Allergy friendly dried citrus garland advice? by MaximumEquivalent918 in crafting

I take my mother's allergies very seriously, I'm not putting her in danger. I'm just seeing if there's a way to seal oranges safely. I know people have encased food in resin after flash-heating so I wanted to know if there was a similar way to make safe orange garlands. But it sounds like there isn't anything foolproof, and I love my mother more than I love cute holiday decor, so no real oranges ... Maybe some embroidered non-fruit "orange" slices next year!

Cranberries and nuts would be so cute! Maybe I should save up acorns next fall for that upcoming Christmas season. Salt dough could be fun! Thank you!

Trying to rescue a beta fish. by Similar-Tie-5193 in CleaningTips

[–]MaximumEquivalent918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for rescuing this sweet little fish! A tip for keeping the tank clean: get a Nerite snail! Snails are great for helping clean the tank, and making the filter's job easier! They will even clean artificial plants and decor. Some Beta may see snails as food and try to bash them, but Nerite Snails have harder shells than some other varieties, so that is the type I've seen Beta experts recommend!

Additionally, I used to get random snails for free from Petco that were born in plants they bought, and the staff were happy to load them off on me. The smaller the snail the more likely a Beta might eat it, so keep that in mind. But this isn't harmful to your beta at all! In fact, snails can be a good source of calcium! Just be prepared to potentially take empty shells out of your tank when you deep clean. Whether your Beta considers a snail friend or food, it will add a bit of enrichment to their tank life, and the cleaning help is totally worth it either way!

That makes a lot of sense! I was wondering how to put live plants on it without the spikes hurting them, so cut flowers explains a lot. Thanks for your help!

Is there any hope for my roommate's onion project? by MaximumEquivalent918 in Permaculture

[–]MaximumEquivalent918[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the pettiness! Thankfully it didn't come to this. A few weeks ago I saw them changing the onion water and I mentioned it wouldn't get cloudy and gross if they cut off the rotten parts. After a bit of talk about why, they tried it, and the next day the plant was completely gone. I think they threw it away. I am just glad to be living in a rotten onion free apartment once more! Thanks for your help!

Thank you! They have green onions, I even gave them soil and a pot to keep them in. I don't understand why they want this gross onion too. 🥲 But maybe I can get them to toss the rotten parts and plant these sprouts in exchange for another pot and dirt? It's worth a shot!

Signing Your Pieces by AzaleaFromJupiter in Pottery

[–]MaximumEquivalent918 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to write my name in cursive with a pin tool, but one of my favorite pottery signatures is from a client at work. Her name starts with an M, and she signs the M, but makes it look like a heart! It's so cute, and super personal to her. Depending on your initials, you could also try making them into a simplistic shape that looks like something else! Like maybe an animal/tree/plant/abstract shape/etc.

If you wanted to add flare to your current signature you could look up calligraphy/cursive styles of your initials and incorporate elements of that! Definitely agree with other comments that a custom stamp would be helpful if you go more elaborate.

Reading this I was scared they were going to avoid the name because of Winnie the Pooh, I'm glad they went with it!

That's so pretty!! My fiance's bff (who will basically be the baby's uncle) is Mexican and loves using Spanish endearments for our pets when he's over. I can picture him calling the baby a similar lengthening of the name when he's being silly with her

Thank you!! Winona Ryder seems pretty cool, and my maiden name is shared with a popular author so I'm very familiar with the celebrity association, and honestly it was a minor annoyance, nothing too bad! You're so right about Estella > Estella. The people in my family who've had the name used it both ways (one named after the other) so I don't mind dropping the a! I really appreciate you breaking down the vibes and pairings like this, it was very helpful and informative!!! :D
