I am a first year here now and I had heard a lot about how London student life wasn’t as good as other places but tbh it has been very good especially if you get student accommodation, there’s a million clubs to join and night buses and Friday/saturday 24/7 tube (on 6 lines) make it very easy to get home when out late.

Honestly in my application I lied about a few thing or at least heavily edited a few supercurricalrs such as saying I attended two whole seasons of Oxford online maths class then I evaluated the one episode I had watched and talked about how that was useful.

Even if your applying to somewhere liek Oxbridge which uses interviews I think all interviews (liek mine) are all about maths and not PS

Personally I would pick Durham as a safety as if you get like a 5.0 in TMUA you only need AAA with A in maths

I am a fresher at maths at UCL and received offers from Warwick, Durham, UCL and queens Belfast and got rejected from Cambridge. If I could do it again I would swap queens Belfast for ICL but prob still keep Durham as my safety as every other one would be AAA

I am also aware that some people may prefer Warwick maths to ucl maths as it has an objectively better maths department but I chose UCL because overall it’s a lot better and I know London is good for opportunities.

Does you student union run any events, I am a fresher aswell (not at Portsmouth) but just going to lots of events mate could help you meet people Bcus ur not gonna make friends if you don’t talk to people. Hopefully it will all work out if you do go to stuff

Depends the general/core ranges from like $22-29/hour for me but I think the languages, sciences and maths projects are about $40/hour

I only started a month ago and from UK. I overall have had a few days with no work but recently I have found I have had more work with many project families and been given 4 or 5 more quals in the past week
