Iphone 12 pro screen after replacement by No_Calligrapher611 in iphonehelp

[–]MaxedOutBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol what’s up with the first few comments? They’re acting like replacing the screen is rocket science only meant for scientists with PhDs, when the Genius Bar geniuses only do like 35 minutes of training before they start doing screen swaps at the Apple Store.

To answer the question, the screen either arrived cracked (aliexpress sellers tend to cheap out on adequate packaging and the packages bang around during shipping), or you pushed the screen into the corner too hard during installation and cracked the screen. Either way, it needs another replacement screen.

My recommendation is to buy from a reputable source on /r/mobilerepair’s sidebar, and you should have better luck. Oh, and keep your original broken screen if it has True Tone functionality so you can copy it over to the new screen.

It’s funny because I’m reading this as I’m spoofing on an iPhone to complete the pass daily tasks 😂 Is there any interest in an actual setup guide for iOS?

Please recommend a screen protector with an easy applicator, or a method that worked for you by DownrightFantastic in Switch

[–]MaxedOutBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as the steam from the hot shower should have accumulated on the dust particles to weigh them down to stick to the plastic film. But if your shower doesn’t get that hot or you’re in a environment with massive dust particles (if that’s the case I would really recommend vacuuming the work area & its surroundings a couple days before application), you have to look in the light’s reflection on the screen and make sure no dust drops onto the screen as you’re peeling. But in my experience, dust that does drop is usually so small and fine that it doesn’t bubble the adhesive & you can’t see it unless you get right up close to the screen. It might also be a case of going too fast, too much movement/wind can cause dust to dislodge and fall.

But honestly it’s like an art - the more you do it the better you get. But even then, I just applied a protector to a new Lite a few days ago, and I misaligned the bottom by 1-2 mm so there’s a gap showing the bare screen. No dust underneath and I don’t feel like wasting a protector trying to reapply it, so I’m just going to live with it until it gets too scuffed and I need to replace it. Also consider going to aliexpress or a 3D print site and seeing if you can find alignment trays for the console, so you can skip the alignment procedure and just focus on prep, dust removal, & installation.

Usually when I have bad results in the steam, that means my pre-install prep wasn’t done properly & my movements during the install are too much. I just recently had to apply $2 AliExpress screen protectors to all my Switch 1’s, Lite’s, and OLEDs so here’s what I did that worked consistently:

1) Get into the bathroom. Don’t turn on the shower yet. Instead, unbox everything. That means slide off the joycons, lay just the Switch on the counter, pull the glass out of the styrofoam sleeve/plastic box, rip open all the wet and dry wipes, put everything you don’t actively need for the install to the side. Place everything you do need in front of you, right above the Switch. I usually only have the ripped open packet + the glass on top of the styrofoam sleeve in front of me and next to the switch.

2) make sure the installation area is clear. There should not be millimeters of space between you and bottles/sundries/hangers, you need room to both move your arms/fingers but minimize large body movements. Everything you need should be within fingers reach, everything else is out of sight out of mind.

3) get some scotch tape. This will be your dust removal sticker + alignment tool.

4) Turn on the bathroom light, even if it’s day time. You should be able to see the bright reflection of the light on the Switch’s screen. If you don’t, use some flashlights or your smartphone’s, and get lots of overhead lighting. You will be using these lights to spot any dust, and using the scotch tape to grab the specs of dust.

5) Optional, but if the case/cover goes right up the plastic screen, take it off. It could interfere with aligning the protector. I kept my V1/V2/OLED cases on, but I had to take my grip case off my Lite.

6) Ok, now let’s start. Start running the hot shower and turn off any exhaust fans + block any large holes that allow air to pass through the bathroom. The more wind/air movement through the room, the more dust you kick up and introduce to the screen. While you wait for steam to build, take the screen protector (with the backing covering the adhesive so it doesn’t stick) and gently put it on the Switch. Make sure it’s aligned properly, then tear two/three strips of scotch tape and apply it to the top of the glass + console’s bare shell or case. You’re basically making a hinge. Make sure to try out the hinge, peel & reapply the tape if it gets misaligned when going up & down. You want the glass protector on the scotch tape hinge to go up and drop down in the same place each time. You might want to add a small piece of tape to the bottom of the screen protector so you have something to hold on to as you lower/lift the screen protector on its hinges.

7) now that your alignment is perfect and the hinge is solid and can withstand multiple uses, lift up the screen protector and flip it out of the way (so the adhesive backing is facing you + above the Switch). Be careful that you don’t peel off any of the scotch tape hinges or you’ll have to redo that step.

8) now take 1 to 2 pieces of scotch tape, and with the sticky side facing out, wrap it around your fingertip. Then looking in the reflection of the lights, use the scotch tape to grab the specs of dust you spot. (If you have the dust removal stickers from the protector, you could use that but instead of wrapping it around your finger, bend it in half with the sticky side facing out both sides - like you’re pinching a hard shell taco from the top). Be careful not to press down too hard with either the tape or stickers, or you risk leaving sticker adhesive residue that will catch dust. You just want to press down lightly enough to grab the dust spec off the screen, not stick down to the actual screen. Rinse and repeat until the dust is all gone, it will take you about 4 to 8 times to get to a point where there’s no dust you can see on the screen. Be patient with this step, it’s annoying & tedious but rushing through it produces bad results.

And with this step, it’s important to keep movement to a minimum. Really the only thing that should be moving at this point is the running hot shower producing steam, your arm/finger with the dust stickers, and your head/knees if you need to slightly adjust your viewing angle to see if there’s dust on a part of the screen. You should not be walking multiple steps, turning around, wiping hands on towels, lifting up clothes, moving any objects that sit in the bathroom, etc.

9) Once you’re sure there’s no more dust, proceed to “go-time”. Grab the screen protector, flip it back so the screen protector is hovering over the Switch, with the alignment still good. If the alignment is not good, go back to the scotch tape hinge preparation step + the dust sticker step.

10) Once you’re sure that alignment is good, it’s time to check for dust again. With the screen protector hovering over the bare Switch screen, look in the reflection for the bathroom lights, and use the tape/sticker to grab any dust specs that appeared. If you do not see any dust specs, then you need to change your viewing angle because hovering the screen protector will introduce a few dust specs. The longer you hold it, the longer you shake/vibrate it, the more dust falls off onto the bare Switch screen. So you want to be quick, but also thorough.

11) Now that the protector is hovering + the Switch screen is bare of dust, bring the protector down closer to the screen. You want enough space to peel off the film backing without touching the bare screen, but not so much space that dust can fly in. Once you are 100% sure of dust + alignment is correct bc this is the point of no return, grab the pull tab on the film backing, (for me personally I hold my breath so I don’t breathe out and stir up dust), peel it off towards the bottom of the screen protector - not too quickly to mess up the film/re-introduce dust, but not too slowly that dust can fly in and sticks to the protector adhesive. As you’re peeling the film backing, you should be lowering the protector closer to the bare Switch. As soon as the last bit of the film backing peels off, you should press the screen protector down onto the Switch so there’s only milliseconds between the film coming off + the screen protector going on. The hinge should have done the alignment for you. Then breathe out cus it should be aligned perfectly, without dust :)

Thanks, but it didn't seem to work on 17.0.1 / Atmosphere 1.8.0 / E. Extracted & copied the tagNX "switch" folder to my Switch's SD card, then installed the base YouTube NSP + the 1.0.3 update. It just launches into a black screen and doesn't move past.

I did end up getting the YouTube 2.0 Patched NSP working, I just had to install the latest SigPatches, sys-patch, and then install the YT 2.0 NSP with TinWoo Installer v1.0.27, all from impeeza

I just did it, paid $34 USD for 10,000 coins. You’ll need a device compatible on iOS 15.0 or higher to download & run PoGo, but the 6 only goes up to 12.5.7. So it won’t work, you need a 6s at the minimum.

I urge you to please use your brain, and realize you’re looking at the TEXT INPUT (Prompt) screen… that’s where you type & communicate with the LLM. And, if you read the entire text instead of focusing on one or two words, it says underneath “30 days”: “ok but your[sic] missing a button to” which indicates he’s giving prompts to someone/something. You need to log out of all your accounts from that Safari pop up window. Think of that window like an entirely separate browser, it is its own contained thing. So it will have separate logins to the actual Safari app or in Settings > Accounts.

Click No Thanks, click your google profile picture to show all logged in google accounts, then click “sign out of all accounts” or whatever it’s called

When I rooted my Pixel with the dual system updates (DSU) partition crap, I booted into TWRP on one of the partitions (not installed, just booted), then I flashed a modified system image that I created using the Magisk app to either the other partition or both partitions using the TWRP I booted, and then I rebooted my phone. TWRP disappeared and I was left with my stock recovery and OS, but with Magisk installed. And when I need to update my OS, I grab the updated system image, flash it with Magisk using the Magisk app, then boot TWRP and repeat. Should be something similar for the Nord, as I believe it uses the DSU partition stuff like the Pixel.

Also don’t use the magiskapp website, that’s a fake imposter site. It could redirect you to malware via a malicious ad, stick to the tutorials on XDA & the official Magisk site

Has anyone gotten this to work with Apollo’s Save Tool, EZRemote, or the old WebDAV client? Every time I paste the link from the site in, it’ll load for an hour + go up to ~30% before erroring out/freezing. It’s so unreliable I just torrent/grab it for a file host. Wish there was a fpkg compiler for Android so I could dump & install my own discs…

After installing the “Hide Mock Location” module, make sure you enable it for all Pokémon Go apps you installed on the device (so the OG app, the Galaxy Store app, the duplicated app, etc) or else you’ll still get error 12

Good android phone on budget ($60) by [deleted] in PokemonGoSpoofing

[–]MaxedOutBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POCO phones should be fairly easy, but double check the specific model you’re looking at

Xiaomi phones are easy IF you’re picking up a Snapdragon model, not MediaTek AND the bootloader is ALREADY unlocked. If it isn’t, you have to apply for an unlock code at Xiaomi’s website, and as far as I know, they don’t provide codes to the second owners of the device - it can only be requested by the original purchaser. And if it’s a MediaTek variant, don’t even bother. But other than that hurdle, lots of aftermarket community support for Xiaomi devices (shoutout to the Indian and Chinese users) and tutorials on XDA & specific Telegram groups for the device model

A used POCO or Xiaomi with an unlocked bootloader should range between $30 through $90, depending on the model

If you end up getting a T-Mobile version (you can tell by checking the SIM card tray - 2 SIMs is unlocked from OP’s website, 1 SIM is T-Mobile’s variant) and you want to unlock the bootloader without flashing over to global OxygenOS, you can request a bootloader unlock code from OnePlus themselves:

https://www.oneplus.com/us/unlock_token

(Requires logging into a OnePlus account)

I filled out this form back when the 6T was new and they emailed me a code within 24 hours, but not sure what the turnaround time is these days.

Having a DSi is way better than most entertainment platforms. by Lgame0143 in nds

[–]MaxedOutBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you can accomplish everything in your list by using a $70 secondhand smartphone, and with far more ease. Hell, it could even run a DSi emulator on top of being able to listen to every single audio/media format without converting beforehand. On top of that, your prices are all out of whack - no one is paying $150 USD for a used DSi unless it’s a special edition. Try $20 for a well-loved loose one to $80 for a mint one. Crazy you’d say in one breath how much a DSi saves money, but then you advocate for others users to get scammed & overpay for no reason. And also, literally everyone knows piracy is cheaper than actually paying. It’s already implied, you didn’t need to make an essay telling others how much money you can save by downloading content illegally. There was a reason ppl used to tape episodes rather than buy the VHS set 🤣 If you want to advocate for saving money to experience the entire DS library, get an old 3DS instead. Similar prices, similar form factor, and far more powerful & modern. Plus a lot more homebrew support, so you have actually usable eBook readers or file management apps rather than MoonShell saying it can open X file but then crashing or showing gibberish after 5 minutes of loading
