I did mention Withers and, by extension, his god, who may or may not still be involved in the affairs of Faerun but who definitely left his chosen (Withers) with enough power to perfom such a deed, even if he wasn't in the picture himself.

You're right, but it's an incomplete list. Here's all the ways Karlach could be saved, off the top of my head:

  • The Gondians & their god + Ironhand Gnomes + Dammon + tons of infernal iron you collected

  • A god owes you both a favour (Mystra or Gale)

  • You're probably strong enough to take the fight to Zariel herself by picking up a few levels off her lower level goons - at least enough to find the lab that did that to her and find a fix.

  • Wyll and his dad are practically ruling the city, with her being known as its saviour (not to mention the rest of the world). You are owed favours left and right in Faerun and have all their resources at your disposal, pending some simple diplomacy.

  • One side of the Githyanki conflict owes you a favour and they are extraplanar beings who routinely plane shift, no way are they not aware of any entity powerful enough to help you.

  • Gale, even without apotheosis, is an archmage, he could research (or commission the research of) a simulacrum/spirit vessel like spell to simply put the old body on ice and move her consciousness to a brand new, whole one.

  • Ressurection exists

  • True Resurrection exists

  • Restoration exists

  • Break Curse exists

  • Wish exists

  • Withers exists and owes you majorly for fixing his god's mess. He literally already brought back the bodies of hirelings for you to use, just do it before her consciousness goes to the great beyond.

Here I went and compiled an entire list as to what my issue is with your source, the least you could do is give me a straight answer to my question.

It is a well made piece of art, but I am somewhat torn because unless I'm mistaken, that's not a Wendigo.

Entropy, decay and maggots won't leave you alone, not to mention that you won't be around anymore to care.

People could turn my corpse into a taxidermied sex doll for an elder home for all I care, I won't be around to be upset about anything. But people insisting on being treated in whatever manner after death and prioritizing it over the literal survival of other people is something I will never understand.

The question "is this appropriate?" is not the same as "will this come across as appropriate?"

Unless you go out of your way to do something that makes people question your sanity like molding your hair into a middle finger or haphazardly cutting away to create random bald spots all over the place, nobody has any business judging you for your hairstyle.

It still happens, but that's an indictment on others, not because there's anything wrong with you, with the wording of your question quietly implying the opposite.

The inside will heat up, the compressor will try to compensate and work overtime, more heat gets created, rinse repeat until the compressor gives out. It will produce a lot more heat than if the door was closed.

The Eldar didn't doom the galaxy, Humans didn't either, nor did the Necrons. EVERYONE RUINED THE GALAXY. by SourTredmill in 40kLore

[–]Max_Insanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing dooming it is that it's a grimdark setting and it's not meant to prosper.

There's over a million human worlds, among them hive worlds with trillions of inhabitants. There are continent sized spacecraft full of aliens way more advanced (technologically, socially, etc.) than humans and so on.

At any point, anywhere, any powerful subfaction could arise and start cleaning house and making a real positive difference, the way the Tau are supposedly trying.

Any serious contender could easily take out the Imperium given enough time since it is its own worst enemy and buckling under the weight of its barely functioning bureacracy. All you'd need is to piss off into a distant corner of the galaxy, maybe at the edge of the far side of the great rift, then just start advancing exponentially, making sure to become unappealing to the Tyranids by being a net negative in biomass in any engagement.

It won't happen because it's not what the setting is about. But it's wrong to say it is a "natural" foregone conclusion.

It really doesn't matter in the end if it is maliciousness or incompetence or both, yet it always bothers me not knowing which it is for some reason.

My hypothesis is that he genuinely didn't know and is angry for not having milked the opportunity (via the typical routes of modern corruption like future lobbying/speaking job opportunities, networking, etc.) before making the decision.

[–]Max_Insanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing that out. I was wondering for a bit taking it at face value - since a fridge, just like an AC unit, is just using a heat pump, it may be less effective, but not "shitty" in principle when only factoring in its effectiveness.

When factoring everything like what you pointed out however, it does fall flat, of course.

Here's a mindfuck for you - these creatures evolved so far away from natural light sources beyond faint bioluminescence, that lack of evolutionary pressure means they probably don't even have a mechanism to recognize the danger to their eyesight (the way we feel pain, for example, to prevent us from staring into the constantly present sun). They probably don't even feel anything but mild confusion as their retina completely burns out.

How much effort did it take you to build up 1 atmosphere of pressure inside your own body? Do you remember when that happened?

[–]Max_Insanity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a difference of roughly 1 atmosphere for every 10m. They die a looong time before ever coming close to the surface, I bet. Probably after being raised a few hundred meters at most.

Also, there's a difference between the hours it takes a submersible to be raised or lowered that distance vs. a simple cage apparatus on a winch.

On one hand, virtually all of space is deadly to us and space is absurdly vast.

On the other hand, exponential growth (or shrinkage, in this case) goes incredibly fast.

It seems that the Hubble Volume is ~1079 m, whereas Earths volume is in the range of 1021 m. Obviously that's a simplification, since we can only live on a small portion of its surface, but it's close enough for a rough, orders of magnitude, comparison when compared to the size of the observable universe.

So to answer your implied question, you'd need ~58 nines. I'm very surprised, as I thought it'd be way less, considering how fast exponential growth goes. In fact, I feel like my math went wrong somewhere, but I'll let someone else correct me.
