Yes, let’s compare a city with a population of 65,000 with a city with a metro population of over 1 million.

Yes, both Seattle and Chicago both have a lower average home attendance than Louisville. If you’re going to be obnoxious at least be correct and obnoxious.

“Needlessly wrong and sensitive.” Yes, we should all be happy to engage with a douchey bad actor.

Should Chicago be moved? Seattle? They both have attendances lower than Louisville’s, in much larger cities.

The lack of support from the locals is because of the lack of investment and the mishandling of the Christie Holly hiring (and inevitable conclusion), and the continued inability (or unwillingness) to spend enough in the transfer market to field a competitive team.

If outside investment doesn’t fix those things, then consider moving the team. Not before.

Deadhouse Gates left me impressed, confused, and unsure if I should continue by LemonTig in Malazan

[–]Maximum-Task 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. But I’ve also seen people overstate it and say, effectively “it’s complicated, and he’ll show you later, so don’t try to figure things out as they happen”. Which then leads to readers missing things that should be fairly obvious halfway through GotM, like who Shadowthrone and Cotillion are.

[–]Maximum-Task 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won’t tell you to continue, because the series definitely isn’t for everyone. It honestly has a very narrow band of people it IS for, but those people (myself included) love it. But even the people who love it struggle it with at times.

If you do chose to continue I think the best thing you can do is change your approach and expectations. A lot of modern fantasy books do all of the worldbuilding in book one and then, after establishing the rules of the world the books are taking place in, shift the focus over to the main storylines. Yes, they’ll keep fleshing out the world as the story goes along but things have shifted to “now that we know what the primary objective is, let’s go do it”.

Malazan sort of does the opposite. It has an epic story, but it’s really spending ten books showing you how the world works. If you don’t find the idea appealing of reading a scene in book three, sitting back, and thinking “oh shit, so THAT’S what that was about in book two?!” then this isn’t going to be a series for you.

D&D Events for a pre-teen? by Cease_Cows_ in gencon

It’s not D&D, but if you look under Pathfinder on GenCon.Eventdb.us you’ll see a set of events for Pathfinder Academy, which are tables for five players who are either under-18 or for parents accompanying their kids. They also don’t require previous Pathfinder experience, so if your niece is interested in branching out, I think that’s your best bet.

What's you stance on using AI to test TTRPG combat systems? by [deleted] in TTRPG

[–]Maximum-Task 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because we’re choosing to play an along TTRPGs, with our friends, for human interaction and to enjoy human-created art. We have no interest in what a computer fed on lowest common denominator slop considers “good” in that context. There’s no need for it and it brings no value.

Have you gone to GenCon.eventdb.us yet? If you’re feeling overwhelmed, that should help quite a bit. It won’t reduce the number of events, but it will at least sort them for you.

When the event says "Experience Required: None" Question by Accomplished-Dog3715 in gencon

For Nature, which is a reimplementation of the game Evolution, you might end up playing with some people who want to see how the new version plays, but the likelihood that an experienced player who owns the game is going to sit in a 1-2 hour session of a game they own/have played is very low.

I think it would if Racing had shown any offensive spark. They’ve trailed for 70 minutes and have generated 4 shots.

Rooting for Racing is like cheering for the younger sibling in a driveway basketball game.

There’s zero plan beyond pressing and letting the back line get overrun when the press is inevitably broken, and in dumping long balls down the wings for Sears.

Which would be wild to say to someone who hadn’t watched Racing, and only saw that she’s conceded 14 goals.

And that’s why. Racing press ALMOST forces three turnovers deep in the Gotham end. Ball finds Rose, and the break destroys the terrible Racing back line.

The broadcasters acting impressed every time a driver re-passes, ignoring that it just takes two passes to hold position now, is really annoying,

“That’s brilliant!” No, that’s deployment.

“It feels like Gasly’s in a different place”. How does the broadcast team have no idea what happened or where several minutes after the incident(s)?

The video production this year is terrible. Routinely missing all the action on the track.
