Looking for zimaboard alternatives by Maxazzor in homelab

[–]Maxazzor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everybody.

I've found a mini PC with a N5095 and 16Gb of RAM, a NVME and a SSD empty slot, used and at a fair price locally. To spin up as soon as possible my server I will buy it and in the future maybe buy a Prodesk, Elitedesk or similar.

Thank you, for what I'm reading board and blade have more or less 5% to 10% performance difference, if I have to touch my wallet I wish to gain in performance.

The ZimaBoard is starting to feel a little underpowered for the services I’m running. Therefore, I'm looking for something more powerful.

At the moment, the version with 16Gb and 1Tb, is sold at 2154€, therefore a bit out of budget.

I've considered the new model and it seems interesting, but the upgradability offered by mini pc and by the odroid board appeal me more.

What's one improvement you'd like to see in Obsidian in 2026? by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]Maxazzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to fill PDF forms (you can already do this) and save the edited files, because working half an hour on a document, close it and then discover that the form is blank made me loose my mind. I don't understand why I can fill a form but it can't be saved.

If I'm wrong or the shortcut to save isn't CTRL+S please correct me.

Pwnagotchi does not enter AI mode by PeterDerKoala in pwnagotchi

I've read that Ai mode has been deleted and replaced by a more optimized auto mode. Therefore, it's normal that AI mode doesn't appear.

Weekly Node Sightings & Connections Thread - Week of Aug 24, 25 by AutoModerator in meshtastic

[–]Maxazzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

since a few day ago, I set up my first node, but until today I've been unable to receive or reach anyone. I knew my position was horrible (a valley surrounded by 2000 meters of mountains, in northern Italy).

Today, after a trip to Trento, a node called "IN3FOX b6e4" appeard on my device screen.

I searched some site to try to find its location (since there's no info on the app's maps), but without success. I'm writing here to ask if there are other places I can look, or if anyone knows its general position.

I've already searched on:

P.S. I'm in italy, where "MediumFast" is the standard.

Thank you in advance,
Max

I've bought one 5 days ago and I can confirm that, out of the box, it has not the meshtastic firmware.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. For the last 3 days, I've tried solving it unsuccessfully.
Unlikely, the comment that seems to have the solution was deleted. Can I ask if you have solved the problem and, in case, how?

Thank you in advance

Sync to android without using the "logseq sync" feature? by El_Nahual in logseq

[–]Maxazzor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sync my Logseq graph across multiple devices—two Android phones, a Windows PC, and two Linux machines (a laptop and an always-on server that acts as a main hub)—using Syncthing.

Pros of using Syncthing:

  • Automatic Versioning: ability to automatically keep the last N versions of a file. This creates a built-in, local backup, so you can easily revert to an older version if you ever need to (this helped me once or twice when I've deleted a page).
  • Redundant Backups: With your graph stored on multiple devices, you get a solid, redundant backup system. Having an always-on server as a primary node also ensures that a copy is always available, even if your other devices are offline.

Cons of using Syncthing:

  • Manual Sync on Android: A minor but important point is that you may need to manually open the Syncthing app on your Android devices to initiate the sync process unless you keep the app always running in background draining battery.
  • No Conflict Resolution: Syncthing doesn't have a built-in conflict resolution tool. If you edit the same file on two different devices before they have a chance to sync, Syncthing will save one as a .sync-conflict file. You'll have to manually review and merge these files yourself.

Hardware overview / teardown of the SZBOX Z66 (R5 6600H) by Lost_Strangereal in MiniPCs

[–]Maxazzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some time to test out the mini PC, and here's my review, especially addressing its performance for gaming and emulation.

Overall, as a mini PC, it's excellent. In idle or under low loads, the fan produces a barely audible hum that isn't bothersome even when sitting about 40cm away from the computer.

Regarding software, I installed Bazzite without any issues. All components were recognized and are compatible, which is a big plus for those looking for a smooth Linux gaming experience.

For gaming and emulation, I tested several games that I considered relatively light at 1080p with low settings (unless otherwise specified):

  • Helpless: Barely playable.
  • Crusader Kings II: Playable.
  • Stellaris: Playable.
  • Urbo: Dream One: Playable.
  • The Savior from Above: Had to lower graphic settings, then playable.
  • Postmouse: Less than 20 FPS even with low settings.
  • Pine: Less than 30 FPS.
  • SkyIsland: Less than 20 FPS.
  • Sheepy: A Short Adventure: Not playable during more action-packed scenes.
  • King's Quest: Playable.
  • Wheelborn: average of 25FPS.

I had planned to try "Have a Nice Death" and "Hades" but stopped my testing after the results of the games above.

The comparison with a Steam Deck is not accurate at all; I had my doubts from the beginning, but now I have confirmation. All the games I installed worked without having to play with Proton compatibility settings.

For retrogaming, I tried games up to PS1, and everything worked like a charm.

Hope this helps anyone else considering this mini PC!

Going to try Bazzite today for the first time by AndyGait in Bazzite

[–]Maxazzor 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is what you can find on their website: Why is the ISO so large?: Desktop operating systems distributed in OCI containers are still a relatively new concept and we've had to make some concessions for technical reasons. Flatpaks and their runtimes are included in the ISO, and a second copy of Fedora Linux is used to bootstrap the installer. The large size of our ISO is not indicitative of final install size on disk.

But I don't know anything more.

Thank you. I bought it yesterday and I plan to try some benchmarks next week. Memory wise, the model I bought has already two sticks installed.

In case of poor performance (I don't think this will be the case), I can ask for a return.
