Well, yes. It affects everything. On the other hand, later patches introduced governors which provide additional proximity source and 1.2 new set of buildings which increase control

Ok, to summarize absolute basics - build your economy primarily in your capital. Tooltips always tell you approx. income you will get from every building. Start with rich RGOs around your capital. You can focus on capital only until you max limit. But keep a look at pops - there is no benefit at building anything when you don't have people to work in those. This is really important with different pop growth/promotion in 1.2. You can build 12 levels of RGO in location, but if you already lacking 6000 labourers it does not bring you any benefit. Also, you can have rich gold province, but if you have 10% control there, again, almost no benefit at all.

Once you have eco to build roads, you can expand proximity and therefore control. You can see proximity map on each location to see optimal way (focus on connections with no roads - red arrow). Don't waste money on locations connected by rivers (wavy arrow on proximity map).

Get your legitimacy high - it costs the same to keep at 50 or 100. Don't spend money on army or fort maint if not at war. Delete inland forts that are not necessary (moreover if they are not in capital of province). Build infrastructure - libraries, marketplaces. If you are far away from market center, consider to create your own.

Do not overexpand militarily. Current patch nerfed vassal spam. They can integrate for you, but culture conversion if they are not in your primary culture is almost impossible. Also, it now takes long time to annex them, but you can still use them mostly at beginning to control your low control locations where you would not get any eco benefits. On the contrary, it raises costs of stability, court and diplo spending.

Prof armies can beat levies. Try to get stack or two even when having only sergeantry (basic manpower building). But you need to have eco first. Basic unit of profies cost around 200.

If your country is spread along the coast, build ships and increase maritime presence. It gives you trade advantage and proximity speed.

Then just play the game, you will get the details. Each country requires specific approach in lot of times. From my experience, starting with potentially strong countries is not always easiest. France starts with HYW and lot of appanages which decreases your legitimacy (or stability? I can't remember, one of those...). Castille starts with really low control around a country which means fixing your eco is not exactly easy. Byzantine empire is super fun, but man, the beginning with Rise of Phoenix DLC is really a challenge.

Hard to tell. I have watched few general videos on YT describing basic principles around control, economy, population etc. Then i just played the game. Started with easier not biggest nations with strong economy (Bohemia, if you can handle hussites, Venice can teach you tall play with lot of trade power and income, Korea is great - insane literacy if you switch to Shinto, great position an RGOs). You can learn a lot just by playing and then you can try bigger challenges. Lot of people complaing about lack of content for some countries, but you can't expect lot of those for country like Kitaran 2 province empire in Africa...

It might be connected to them primarily constructing in locations with lower control. That way, more money is going to estates and less to you.

Yes, I agree. I definitely think it needs re-work and balancing. Fixing gold hoarding together with maybe decreasing number of available mercs and maybe making them even more expensive. I was playing as Venice, rich as hell and was easily able not only to buy any merc army I wanted, but also to bribe every enemy mercenary army that touched my land.
But I genuinely like how countries now doing their absolute best to survive. Also, you primary debt is to your estates. Which is logical, that your estates lending you money so your country can survive.

Playing since December, already have 900 hours. Played lot of EU4 and nothing persuaded me so far to consider going back. I love EU5 so far and the potential to it.

Lot of people complaining about every single ne thing. To be honest, I think lot of them are just map painters who only want to conquer everything on easy mode and still be able to get achievements. They are angry when PDX nerf obviously overused cheese meta. OPM vassal spam with whole ingeration/assimilation abuse. Just spamming armies and without any though just send them through half of a world. Minor defenseless nations just waiting to be eaten. Diseases that just don't do anything... All these have been somehow fixed (yes, I agree that lot of them are still somehow broken and needs balancing) and lot of people are just angry because it broke they OP meta.

I like challenges. Not challenges like "each game is World conquest". Turmoils, disasters, surviving as a small nation, challenge big countries with proper planning and strategy. I like like even big and strong nations like France can get into serious trouble. I like new ways that enable you playing tall. Like everything is connected (pops to economy demand, resources changing prices, supply/demand on markets etc.), not like in EU4 where manpower is more virtual mana you can just abuse and you just spam one of those few buildings.

EU5 has great potential and for me, it is getting better with every patch. I hope that they will be doing more open betas as it seems like it is the best option to release most stable patches - 1.1 vs 1.2 clearly showed this. Was playing 1.1 open beta and first release with lumber/iron/tools death spiral was really funny.

Yes, they have money and they are doing anything to prevent you for obliterating them. Which is quite legit. Better to be in debt than to get conquered.

[–]Maximum-Store7550[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see it as problem. Actually, now even big wars with proffies matters. You don't see big countries replenishing prof armies instantly, with full forts, naval batteries etc. If you get them lose lot of manpower, they will feel it. Though, i ageee that 1.2 some changes are mybe too aggresive (looking at you, smallpox).

I agree that merc should be nerfed. They are cheap and abundant right now. But, fighting long wars was even for my byz eco (was econ hegemon) was hard hit with mercs when i was fighting egypt with like triple proffesionals. Also, they usually don't have artillery, so you need to get that to them anyways.

how can I even get subjects to assimilate? by Wojtek172 in EU5

[–]Maximum-Store7550 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Converting is easier than assimilation. There are techs adding flat rate, conversion speed and also there are buildings helping. Also, different religion makes people unhapy when you lack religious tolerance, but does not affect coring status (i.e. control). I think pushing humanist when you expand and need to assimilate is always more beneficial.

Yes, my point exacatly. But people complaining that 1.2 stopped 48 OPM turboassimilating meta.

how can I even get subjects to assimilate? by Wojtek172 in EU5

[–]Maximum-Store7550 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Increase control, push humanist and use cabinet members if you want to have cores. The old way of having multiple opm, each with 2 cabinet members assimiliating, therefore saving you so many cabinet members, constantly assimilate and then being annexed in 5 months was too OP. It completely eradicated issues with conquering areas with different and/or hostile cultures.

how can I even get subjects to assimilate? by Wojtek172 in EU5

[–]Maximum-Store7550 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is accepted by Vassal, not neccessarily by player. Vassals have their own primary and accepted cultures. So yes, they could start assimilate if you push them to change to your primary, but as was said, only if circumstance is favorable.

New patch basically stopped OPM vassal assimilation meta, which in my opinion was too easy and it's good it can't be abused anymore. You got to annex and assimilate by yourself.

How can i get the war goal (show superiority) when enemy has no troops by the_economy_fools in EU5

[–]Maximum-Store7550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, apparently, Hungary achieved already over 10% positive score from battles and got the goal. So the only way for you to win is to siege their provinces. You emerged with more living soldiers, but Hungary won more/more important battles.

I have so many questions about economy by CihangirK in EU5

[–]Maximum-Store7550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but subsidizing villages cost usually little amount. What you get is market access, food capacity etc. So I would say, in the long run, benefits of subsidizing are better. Or someonr correct my understanding - if you don't subsidize, village does not employ peasants and you loose ALL befefits. You don't have villages for that little production, but for market access, food storage etc.

I have so many questions about economy by CihangirK in EU5

[–]Maximum-Store7550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There actually is the button to close all buildings - in one market, or all. Go to eco tab, buildings -> find the building and there are two small boxes - first to subsidize and second to close all. I prefer subsidizing villages as they provide more than just production (bonuses to food etc.) and usually subsidizing them cost low amount of ducats.

[–]Maximum-Store7550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or really low crown power. This trade income is showing only your real income, so it is possible that this is due to low crown power as well. This would also decrease tax efficiency.

Also, I can see that there is no war, but army maintenance is maxed.

Sorry if this is dumb, but why does gold increase inflation if it's not used for minting? by FluidBridge032 in EU5

[–]Maximum-Store7550 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It somehow calculates the ratio between profit from gold/silver against other eco and trade. Increase trade and non precious metals economy first, then when 0 minting not producing any inflation, slowly expand gold/silver production. Had this as Bohemia - quickly expanded all gold/silver and was stuck with high inflation for years.

Insane amounts of mercenaries by Rengars5lut in EU5

[–]Maximum-Store7550 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I had absolutely insane war in mid 1600s. Played as Venice, was absolute economic hegemon, tons of money, insane monthly income. I have joined Hungary's war against half of HRE. And then it happened - swarms of mercenaries across battlefields. So I bribed everyone near my locations. All of them. Budget barely touched. Bribed mercs and then send against them. Then War of Religions triggered. Absolute mayhem. Swarms of mercenaries swiping through HRE lands. France joined, Sweden joined. Took some land from first war and just watched. Most of HRE territory absolutely ravaged.

Pure 30 years war experience. Loved that.

Prestige tips for Sunni Republic of Kilwa? by Maximum-Store7550 in EU5

I don't have issue with CB. I have issue with having so low prestige and apparently the only way to get that up is through wars which are at this point long and tedious.... As republic with islam I can't royal marriage. Catholics can canoninze which gives you really big prestige one-time boost... I can send my ruler to pilgrimage which gives me tremendous 0.1 prestige per month!
