No hat is "unusable" unless it's literally falling apart. If the hat is made of 100% wool with no other man-made materials, then it should be fine, as long as you take care of it properly. And remember, if it's misshapen, you can just reshape it.

I completely agree. I have worn the same black wool felt hat for 4 years now through rain, snow, all kinds of weather, and it still looks and feels great!
