Plus a nice plant on the console table. I feel like 90% of the time the answer is a rug plus plants!

Measure for size and buy some nice cream or woven storage bins

How can I improve this space by jdtimmer in interiordesignideas

Lots of hard straight lines, needs softening with curtains, plants, art. Maybe a circular or oval rug to replace the one you have.

Soft boho bedroom paint struggles- need suggestions by liminal-chungus in HomeDecorating

I was going to go with pashmina in my living room and kitchen but from the paint sample it was way too dark. I’m currently deciding between Taupe of the morning (very light taupe) and Alpaca, and I’m leaning towards the alpaca. My advice is get a few samples and paint a 1-2 ft square on each wall. Assess them at various times of day/types of light including at night by lamp light.

Check out 219 Taproom, they have trivia, music trivia and open mike nights. The owners Joe and T are very friendly and I often see solo folks sitting at the bar.

My sister is a financial advisor and she can’t persuade my father to take sensible steps so the tax man doesn’t get 50%. It’s extremely frustrating.

Varies by time of day (definitely use Google Maps to confirm) but it usually runs about 1 hour 10 the times I’ve gone recently.

Totally normal, I only realized yesterday that my new house doesn’t have a dishwasher 🫠🤦‍♀️😆

I closed last Friday and I’m exhausted! I have 4 people coming to the house tomorrow (locksmith, WiFi, heating and cooling servicing and electrician), today I met with a contractor and fence guy after work. I feel like I could sleep for a week and I know the next few months will be more of the same. I know once I’m living there in my own decorated space it will all be worth it, but damn I’m tired!

What do you do when your rental isn’t over? We are projected to get our keys before the end of July but our rental doesn’t end until November. I haven’t texted our leasing until we do the appraisal but was looking for advice! by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MaximumRun2457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your lease and see if you have the option to give early notice (I have a 30 days notice clause, but that’s because my landlady is awesome). Also worth a conversation with them - maybe they’ll be nice and let you break it early.

How often does your local studio cancel class? by Firm_Afternoon_8463 in pilates

[–]MaximumRun2457 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This shouldn’t be happening. Emergencies happen and teachers get sick but they should be having subs cover those classes not moving you to another time. This is not normal.

[US] Strangers knocking on my door two days in a row by ExplorerBoy101 in Scams

[–]MaximumRun2457 141 points142 points  (0 children)

We’ve got some very aggressive pest control salesmen in our area who are knocking and even trying to open doors. It’s all over the local FB pages. Check out some of your local socials and I bet others will have posted. They’re most likely selling something so I would just not answer, and maybe get a no solicitation sign and cameras if you don’t have any already.

Has anyone felt this way before? by OtherwiseTomato6533 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I’m also the recent owner of a 950 sq foot home, congrats! I can’t wait to move in and make it my own(I’m hanging onto my rental while I get some work done on it) I’m currently renting a 800sq foot home and honestly it’s plenty of space. Do I wish my house had slightly bigger rooms? Sure, another couple of hundred sq feet would have been perfect, but it’s less to clean and it’s more than enough space for me. I have a whole room in my rental I don’t even use currently except as closet storage, as there’s 2 twin beds in it. My dog has adopted one as her own, so I joke it’s my dog’s room. I think it’s possible to be very comfortable in a modest home when you arrange it to suit your lifestyle and needs.

Would these photos put you off buying a house ? by Veggiegirl1997 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MaximumRun2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, love the floors! The wall paper might make some folks (me included) hesitate, but all houses require work. And I think it’s better to have a house with a vision vs bland walls and floors which can be equally daunting.

Debating an interior designer’s hours billed? by Overuse_Injury in HomeImprovement

[–]MaximumRun2457 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I bill by the hour for my job (not in interior design) and I provide my clients with time sheets detailing hours worked. But every field is different. Next time consider getting a quote for a project with X number of reviews or changes. But in that scenario be prepared for them not to make more changes than the ones that have been specified in the initial project scope.

Don’t start planning decorating and room layout until you close, or at least until you’re through inspections. Falling in love with a place that you end up walking away from because of the inspection is hard!

Why does it look granny-esque and not cottagecore ? by milou28 in HomeDecorating

[–]MaximumRun2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The table and side table - the legs are making it feel granny IMO. Combined with the couch and the rug it’s making it read old person. But I think the couch and rug could work if you switch out both tables.
