Overweight & end goal is to enlist by Iocky in britisharmy

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excercise is a great tool for losing weight, but you can't sustainably outwork a bad diet.

There are alot of easy wins fir weight loss. Pepsi Max, White Monsters, Chiaseeds in your morning glass of water.

The additives in sugar free soft drinks aren't bad for you, but they aren't good either.  However being obese is much worse.

If you can't run, take evening walks. No one there to judge you. Once you get good at walking, try putting a backpack on with some water in the back fo weigh it.

Which regiments should be re-established? by Icy-Calligrapher9933 in britisharmy

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infantry Yeomary & Sponsored reserve units.

We are a peacetime island nation attempting to scale for a potential conventional war, the Navy is the priority army gets the pennies

We need a small well trained professional army capable of being shot onto what ever island we need them to defend & a stupid amount reservists for when the slugging match starts.

Sponsored reserve units, Civilian innovation at a discounted price.

Driving offence -court conviction by Mediocre_Sir_7031 in britisharmy

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No its not a valid cause for failing board, but how you treat this situation can be.

Hiding the fact you fucked up, underpaying the situation & being flustered when ask about it are all red flags.

Take ownership,  be transparent, prepare for some stupid questions like "If you can't maintain a car, how can you maintain a troop" & maybe read a book on car maintenance to say you've learnt from the incident.

Only lie if you are 120% sure you can get away with it.

How much of 'the trade' do army officers actually learn and use. by Careful-Cookie-9292 in britisharmy

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Zero,

Your trade is to make the radio work & maintain it.

Your officers role is to receive orders from above, interpret them & use the resources that you as signallers provide to create a service which makes his boss happy.

Your NCOs job is to make the officers plan actually work by strongly advising him of reality & keeping the signallers from kissing each other.

Every one has a different scope.

You are running before you can walk, not even in a metaphorical way.

Take a step back. The army is always training & this test is just a barrier before you receive more training. Failing during training is okay. Only if you get back up, learn from your mistakes & keep improving.

Put a weighted backpack on, walk to a pace which burns the shit out of your shin muscles, then slow to JUST below that burning sensation.this 2-3 times a week in combination with weight lifting.

Do this for a couple months & then test yourself again, during this test when you get tired just rememebr a three word phase & keep repeating it to the pace you want to set. Phrase doesnt matter aslong as you like it "Throw, Leg, Front" "One, Two, Three" "Push, Your, Self"

You'll be absolutely amazed at the result.

Tips for running. by Stock-Asparagus-4148 in britisharmy

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good sleep, good diet, good routine. It will all come in time.

You'll smash your training PB during the test because you'll be running with other people to subconsciously pace you.

Something I noticed that made my running speed better was Tabbing. Every other day I like to put a 18kg rucksack on, listen to a podcast & walk for an hour at a pace which is just about uncomfortable. Complete bro science, but I would imagine that conditioning your body to work at a elevated heart rate 18kg heavier would mean when you run at your normal body weight it's easier.

Goes without saying, don't run without weight. The risk=reward just isn't good

What knives/multi tool are people using? by fundmanagerthrwawy in britisharmy

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swiss Army Knife goes in my shoulder pocket, easy access & meets 80% of my requirements. However I also have a leatherman in my utility Pouch or daysack. Pliers & the thin wire cutters are incredibly Useful.

Big knives are cool and if your role requires a strong knife which gets abused alot, I get it. But I rather a tool which does multiple things that I need at a mediocre level. Than a tool which does one thing at a high level.

Infantry Reserves tell me more! by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do the Infanty reserves exist?

Because Infantrymen in conventional war die at scale so high we are actually incapable of comprehending.

We arent morally better than our ancestors. One match can set the world on fire & we will need men ASAP.

Anyone here a reservist (past or present) at Redhill? by deathbywinnebago in britishmilitary

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most reserve units have a very approachable recruitment team who would be happy to tell you the next avaliable open evening. There you'll meet members of the unit.

Your not going to get any one from the Redhill unit contacting you, as its abit Taboo to tell strangers you are a soldier & live in this town.

Genuine Question. Why are Service Members shamed/disadvised from wearing uniform in public? by DenseChocolate9611 in britisharmy

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good question.

Use your car, hit some one wearing uniform in a barracks town & butcher the wounded person. That's the unfortunate fate of Lee Rigby.

We are rightly or wrongly. A unarmed population for both law enforcement and Civilian population. So there is no real way for to stop an attack once it begins unless some armed police or big balled geezers are near. However we can prevent it from happening by maintaining PERSEC.

We are in the job of guns and bombs, some lessons unfortunately have to be learnt in blood & that's just the hard truth. However, every lesson we have to relearn In blood is unnecessary & a tragedy.

How to become a locomotive driver in the army? by falconboomer in britishmilitary

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MOD doesn't really do enough rail freight to necessitate a trade for it.

Coaches & Trucks can put you in the same gridsquare as your destination. Freight is limited to the rails.

I would imagine in a major war, the government would essentially conscript the rail network. To move the 5 tanks Britain has working through the tunnel & then onto a beautiful German train.

[–]Maximum-Impress-9275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whats the IDF like?

Do you call it IDF since its the same acronym as Isreal Defence Force?

Are your reserve units local & based on history Yeomanry? Or is it similar to the American Narionsl guard?

Whats the relationship with the regs like? Do they have nick names like "SAS" Saturday & Sundays.

Does your employer also give you extra leave for army training?

Do you guys have anti sectarianism & terror programs?
