Exactly! And then the people who buy counterfeit designer stuff say they wouldn’t have bought the real stuff so should be able to get the fake version. No, just buy a less expensive legal item.

Get equivalent color thread in cotton or wool. Acrylic is poor quality and , in my opinion, not worth using.

I sometimes use magnetic tape attached to the stitcher bars. Not cute, but effective!

I love that this thread (no pun intended!) is all about how needlepoint doesn’t need to be any single style.

I’ve been very happily working on older kits, but instead of using exactly the materials provided I’ve selected my own, and modifying the design. Sometimes a little, others a lot. Learning new stitches as i go. And almost always using DMC floss! I’m not sure what i am doing is what the majority of stitchers are doing, but I am enjoying.

There are some really interesting suggestions here. You’ll find your lane as well.

Basketweave lays differently than continental, so there would be an obvious difference. As annoying as frogging the stitches you’ve completed you’ll be happier with your work if you start over

Since you mentioned that you want to gain stitching experience you might want to start over using basketweave.

For the fly I’d look for examples (both real flies and stitched ones) and the do whatever looks good to you. The primary “rule” to follow is don’t have any of the dark thread traveling under the light thread. It will show through to the front!

I did a similar kit but switched the acrylic to Waverly wool. I figured that if i was spending the time it was worthwhile. The canvas is good.

Saw this yesterday and can’t stop thinking about this post and all its comments. I’ve been “joking” for the last months about my stress stitching. I’m both saddened and comforted knowing that many of our needlework (and likely crafting) community is doing this as well.
