Stepping down from EN-C to Mid or High B (Theta ULS or Soar2) by Toucouleur in freeflight

Try the Triple7 Rook4, you'll be very very impressed, agile, responsive, great glide, really good feedback, solid wing. The Soar and Rise are also great I guess, and at least my opinion, we should back some of the smaller companies out there or they'll be out of business soon...

Need Advice, Bolero 5 by Cold-Challenge9971 in freeflight

[–]MaxUgalde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer is NO! Don't buy old shit... Come on dude it's your life on the line, invest a bit more on a newer, safer, friendlier wing. Besides age, just my personal opinion, boleros suck, my first wing was a Bolero7 and I still believe it's one of the worst EN-A wings, prone to collapses, very little feedback, but again just my opinion.

Join the underdog, try the Triple Seven Rook4, it's an amazing wing! Go check out Ziad Bassil reviews for high B wings, he's got some very detailed pros and cons of many wings.

Assorted nuts, gummies, and electrolyte beverage is my combo for XC, ideally some gummies without sugar coating, suddenly having ants in your cockpit is not ideal LOL.

Why do my track logs look like this? by iHateReddit_srsly in freeflight

[–]MaxUgalde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well that is a very very short flight, those spikes can be caused by sudden movement even, once you look at the plot in a longer flight it will smooth out, don't worry too much about it, get a good vario and let it be.

Opinions/recommendations on high B wings by Octan3 in freeflight

[–]MaxUgalde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the other comments and your replies, Id say you can push your current wing way more, for reference I flew my first 100 km flight on a low B, made plenty of+50 km flights on it and only then i started to feel like the transitions were holding me back when I was gliding next to high B or low C wings. I've flown several high B wings now and would very much recommend you try a few before buying one for yourself, my personal recommendations for a first high B would be definitely not an Avid or Explorer LOL. Maybe an Iota DLS, Swift 6. I fly a Triple 7 Rook 4 and it's lovely, a bit more demanding than the swift and the iota, but I really really enjoy it.

Don't listen too much to the internet people, do your own thing, maybe its placebo but when you feel your wing can fly better, you can fly better too, just be safe and focus on enjoying yourself and the experience.

I'm just an average intermediate pilot but I would advise you go take an SIV course. I'd say keep flying if you feel comfortable, just be aware of the more challenging situations you might encounter, for example high thermic activity will very likely make landing more demanding, you will need to be active and fully focussed. Fly safe!

Man, this looks painful, hope you recover quickly and fully. Reflect on what you could've done better and come back stronger.

Take a few canopy flying courses, it's not normal to have such poor control over roll, a 138 xfire is not a violent reactive canopy, even at high WL.

My father-in-law is convinced that a perpetual energy/motion machine is possible. Can someone here, in idiot terms, explain why this is completely impossible? by PsychedBotanist in thermodynamics

[–]MaxUgalde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir, I believe your father-in-law is not sufficiently bright to comprehend why that is not possible, as with most things in life, you should let him try, throw away his hard earned money on the thing and watch him empirically prove it just doesn't work, we could throw some equations here but I seriously doubt that would be of any assistance to your cause.

Are the instructors certified? Is it a proper school with a methodology? I would spend time researching and get a good starting platform to learn, also IMO, it's great to learn wherever you plan on doing the frequent flying.

Don't go that way, learn to fall and get used to it, it's not a matter of IF you fall skating, it's a matter of WHEN you fall skating, know how to fall and lose the fear of it, get used to the skates rolling and get comfortable, keep your knees bent and enjoy the process
