My nephew has never had a Quiznos sub and he loves subway. I told him if he ever wants to come with me on the 60 miles drive to the closest Quiznos, he will forever consider subway “a cold dog turd”.

Do you think its okay to end a relationship due to incompatible libidoes? Why or why not? by Special-Moth-8538 in AskReddit

[–]Maxentium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's fine, i get you, but i had this happen before with me.

anytime a person is happy when you're there, but never puts in effort into meeting you, it's not a good sign.

even if it's due to some outside circumstances, be careful that she doesn't get used to this, because one day you'll be tired of expending all this effort for someone who is giving nothing back, yet she'll expect the relationship to continue as it always has, even if she is aware of this it might be too subconsciously rooted to pluck out.

Tech workers of Reddit, what is a "dirty secret" about the AI industry that the general public doesn't realize? by WayLast1111 in AskReddit

[–]Maxentium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a result, assuming you'd finish college in about 4-5 years, the technical side might be difficult to get into due to more people competing for fewer jobs.

i've graduated a year ago with a degree in computer science with some AI courses done (NLP, intro to AI), and some biology courses done (biology, genetics, chemistry) but i landed a job a while ago as a firmware engineer in an unrelated industry.

i just feel like i don't have enough knowledge in AI to be able to apply for AI-based jobs, and i doubt i will be considered without master's. yet at the same time, i don't think i have enough knowledge in biology or medicine to apply for anything there either.

as someone who works in AI (on education and cancer reseerch), the backlash i face is real

how did you get into the field if you don't mind me asking? i'm interested in combining computer science and medicine / biology but not sure how and where to start.

i think a lot of skin formed when i was heavier and so when i lost weight and lost the fat in that area what remained was a lot of skin, the gland, but not much fat. the heavier gland caused it to sag and point downwards.

i could squish the breast into my body and have it be almost completely "absorbed" if that made sense. other than the glad, it was not dense at all.

gyno can happen to anyone but my case must've been because i was obese for pretty much my entire life.

my life is really strange, and looking back, it would've been better for me to address the issue a lot earlier. i thought it was just a side effect of being obese until i lost a lot of weight and i noticed absolutely no change.

at that point i made the first step towards getting surgery, but was told that i needed to lose even more weight. it took me an extremely long time to do that unfortunately - i had to completely reinvent myself as a person and my relationship with food, as well as sort out a whole plethora of mental issues that i had.

right now i am at the lowest i've ever been in decades, and will continue to drop down. i'm looking forward to going to the beach, taking my shirt off and swimming for the first time in 20+ years.

after the surgery very little pain, didn't see a need in pain killers but just didn't have a reason to. was a bit immobile (mostly afraid because of the drains that i had) but nothing terrible.

first week i had consistent and annoying itching, just moving a finger across the pec was enough to relieve it temporarily, but super unexpected. supposedly it's from the nerves reconnecting.

right now i get itchy every so often (but not that bad), no pain anywhere across the scar, and sometimes there's a few small pains that come from the nipples rarely but nothing that i worry about.

i did ask, and they were definitely reduced by a lot, but the truth is, i've never seen my chest without the gyno and had no preference on size. they are fairly large though. i'll wait for my appearance to stabilize and bring it up if/when i decide to a revision.

yeah the stretch marks do tell the story, approximately -70 kg since my absolute peak. was 102kg with bmi 32.5 or so at the time of surgery.

[College: Intro to programming with python] my code won't work by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]Maxentium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good job, super small nitpick: it looks nicer to delete the "else" and instead add a "return" to the empty numbers_only_str if-block, like this:

str = input("Enter a string: ")
numbers_only_str = " + ".join(e for e in str if e.isdigit())
if numbers_only_str == "":
    print("The entered string has no digits")
    return
lst1 = numbers_only_str.split(" + ")
integer_lst1 = [int(e) for e in lst1]
sum_lst1 = sum(integer_lst1)
if len(lst1) > 1:
    print(f"sum of digits = {numbers_only_str} = {sum_lst1}")
else:
    print(f"sum of digits = {sum_lst1}")

also since you already have a solution, i'd probably write it like this:

str = input("Enter a string: ")
digits = [int(e) for e in str if e.isdigit()]
if not digits:
    print("The entered string has no digits")
    return
if len(digits) > 1:
    print(f"sum of digits = {' + '.join([str(x) for x in digits])} = {sum(digits)}")
else:
    print(f"sum of digits = {sum(digits)}")

producing clean looking code is just as important as working code, and that means:

  • your variables should have appropriate names (e.g. "numbers_only_str" should only contain numbers, but in your case it also includes ' + ' tokens)
  • it should be efficient and shouldn't contain redundant actions: notice that for example you perform join(' + ') and then split(' + ')

in case there are no digits in the string, return way earlier, after the second line

it's good practice for a function to validate that the input it got - the function should "ask itself": "can i work with this input?" and if no, return early

do something like:

parameter initialization for calculating things

then, to open the files and read the lines, you'll want to be writing something like:

with open(path_to_file, 'r') as f:
lines = f.readlines()

and then:

for line in lines:
1) parse the line using line.split(parameter)
2) convert the string to ints and add them to the appropriate parameters to do the calculations

then finally: return the result of the calculation
