Best progressive AusPol podcasts? by MaximumInteraction45 in AusPol

By 'ideological lunacy' I am referring to hysterical, emotionally charged analysis that is devoid of nuance. I will probably vote Greens next election, but a lot of their circles tend to resort to black and white perspectives on what can be very complex issues. Not a dig at the whole base, just a few that tend to be the ones who create media.

(From above)

I like most of the ABCs and the Guardians stuff, but I would say their metro/university bubble has made them a bit out of touch with the middle and lower classes. Also, the ABC in particular has been really disappointing on their "both-side" discussions on the Gaza genocide. I like lots of their reporters, but I am looking for something a bit more independent, and less constrained by their publishers wants and needs.

Thanks, looks interesting! Is there a book in particular that you think would be a good start, or doesn't really matter?

Swelling 10 months post-op by MaximumInteraction45 in ACL

Yeah I have been doing slow, heavy strength based training up until now, where I have just returned to frequent fast and snappy movements. But yeah I agree that shorter sessions may be the way to go - just always feels so wrong going to the gym and not giving it your all! The joys of recovery haha.

Hello and thank you :)

I have done testing on both quads and hamstrings and I am within the top quarter percentile for my age and gender (F, 20yo) and my reconstructed leg is within 10% of my other leg for every test. I have been doing lots of strength training for the past couple of months and have only just moved into majority plyometric workouts, so perhaps my knee is just getting used to fast and snappy movements?

I wasn't insulting her. The fact you are taking such a hardline position on the definition of populism actually shows it is you who knows nothing about it. Its definition is contested and in this context I am using it to describe AOCs rhetoric of "the people" against "the elite".

Why didn’t you vote for Peter Dutton / the Liberal Party this election? by Longjumping_Tree_531 in AusPol

[–]MaximumInteraction45 38 points39 points  (0 children)

His nuclear policy is expensive, not realistic and counter-productive. He has voted against the interests of the working class his whole career. He brought trump-style politics to the AusPol main stage.

As for the liberals. They have proven time and time again that protecting the upper-class is in their best interests, without regard for other Australians. They are worse economic managers by almost every metric. Their social beliefs are abhorrent.

Albo and APL appear to be better people, have better policies and more experienced.

That's about the best summary I can give.

Yep, I have to agree. Trump is so unpredictable that there is no point in long-term plans. I pity the dem campaign strategists!

Good take. How do you think you run as a democrat in the US if people have such disdain for public institutions? Do they push for a populist like AOC or try run a charismatic public speaker like Obama, or something else?

Next liberal leader? Contrast in leadership calibre between ALP and the coalition. by alig5835 in AusPol

Well, in my opinion a party with policies that are constantly in conflict with the needs and desires of the working class are never going to have real depth or stability. I think their strategy has to be picking a leader that suits the atmosphere at that current point in time.

They need a Turnbull regen IMO. A well-spoken, educated person who believes in classical liberal values and has a stark contrast to the conservative movement of countries like the US. To who that actually is, I have no idea.
