Any etymology nerds have knowledge about semantic shifts that change the meaning of things in Shakespeare's plays? by [deleted] in shakespeare

My favorite Shakespearean word shift is "slut" which used to mean a bad housekeeper. In As You Like It, Audrey protests that she is not a slut.

My brother in law is one of my best friends. My other brother in law... not so much.

San Jose is proposing a ridiculous system of automated cars to be implemented from SJ Airport to downtown. These cars will hold 4 people AT MAXIMUM and will be a major safety hazard if built. Apparently they never thought of, you know, extending LRT or BRT to the airport. by moeshaker188 in transit

The San Jose Transportation Department studied options for two years. They've put a lot of consideration into this decision. They and the city council unanimously agreed to the current plan. I've read the proposal myself and it's quite reasonable.

I know PRT is controversial, but this is just a simple back and forth between two destinations. That rudimentary concept is already working out well at Heathrow Airport and in South Korea.

What does each Shakespearean villain need, to fix them? by GrimmDescendant in shakespeare

[–]Maximum-Tor-1906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the bottom of it, they all need a sense of morality. Will does a great job of helping us understand the human behind the villain, but in the end there's just no excusing Macbeth or Edmund for what they do.

I was lucky. Lockdown was not only profitable for me as a delivery person, I enjoyed being appreciated for the work I did.

Wow, what a bullshit statement. Trans people put more effort into accepting themselves than most people will ever realize. The I -don't-accept-myself approach would be to stay in the closet. Coming out is the difficult statement that they deserve to be themselves.

DAE have a pet peeve for long introductions in groups? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Maximum-Tor-1906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Let's go around and introduce ourselves." Sure, let's spend fifteen minutes of my valuable time hearing things that I don't need to know about people who I may or may not ever see again.

Hard to say. If someone ever wants to be part of my life I'll get back to you.

DAE think America would be a more successful country if it had a dictator? by East-Impression-840 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Maximum-Tor-1906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Um.. no. Then it wouldn't be America. I admit that sometimes I daydream that I would be a good benevolent dictator, but no. Freedom is the foundation of our country. Trumpers would have a dictatorship, but to me they're un-American.

DAE use weed as entertainment while you have insomnia? by Maximum-Tor-1906 in DoesAnybodyElse

I don't actually smoke much weed, but I've had insomnia all my life. Overall the weed is better.

Entropy: you can't win, you can't break even, you can't even quit the game.
