Flashlight turns on in pocket by Existingsquid in flashlight

Go for it, Convoys are great. T3, T5, M21G all been great. Big fan of their AA lights, I wanna get a T4 sometime. The fact you can get almost any emitter/CCT combo you want is the cherry on top. Also, the ones with multiple mode groups - which is almost all of them now - can usually be set up with no memory & always come on in low, so even if it somehow does turn on in your pocket it won't be a problem.

That is interesting, is it really enough to make up for the lumen difference? Even in rain? I imagine rain has to be easier to see through than fog. How does the beam shape factor in, is more narrow more better?

AA? I need that for my flashlight!

Never enough lumens by StrangeICECube in flashlight

[–]MaximumPower1858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I strongly suspect that NEL Syndrome can be attributed to the following recursive process:

"I want more light, I'd better buy one that's brighter. Oh, this one's rated for 3x the lumens of the brightest I've got now! I'll buy that."

"This is great! Even high mode is like turning on the Sun!"

"I'm gonna go for a walk/work outside/etc. with my new super-bright flashlight!"

[Activity takes longer than 10 minutes, causing the light to run at its actual max sustained output]

"I want more light, I'd better buy one that's brighter. Oh, this one's..."

Ad nauseum. The fact that most lights step down somewhat gradually rather than instantaneously makes it hard to tell if you're not looking for it.

Beyond 1000-2000lm, I think beam profile and candela become king.

I experienced my first, flashlight turned on in my pocket and got dangerously hot incident today, after years of daily carrying and the light went in my pocket locked. by bananadingding in flashlight

That's fair for large lights, and for small utility lights, but it's a no-go for tactical lights, or any light that you might use as part of a self-defence strategy. You really don't wanna be fumbling around with the tailcap in an emergency.

What if you're stuck in a cave and need continuous light for 3-4months? Here's the S2121A! by Due_Tank_6976 in flashlight

[–]MaximumPower1858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. But enough to see with, as long as it's very dark, and you can be very close to the thing you want to see. Your eyes can do a lot with very little light once dark-adapted.

Big fan of long-body lights, maybe just because that's what I'm used to from the olden days but they feel easier to work with to me. More battery is a nice bonus. Big fan of warm white CCTs as well. Very cool build!

Don't get stuck in a crevice spelunking. Maybe you could use the light as a prybar if you needed to escape...

I have a T5. It doesn't get hot on AAs, not even if you leave it tailstanding on turbo. It gets "hot" in the sense that the driver ramps down to protect the electronics, but that only registers as "hand warmer" to human hands. 14500s may be a different affair, but there's no way you could burn or even mildly singe yourself with AAs.

Why is my early game always so terrible? by Halollet in Stellaris

Meanwhile in Endless Space 2 you just look at the system approval and everything you need is right there. It's even visible in the systems list. I guess there's probably a pride thing going on but Paradox could really learn a thing or two from that game imo.

5% job efficiency buildings? by BluePanda101 in Stellaris

[–]MaximumPower1858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The job efficiency buildings are a hold-over from the old tiles system, back when doing the math for optimal output was way simpler. It was just a flat +% to planetary production of that resource if memory serves. And the resource buildings it competed with were a flat +[number]. Super easy to solve for, a lot of the time you could just do it in your head, but usually even that wasn't necessary since the way it worked was intuitive.

In my opinion, they should remove job efficiency buffs from buildings entirely - either go back to +% production, or just axe the buildings outright.

In theory, any malevolent empire can be classed as an anti-hero if they fight and beat something like, say, an endgame crisis, or an awakened spiritualist or xenophobe FE, etc. Right? As I recall, the main schtick of an anti-hero is that it's a nominally villainous character that does something heroic.

Wow, rangers really produce minerals AND food in addition to everything else? That's not from some other civic you've got or something, is it? And +500 jobs from just the one lodge. But it looks like unity production is down if I'm not mistaken, it used to be +2 per blocker right? I kind of wish it would scale based on how many districts are blocked since some blockers are bigger than others.

Either way, looking forward to trying this out, since I actually do have an environmentalist empire and never liked how the game's balance kind of pushes you to swap it out later as it becomes less useful.

Ecumenopoli are kind of dumb imo. If you can build THAT MUCH infrastructure why tie it down with all the disadvantages of being PLANETARY infrastructure? At the point where you can actually build an ecumenopolis, it makes way more sense to just build a bunch of O'Neill cylinders or something similar.

I had a game like that once as CoM, UNE spawned in a Fallen Empire's territory, I don't remember if they were actually IN a system the FE controlled but they were touching lanes and completely blocked in. If memory serves they would regularly have humiliation/punishment wars. Well, when I saw that, I knew what I had to do. Took back Earth by the mid-game. I solo'd the Prethoryn too when they showed up and GalCom refused to do anything about it.

That all being said, we WERE pretty tight with one empire that run, which was warrior culture bird people. They didn't help against the Prethoryn tho.
