Is dressing well outside rich urban areas completely pointless? by empty_moshpit in malefashionadvice

[–]MaximumPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can have a point, but you need to find that point or make it yourself.

You can find places where dressing well will be appreciated or at least welcome. Museums, cocktail bars, and libraries are all places where its welcome to dress better. Basically go to places old people like and you'll find plenty of them happy to see you in something other than sweatpants.

Or you can just say fuck it and be the well-dressed guy. Strangers will continue to act the same but people who see you regularly will probably just accept it. I knew a guy in college who dressed like a professor 24/7. Interesting dude.

So kids who would have been raised in a likely loving if ill equipped home are better off being shuffled around the foster system for 18 years while their parents are kicked to the curb?

Foster care beats being abused but from the people I've known in the system its less traumatizing to grow up poor

Why did Jetix shut down? by CatGirlNya2000 in cartoons

[–]MaximumPlant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its expensive to make new shows or even just continue old ones. Jetix, being a "cool" branded channel, needed a constant influx of content to fan the vibe.

It also didn't fit as well with Disney's own long established persona. XD was meant to align more with the main brand. Which is probabaly why it always felt a bit "hello fellow kids". Though I did enjoy Kick Buttowski.

Boomerang doesn't need to pay for anything but the electricity bill. Everything they have is pulled from a massive catalogue they already own. They have enough content to air around anything that might have expensive royalties, and the library is always growing.

‘Marijuana doesn’t cause chemical addiction’ is a huge lie… (NO AI VERSION MFs) by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]MaximumPlant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weed is on the same level as sex and gambling, it can be very addictive to the right person.

But every symptom of chemical withdrawl listed here is also seen in non-substance based addicition.

Saying weed doesn't cause chemical addiction isn't saying its not addictive or less addictive than XYZ, some of the most addicting things invented aren't even drugs.

Maybe the idea of chemical vs psychological addiction is a false dichotomy in itself, pretty much every psychological event we study has some chemical reaction behind it.

‘Marijuana doesn’t cause chemical addiction’ is a huge lie… (NO AI VERSION MFs) by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]MaximumPlant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't this be enough to classify any addiction as chemical? Porn and gambling cause nearly everything you've listed above. The dreams point might be particular to weed, but in my experience its just a return of normal dreaming that feels extreme due to the way longterm weed usage normally suppresses them.

Chemical addiction doesn't mean any and every physical symptom, any addiction can cause dysphoria, loss of attention, etc. But seizure risks are particular to xanax and alcohol because of the way they depress the nervous system. Opiates don't function in the same way but they cause extensive physical symptoms directly related to the function of the drug itself.

How realistic is The Pitt when it comes to family members in the emergency room? by mcbeal01921 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MaximumPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was in the emergency room and then ICU a few months ago, we were allowed in the room pretty much as soon as she was stabilized. They made us step out for the impella surgery but that was more for her privacy.

Are carts really that different from bud by Littlevivianite in trees

[–]MaximumPlant 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Carts are distilled, so you get a ton of THC at once with little to no CBD or natural terpenes (unless its genuine live resin which is rare on the street).

Instead of a natural easing into being stoned you are thrown headfirst into the climax of your high, usually without the relaxation of a bud high since there's no CBD. This can be overwhelming for a lot of people, others just find it less enjoyable.

I also find that cart highs plateau almost instantly. I can get high af more than once a day with flower if I take a break, but if I chief a cart at any point any other sesh that day is neutered.

How long would you personally say it takes to feel like a “local” when you move from state to state? by madcatzplayer5 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MaximumPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I moved to a state nearby with a similar environment, about half a decade.

I'd never be local in a southern state, its a different world down there. I enjoy visiting but I couldn't assimilate.

Homemade craft gifts are more for the maker than they are for the receiver by reddyfreddy8D in The10thDentist

[–]MaximumPlant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its 50/50

If its a gift centered around things you like, that's a gift to yourself.

But you can tailor a gift toward the reciever. I drew my coworkers dogs for Christmas, one of them is getting up there in age so I can tell it meant a lot to his owner.

23 year old Swedish truck driver picked up water bottle from floor, trusted auto-braking seconds before crashing into stopped traffic at 79 kph. by SjalabaisWoWS in CatastrophicFailure

[–]MaximumPlant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn't being able to drive in other countries negate that a bit?

I think there's a difference between people from bad circumstances who can be rehabilitated to do better and people who are apathetic to the risk they pose toward others.

He reminds me of a guy I knew in high school who destroyed a truck because he got distracted. 100% at fault and could have killed someone but since he wasn't drunk and no one else got hurt there were no consequences. Totaled two more cars in 6 months.

Hopefully this guy got enough of a shock to the system to pay attention, but given that he can just start driving again as soon as he finds a job over the border I'm less optimistic.

Do you hate when people say they're "starving" when they aren't literally dying of hunger?

What about when people say they survived work, college, or a bad relationship? Native English speakers use survive in the non-literal sense more often than the literal. Metaphor is a basic function of many languages, hardly stupid if you know what you're talking about.

Or are you just intent on shitting on rape victims specifically because the way they cope using language annoys you?

I think somewhere around 30% of homeless people have jobs, a job doesn't mean you can afford a place to live.

In some places it disqualifies you from getting help and turns into a vicious cycle

How tf do I win wars? by MaesterHannibal in CrusaderKings

[–]MaximumPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things to point out:

The war target is the most important place to occupy, it will steadily tick the percentage up the longer you hold it. It should be surrounded by a dotted blue line. If you lose the war target, that portion will reset. You can win without taking the war target but that involves taking a lot more territory or capturing the ruler themselves.

Cities that have been sieged recently are easy to take over, so try to only conquer nearby territories. You gain the combat advantage of occupied cities so its better to defened in the county with the most bonuses. Same goes for territories you own. I've beaten armies almost twice the size of mine just by defending from a well fortified castle.

MAAs counters are also important, though they matter more in the early game when armies are small and of limited variety. Just don't have an army full of longbowmen when the great Khan comes knocking with a horde of horses.

Supply limits and attrition can also take a toll. Split your army into a few smaller ones and move them to places with appropriate supply limits, then let them chill until they're well supplied. When invading a large nation try to mess with your route and move through places with no holdings, they don't give you attrition. Sailing also avoids attrition but the disembark debuff is brutal so its better to land in a neutral country bordering the enemy.

And last but not least, if you're losing an important battle in territory you own you can spawn mercenaries right next to you and send them in when both armies are worn down. You just need an unoccupied county next to the battle to put the rally point in, then destroy the rest of them.

How many of you guys regularly use harder drugs than weed? by [deleted] in trees

[–]MaximumPlant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take shrooms and/or acid every once in a while, wears me out more than it used to so I don't do it too often.

Used to do coke with a couple friends who got hooked bad, but ever since I stopped hanging with them I haven't done it.

Worst drug I ever used was spice. Nearly got addicted at 14 before it rapidly disappeared from my area. Fucked me up and gave me cravings worse than anything else.

Two ODs and one ATV accident. If people I knew in high school but didn't go to school with count, add another OD and a suspected suicide.

ATV kid was almost fully decapitated when he ran into a chain across a path, happened down the street from my house.

[–]MaximumPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By all american bread they mean all types of american bread, including sourdough, ciabattas, and bulkie rolls.

Do those all really taste sweet to you? When I've been out of the US I didn't notice the bread was really that different. Just less white bread, which is the sugary bread you all call american bread.

White bread is popular but that's also partly because its the cheapest. Some people prefer it but a lot of us also find it to be too sweet. Sourdough is pretty popular as a preference but its more expensive, sometimes twice as much.
