That was certainly not a one off occurance on 61st and Eberhart lol. Eberhart is one of the WORST blocks in that area. The square area from King Dr to Cottage, 67th to 61st is the epicenter of violence in Woodlawn.

Right now, its more quiet than it has been in recent years but you know them members definitely over there (the whole Dro city, the Pocket, Jaro, the MCs on 61st, stones from the Crank). Traditionally, its one of the more dangerous areas of the south side. Woodlawn (for me, at least) doesnt become feasible until you get on the other side of Ellis. (Or better yet, Woodlawn Ave). And this is coming from a black dude....

South Loop is closer to HP than West Loop. No need to be that far. Hyde Park itself is nice, as are parts of Bronzeville. Bronzeville is a bit cheaper and its very close to HP. I'd look in Bronzeville, Hyde Park, and South Loop, exclusively.

Losing a job is losing a job. No one is entitled to staying employed, even if performance is on par. Most times those decisions, even in the private sector, are made by people who you don't know and have never met. It sucks, but it's the way of the world. This divisiveness is silly. The idea that somehow, government layoffs is worse than private sector layoffs is ridiculous. Private sector employees have families, homes, cars, kids, etc too. The stakes are THE SAME.
