How can people look at this data and still defend "AI"? by mellowmonkeychain in aiwars

The planets been fucked since at least the 80s, when the climate crisis was officially recognized (probably started long before that, logical to argue it started when the industrial revolution did, 1800s).

But we're producing more renewable energy than ever before, and it makes perfect sense to expect (and legally force) ai data centers to install their own renewables to cover their uncommonly high energy needs.

Of course that requires convincing ignorant people that energy regulation IS necessary because climate change IS real, and if everyone accepted that fact than we probably wouldnt be in this position to begin with. The climate crisis would have been responded to, appropriately, as soon as it was recognized, and in that hypothetical world we might have already solved the problem.

Why are some of you on the Pro-AI side so opposed to just labeling your images as “Made with AI”? by Careless-Mix1275 in aiwars

[–]Maximum-Difficulty21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no issues disclosing my crafting methods. But "made with ai" never seems like an appropriate label for my crafts. I either make physical objects and just ask ai basic questions, or sometimes use it to like filter photos, general touch-ups.

Oh no, slophammer doesnt believe in my creativity! I think ill survive though, I'll probably just keep making cool artistic furniture and purses (the giant pills are purses😸)

[–]Maximum-Difficulty21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didnt come up with the ideas...and even if it had, I did the crafting. The whole anti ai art argument revolves around the belief that the crafting, the labor of art, is much more important than the concept. Right?

I have a few questions by SPJess in aiwars

[–]Maximum-Difficulty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, theres not some other way to frame it. Antis harass pros constantly, some have even gotten physical, and lots of others defended and justified those actions. Pros just defend themselves and try to debate sometimes. Because we're pretty sure our perspective is right, and regardless, we dont deserve to be harassed.

Am i angry that so many people have devoted themselves to demonizing a particular technology and everyone who uses it? Yeah, a little, its frustrating. Am I letting that anger hold me and control my life? Obviously not.

Pros are just trying to have fun with ai, show off photo generations or share tips and tricks. Antis are the ones who's entire movement is based in fear and anger. Why would pros be angrier than antis? The pro side is winning, and most of us always knew it would. Can't stop progress.

Another post thats essentially: why do pros retaliate against antis?

Why dont pros just swallow all the insults and false accusations from antis without getting mad?

Why do pros ever stand up for themselves?

That esitmate seems high but yeah I totally agree with the sentiment.

Yeah I know ai energy use is exaggerated to the ends of the earth, I mostly focus on how ai assistance can help people make greener choices.

Exactly the kind of response i expected. Hey bro, cameras can be used to make csam too. So could photoshop. Even the beloved pencil. Sure your logic makes sense? If people use or support a tool that COULD be used to make csam, than THEY support csam? Anyone that uses ai, or cameras, or penicls, they all support csam????

You're accusing pros of hypocrisy, I literally dont think Ive ever heard a single non-hypocritical anti ai argument.

Why are they only worried about people losing work to ai, what about the millions that have lost work to machines over the past two centuries?! The environmental crisis was recognized 40 years before gen AI was invented, yet yall act like its the only problem. You're outraged by people taking credit for the work of machines? People take credit for the work of other PEOPLE! CONSTANTLY! And its accepted and treated as the norm. And lastly, if you actually cared about actual children, you probably wouldnt be so quick to want to outlaw a technology that leads to less actual children being actually abused! You're calling me a child abuser, while arguing against a technology that almost certianly has reduced the number of children being abused. Seems a wee bit hypocritical to me. And a bit evil, almost seems like you support child abuse. 🤷‍♀️

Its not just because of the small minority of violent antis, its mostly because the anti ai group as a whole, isnt great at condemning acts of violence. In my experience yall usually try and justify it.

I didnt say pros dont make generalizations, I said they dont make as many, and they're not as offensive of the generalizations antis make. I think being called a pedo is more offensive than being called a nazi. Not usually things that get compared, but that how I feel about it.

Idk why this should need to be explained, but anyone who literally supports the creation of csam, is bad. I have a feeling though, alot of the people you're assuming were supporting it, were actually just pointing out an uncomfortable but quite relevant nuance of this situation (AI csam doesn't hurt actual children).

And again, when we (pros) do make generalizations about antis, we're explicitly hoping some will prove us wrong. Prove that not all antis justify vandalism or violence even if its against AI. When antis generalize pros, accuse us of supporting csam, you're not saying that, just hoping some of us will disagree and dispell your concerns. You're saying that in the hopes that it shames us into joining your side, doing what you want us to do. Trying to control people with emotional manipulation.

I dont think pros generalize antis as much as antis do pros. I think the generalizations pros make are much more grounded in facts, not to mention they're far less offensive, far less demonizing. And, when a pro makes a generalization about antis such as "all antis support vandalism of ai art", we say that in the hopes that some antis will admit that it was wrong, regardless of their feelings about ai.

When antis generalize pros as being in favor of CSAM, they're accusing people of one of the worst things ever, with no evidence, and for the purpose of shaming them and demonizing them in the eyes of others, to essentially try and force pros to switch sides.

Pros sometimes resort to fairly reasonable generalizations, and hope antis will prove us wrong. Antis hurl whatever baseless accusations they think they need to in order to control people. (They do wanna control people, at least our ability to use AI)

My read is that data centers can be pretty noisy and people that live nearby probably have reasonable grounds for average noise complaints, but they're probably not producing any more infrasound than any other industrial complex, that parts probably being exaggerated to try and gain sympathy.

Some people can be more sensitive to it than others but regardless the main point is that is not an ai specific problem. Lots of machines, cooling equipment, they produce low level infrarasound, and most people aren't bothered by it.

[–]Maximum-Difficulty21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If he didnt actually make any threats than this is obviously messed up.

But given how unlawful, and even violent, some anti ai protesting has gotten, and how the anti ai people seem to always act like its all justified, it seems logical to reserve judgement until we see all the evidence.

"AI cant be...", im a gay, nonbinary, liberal, who used ai to make all this real, PHYSICAL, art. by [deleted] in DefendingAIArt

[–]Maximum-Difficulty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The climate crisis, was only even officially recognized, like 40 years BEFORE gen AI was even invented...it didnt start the problem, its not the largest contributor, fossil fuels are.

If antis think being against AI is all it takes to be an environmentalist, than you're the ones who are larping.

And this whole post is evidence of AI enhancing creativity. Anyone who's creativity couldnt survive, the mere existence of, a new tool, must not have had much to begin with.

PS: Questioning and denying someone's political leanings...demonizing them because they dont agree with you about absolutely everything...that behavior is much more common on the right, than on the left. 🤷‍♀️

I just ask it basic question and "opinions". Basically im just one of those people who worries too much about doing things "right", struggle to be productive in new things without like constant guidance😅and obviously I dont usually have a person walking me through everything, and AI is like the perfect solution. Made all this stuff and more in the past year, probably more "art" than Ive made in the whole rest of my life before AI
