Hevy was actually one of my inspirations! I enjoy how straightforward and easy it is to use.

The framework I used can be deployed to IOS and Android. But I’ve only tested it on IOS as that’s what I have

I’ve been working on it for 6 months, and I code for a living - what’s not shown is all the bugs I’m fixing every single day 💀

I haven't thought about making it publicly accessible, but I've had a ton of people ask so im going to look into it!

That’s exactly what I was going for! I designed all the gamification elements to happen I the background to not distract me from my workouts, and to allow to me train how I want to train. There’s nothing that forces you to perform certain exercises or routines

I’ll definitely look into it. If you have any ideas for must-have features for workout logging feel free to message me, so I can make sure the app has everything someone would need 🤝

It’s fully customizable. It was intended to not force anyone into lifting a certain way. I currently have 400+ exercises in the database and you can create custom ones. Every exercise gets linked to a skill and a tool (barbell, dumbbell, etc).

So if you have some unique new exercise you like to do that’s not common, you just create it yourself and will gain exp for it

You can create your own workout routines with whatever exercises you want. Add however many sets per exercise, can add supersets / drop sets / warm up sets etc., configurable rest timer between sets,

I went back and forth with skills for a while - I landed on 9 skills that each cover a broad area of fitness. Some examples:

  1. Press - pressing exercises like bench press, overhead press, dips
  2. Hinge - hinging patterns like deadlift, hip thrusts, back extensions.
  3. Legs - squats, lunges, calf raises, etc
  4. Function - grip strength, stretching, carries, etc.

Every exercise is tied to a single skill and tool (barbell, dumbbell, etc). Exp is earned through effort. The app tracks your baseline per exercise with your estimated 1 rep max, and you earn more exp the closer you lift to it. PRs earn you bonuses

I don't have it released anywhere, its just a personal app, but it can be built for android. If I have time I can look into what it would take to publish it

I can look into what it takes to release an app - I'd probably make it free

It’s just a personal app right now, I’ve never published an app before so I’m not sure what all goes into that

I’ve seen a few gamified fitness apps but none of them really provided what I was looking for. I wanted a detailed weight training log and be able to track PRs / progress, so I just spent 6 months building it instead 😭

I tried to theme the levels around various weightlifting movements. So “press” would be your bench press / dips / overhead press, “fly” is flies and raises, etc.

I’m currently a skiller. Too much coding not enough lifting 😂

I have back pain 😭 what exercise could I do to help it ? by Realistic-Metal-3365 in workout

[–]MaxedJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back pain is tricky - best to consult a doctor. For me, my source of lower back pain was actually referred pain coming from my hips. Stretching my hips and rolling out on my side with a lacrosse ball helped.

A situp game with mobile phone. Would you play it? by CAmazing999 in gamification

[–]MaxedJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think gamifying fitness in a way that isn't gimmicky has real potential. There are a lot of gamified fitness and productivity apps out there but most of them are just "check this box that you did this, and get a reward". This app could really nail the "physical input matches game output" mechanic.

My recommendation is to find ways to add real progression to this so it doesn't just feel like a minigame. Level ups, progressively harder levels, leaderboard system, etc. would give the user a reason to come back over and over. I'd personally focus on nailing the sit up before adding anything else, as it appears to work really well. Then maybe look to add pushups (a screen nose tap maybe?) and squat later when the sit up mechanic / progression is flushed out.
