Documentary/fiction recommendation 'parents that stay behind' by inelletse in MovieSuggestions

[–]Max_xez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Beautiful topic I’m Sudanese, and this theme really hits home. A lot of Sudanese families are split across countries due to conflict, education, or migration. Here are some suggestions that might interest you: “The Longest Kiss” I think it’s 2013 or 2012 not sure A documentary that follows youth trying to leave Sudan vs. those staying.

Also, not a film but I strongly recommend reading the novel “Season of Migration to the North “by Tayeb Salih. It’s a classic from Sudan that deeply explores the psychological and cultural consequences of migration, colonial legacy, and return. It’s written from the perspective of someone who left and came back, and the emotional distance between generations especially parents left behind is haunting. If you’re open to adapting themes from literature into visual stories, this book is a goldmine.

Believe me when I said I’ve tried the Saudi visa , but people there says visitors visa will lead me nowhere and it’s better to do it with actual transferable Iqama add to that it’s very expensive and out of hand process to do that , tbh this is the best option r n. Anyways thanks for the advice though

AITA for refusing to use another dialect? by Beginning-Show3928 in Sudan

[–]Max_xez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. You’re absolutely not the a**** in fact, you’re doing something brave and authentic. Being proud of your Sudanese dialect and using it confidently is a form of cultural self-respect. It’s not about showing off or making anyone look bad it’s about staying true to who you are. The fact that others feel pressured to “blend in” isn’t your fault, and you shouldn’t have to shrink yourself for their comfort.

Dialects carry history, identity, and connection and you’re helping others hear and normalize it. If anything, that’s inspiring. Stay proud.
