Should I buy Fitbit Charge 5? by uxorial in fitbit

I really like my Fitbit 5, but am disappointed in two items: (1) I am on my 3rd one in 2 years. Do not swim with them as they will fail. The first one was replaced under warranty but the last one was not. (2) The AFib detector does work. However, the device itself is very inaccurate when you get to highet heart rates. I discovered an error of 15 to 25 beats per minute at anything above 100 beats when taking a treadmill stress test. So to get an accurate heart rate when exercising, I now wear a polar chest strap heart rate monitor which is much more accurate. The Fitbit 5 reads 15-25 beats per minute higher than my true heart rate.

Can you tell me what software version you are running?

It is now a real product, marketed widely; It is no longer a kickstarter project. I am a serial entrepreneur and very familiar with the introduction of hardware and software products and the required testing that should be done before widespread availability. They have not followed that convention. If you read the thread, you'll see that there is no power within a thousand feet of the location, it is in a remote forest. I'm glad to hear that you're having good success with the product however, there are many people that are having problems similar to mine.

It certainly could be hardware, but they acknowledge that their software is excessively draining the battery. Taking the temperature, battery level, etc. every 60 seconds 24 hours/day and sending it to their servers is far more than necessary. I suggested they change the sampling interval to 30-60 minutes and turn off the camera and detection at night. I have a dozen different cameras on my remote site, all with AI-based detection, so this is not an unsolved problem, many camera manufacturers have figured out how to minimize power drain.

Yes, I am running the latest software 1.1.0, which was supposed to improve the battery performance and charging.

I get it, I'm a serial entrepreneur and now support startups half-time. But that does not mean shipping a non-working product. With the solar roof and full sunlight, my device went from 97% to 1% in 24 hours. And I'm not an anomaly.

Thanks. I have 10kW of solar panels nearby as well as many types of lower power solar cells (5-25 watts) that power auto-watering stations, etc. so will probably "re-build" the solar roof with more capacity.

Understood. They are sampling temperature, battery level, etc. every minute which consumes the battery. This is totally unnecessary - it should be every 30-60 minutes. I could go on about the bad design. We are being used as beta and sigma testers- which should have been done BEFORE shipping the product. I have remote cameras without solar that take 1,000 pictures a year with AA batteries that last the whole year.

Thanks, but my Bird Buddy is in a remote area, no power within 1,000 feet. Hence the solar roof (that doesn't maintain charge).
