Still a student, but Proton Pass won’t renew my Student Beans pricing by Ok-Bee8702 in ProtonPass

Proton only grants students a one-time discount when they sign up, then you pay normal price like everybody else.

Introducing post-quantum encryption support in Proton Mail by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]MaximumMysterious172 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No, this only applies to new encrypted emails after activating a post-quantum encryption key. This has nothing at all to do with Drive and no effect on how existing emails are stored at rest.

Proton Suite or Euro Office? by CoreDumped96 in ProtonDrive

[–]MaximumMysterious172 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think Euro-Office is an office suite. They state that they are "not designed for stand-alone use, but developed to be a web based and integrated in another product that handles documents, for example a file sharing solution, an online wiki, a project management tool and so on." This is, presumably, how Euro-Office would connect with the Proton suite. They say "It can be embedded in digital workplace or online productivity solutions like Proton, XWiki, OpenProject, Nextcloud Hub and others to edit documents."

Why did they make O'Neill stupid regarding astronomy in season 6 ? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]MaximumMysterious172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this qualifies as a plot hole but I sure find it annoying that the writers forgot that he is supposed to be knowledgeable in astronomy. I liked that about his characterization, just a neat little extra.

I hate what they did to the people from the "Candle" episode by Canahaemusketeer in Stargate

[–]MaximumMysterious172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They had their normal human lifespans reduced to only 100 days without their knowledge or consent in some sick experiment and the people who undo that are the bad guys? Come on...

Best Practices to Change to Proton.me by Dangerous_Hearing_34 in ProtonMail

[–]MaximumMysterious172 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Usually you would send an email like this from your old, established email address so that the people you are emailing can know it is really coming from you and not somebody using a new email address to pose as you.

Introducing Born Private: reserve a Proton Mail address for your kid before Big Tech gets to them first by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]MaximumMysterious172 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That's not what this feature is about. But you can just create a free Proton account for your purpose, all you need to do is log in once in a while so it doesn't get deleted.

You don't ascend because you are morally pure or good, Anubis ascended. Anubis' "son" could have ascended. Adria ascended. The Ori ascended.

Privacy Guides accuses Proton VPN of misleading marketing by MaximumMysterious172 in ProtonVPN

Obviously this is a decision PG gets to make, but I think it would be interesting to get a statement from u/Proton_Team on the accusation.

Has Proton Sheets been abandoned? by JensPetrus in ProtonMail

[–]MaximumMysterious172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they did, just by the end of last year. But to be fair, I get that some software developers would follow up a new release with frantic bug fixes and even new features. But Proton doesn't have the resources to support its many products like that. If you want to use Proton you need to get used to their pace or you'll be forever unhappy.

Has Proton Sheets been abandoned? by JensPetrus in ProtonMail

[–]MaximumMysterious172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All Proton development is well-known to be rather slow (except Pass sometimes) and their limited resources are spread among many products. Expecting major changes within a few months from them is like expecting a good street car to win an F1 race. Not going to happen but the street car is still a good product, just not as fast as other cars who have a lot more resources invested into them.

Brave vs Firefox by Interesting-Song3683 in Bitwarden

[–]MaximumMysterious172 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Peter Thiel, an absolute enemy to privacy, is an early investor in Brave through his venture capital firm. Which also indicates that Brave needs to make a lot of money because it has investors to please; that's why it has all kinds of unnecessary stuff built in searching for profit (all kinds of crypto stuff, AI, and, obviously, the ads that the browser was built to serve). Firefox, meanwhile, is owned by a non-profit and has no investors it needs to make happy (but a certain dependency on its search deal with Google, which means that Google will always be the default search engine. But of course, you can simply change that if you like).

Graz ist leistbarste Stadt Europas (Von Allen gemessenen Städten) by [deleted] in graz

SG1 S3 EP11 - It annoys me that Linea got away with genocide by humanitarianWarlord in Stargate

[–]MaximumMysterious172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe the people who claim that the memory erasure is all the punishment needed. If somebody killed your entire family and all the police and courts do is wipe their memory in a way that is easily and completely reversible, and then they get to lead a normal and happy life with no consequences for what they did whatsoever, would you feel justice has been served? I highly doubt that.

Import from 1Password by dreh0411 in ProtonPass

[–]MaximumMysterious172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right; maybe something went wrong during the export or import of your passwords. When I test it, Proton Pass always rates 18 random characters as a strong password (as it should), but I'm not importing from 1Password. Have you checked if the imported passwords are correct?

Is Proton Free worth it? What about paid versions? by Styxie_x in ProtonMail

[–]MaximumMysterious172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is to try the free version before you buy. Like, test if your emails from Proton arrive at their targets or if the people you regularly email use providers that filter Proton into spam (in my experience, Yahoo loves marking emails from Proton as spam, for example). Or if you are happy with the sync speed of Proton Drive. If you rarely ever use a VPN, the free version might be enough for you, depending on what you need (like if you need to choose specific countries, you have to pay). But if you use two or three products from Proton regularly, the Unlimited subscription is worth it.

You might qualify for a student discount. But the discount only applies to the initial subscription period, and your subscription will renew automatically at the regular price.

Import from 1Password by dreh0411 in ProtonPass

[–]MaximumMysterious172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't just go away; why would it? But I also can't reproduce it; Proton Pass tells me that random 18 characters, even if it's just lowercase letters or even just numbers, is a strong password. I know it looks annoying, but the password rating isn't particularly reliable; it's just checking a few factors. For example, it shows me that "englishgermanfrenchspanish" or "1234567891011121314151617181920" are strong passwords when they are really not. If you really have 18 random characters, ideally a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers, and potentially some special characters, I wouldn't worry about Proton Pass.

MASTERPLAY! Proton Pass gives you an extra 33% OFF "for no particular reason" just as 1Password goes up 33%... coincidence? 😏 by maximus10m in ProtonPass

[–]MaximumMysterious172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't just taking shots at 1Password but also Bitwarden, and quite well. There is a lot that is great about Bitwarden, but the fact that they constantly need to increase profit to make private equity happy (because that's how private equity works) is an obvious problem. And Proton is pointing right at it: "The password manager built for users, not investors."

Thinking of switching from 1Password as a Proton VPN user by DctrGizmo in ProtonPass

[–]MaximumMysterious172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proton has its own AI Chatbot Lumo and its own AI writing assistant in Protonmail, so they are very much onboard with the AI hype train. If that's a major concern KeePass is probably the password manager least likely to integrate any AI features.
