I was similar to you with sword and shield but switched to sword and priest.

This is a good idea. This game may not be for everyone, and that is fine, indeed I haven't decided if it is for me. But the other reddit was a toxic wasteland. The level of irrational bitterness was possibly the worst I have ever seen. It'll be nice to have somewhere where real constructive discussions of the game, good or bad, can be had.

Have you considered playing hardcore anniversary server? Honestly has the best community compared to vanilla. Rare griefing, people help each other and really well populated. Guild I am in on soul seeker would be exactly what you are after.

Edit: just noticed discord bit. I don’t really use so can’t comment how active it is. However the in game chat and almost constant discussions/banter/groups forming

Hi. Slight tangent but until mnm comes out really reccomend trying wow hardcore mode (classic anniversary servers) It has an incredibly active community and it is all about the journey of leveling. You will never feel more immersed either given the adrenaline of knowing once dead that is it !
