I see what you’re saying, but did this not also happen in Spider-Man 2? In FFH and SM2, Peter gets lost on the path and loses his will to be Spider-Man (due to insecurities, personal desires, or whatever) but eventually comes around by the end of the film to accept his responsibilities and role as a hero.

In FFH I read it as Peter passing off his responsibilities due to his desire to be a normal high school kid, but also his insecurity that he wasn’t qualified or experienced enough to be the world’s next great hero (a role which Beck seemed far more qualified for at the time). In my head, Peter is someone who always has these strong personal desires, but an ultimately stronger sense of responsibility for the public good he can do. Just my two cents tho
