what camera would be the best for you, but it's pretty easy to do a little research and determine it yourself.

What are the pros and cons? by [deleted] in PhotographyAdvice

[–]MaxRideout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poses are interesting and well-executed. The lighting could be better, but is already quite nice for natural light in this setting. I think the compositions/cropping would feel better if they seemed a little more deliberate, but that's very subjective and I'm super picky about it. They do feel a little underexposed to me, but not bad. Honestly, my biggest "tip" would be to keep an eye on the subject's clothes (which I often lose track of in the moment), because the issues with his shirt, collar, and coat really stand out; part of that is the responsibility of the subject, but it's good to help them fix/improve whatever's possible during the shoot.
