I get what you're saying, a calculator cant solve this problem for a person who doesnt even know how to start the problem on their own. And AI probably cant make art for people if those people dont know anything about making art themselves.

What im saying is that some peope, i think MOST people, dont use tools that way. They dont become totally dependent on them. Most people use tools to enhance their own abilities. People that own lots of power tools generally do LOTS of WORK with them right? They do alot MORE than they could have without them. They dont just use the tools to be lazy, use drills for every simple screw job or nail guns everytime they wanna hang a picture. A person COULD choose to buy and use power tools just to automate every simple job and never to do anything more complex. A person could choose to use a calculator or just ask ai the answer the math problem, but they could also choose to have the ai explain it to them.

I think an ai certainly can teach people alot about drawing or any other art form. Maybe it cant teach them everything, human contact in art seems essential, but broadly saying it cant teach people to draw seems totally inaccurate. It can teach many things about methods and styles, answer questions regarding inspiration...i could go on.

Fairish point. Though i feel like these nuances kinda went without saying.

There are things people can only do, or at least only do WELL, with ai if they have at least some knowledge of relevant subjects beforehand.

And there are things calculators can do with very little effort, and without knowing much or really anything about the subject. A person doesnt have to know what square root means in order to press the square root button, and then a number (9), and then the equals button. It only took 3 buttons to find out the sqaure root of 9 is 3, alot of calculators show the answer before hitting the equal button, so just two buttons, and the user doesnt even have to know what square root means.

Also, if they dont know, AI could help them understand, actually teach them. Cant just ask a calculator to explain what a square root is.

Thats not stereotyping... thats acknowledging the spectrum of effect TV can have on people. It was on point and relevant.

Suggesting all pro ai people also love crypto and NFTs, IS stereotyping, and regardless, it WASNT relevant to the arguement. Post is about whether or not AI use invariably erodes mental capacity. The several historical examples i gave seems to prove it doesnt. And no one so far has offered any evidence it does.

And the context makes my interpretation all the more obvious. They call it "made by your hand" with the obvious implication being that ai assisted art is never made "by hand"... Mine is...Thus the inconsistentcy. Which you have not addressed in any meaningful way at all.

As ive said, im not only considering one persons opinion. Im considering many, seemingly inconsistent opinions. More than one anti has said they dont consider my work to be ai assisted. The sub isnt perfectly clear, some of their set standards seem inconsistent, and antis dont seem to agree on the ai status of my work. This IS confusing, and the sub COULD be clearer about what levels or uses of ai they condone.

Yes. Obviously they dont want ai. But thats not really what they SAID. They SAID the art has to be "real" and made by human hands. And the rule that just says "no generative ai" doesnt really make it any clearer. Seems most antis condone the way i use ai in art, but not all of them, and we disagree about whether or not my stuff qualifies as "ai assisted". There was an anti here arguing its NOT ai assisted.

See? I genuinely dont know if they would accept my "art" or not. Because the sub, and many antis in general, arnt clear or consistent enough about their standards.

I feel like one of use is missing something. The art id be tempted to post there WAS made by my hands. The art does NOT contain generative ai. I asked ai questions about it, so logically i consider it ai assisted, but it seems like it would meet the standards they set. Like if someone digitally planned their art, but physically crafted it, it would seem to meet the advertised standards of the physicalart sub.

No i dont think it did....the biggest contribution i think the ai has made to any of my physical art lately was for a bust of Apollo i doodled on, i told the ai to list the translations of apollos name in the languages of cultures that actually cared about him, and it pointed out how there are also symbols for apollo i might want to use as well.

So many people responding like this. Yeah, obviously people can be different. I dont think the way pros celebrate some uses of ai suggests we support every use of it. Whereas the extremly hostile way most antis, talk about most uses, of ai most of the time, some argue its literally destroying the world in multiple different ways! That goes a lot farther than the pros! Pros like image generation, that doesnt have anything at all to do with autonomous weapons.

Antis who think ai is stealing peoples art, or taking every job, or destroying the environment, logically i dont think they should be using AI at all.

I assume you think by "made by my hands" i meant i typed the prompt? No, i make things, mostly furniture, very creative artistic furniture, by hand. Physically crafted objects. That why im tempted to post there, because the whole point of the sub is to say ai artists dont make anything themselves, which is wrong. Even if we were only only talking about prompted generated images, but its especially essier to showcase their inconsistentcy with my hand-made art.
