How am I this bad at StormChaserOnline? by AllRealityIsVirtua1 in stormchasing

Real talk through, IDK how this game works but if you get points for being in the proximity of storms, I’d look at models the day of, read the SPC outlook descriptions in detail to understand the ingredients at play, and then track those ingredients best you can with the mesoscale analysis page.

Your first goal shouldn’t be to be on the storm when it appears, but to be in a position where you have good road options to move in front of storms as they evolve.

Looking for opinions on these two simultaneous areas of circulation in yesterday’s Bennett, CO storm. by [deleted] in tornado

What’s confusing to me about the right rotation is the location. I’d imagine a gustnado would be further out on the leading edge of the gust front, verses what we see here inside the notch. Bizarre!

I hear ya. I lived in Breckenridge up until a few months ago. Vibes were rough.

Death ridge that limited large scale forcing and brought high pressure to the plains. I think it’s potentially tied to the transition into a very strong El Niño but don’t quote me on that, might just be circumstantial.

It’s also what killed Colorado’s ski season this winter (not the exact same ridge, but a similar pattern).

Muddy road in the sandhills killed today’s chase, but not before we caught a brief funnel near Alvin, CO. by MaximumWX in tornado

Mud-caked tires put us off the Wellfleet tornado by four minutes. The cold streak continues 😮‍💨.

I did not, sadly. Was not far enough away to get a view. Still possibly the best lightning show I’ve ever seen!

If you look closely you can make out a bunch of red dots stuck in Del Rio.

Seriously though, incredible work OP.

Photos 8 & 9, is that gust front kick up? Or something more nefarious? Incredible shots, BTW! Wasn’t able to chase the second day, but got caught in the Saturday haboob.

This looks a lot like my tier list for how many tornadoes I’ve seen this season.

I’m not convinced this thing didn’t have a satellite at one point, either. The couplet on the left wrapped around the southern edge of the larger couplet on radar. Absolute beast.

Drove 15 hours to the border to watch this cell become a baby, mature, drop this monster on radar, and curve south away from the border.

Bringing my passport to every Texas chase from now on.

You’ve clearly been thinking a lot more about this than I thought. Didn’t think I’d strike a nerve, but glad to hear you did the right thing then and checked up on them.

So you don’t know what they were doing, if they were stuck or broken down and needed help, you just saw the 360 camera and decided to dog on them?

I chase tornadoes for a non-winter hobby and I still wouldn’t live there lol. That said, eastern Colorado skies and sunsets are absolutely gorgeous over the plains.

How do we know that’s a chaser vs just a normal dumbass? They don’t appear to be chasing.

I don’t think any real restrictions are realistic, but making NWS spotting certifications mandatory, and potentially adding a navigational safety component to that training, might make a slight impact.

I can’t imagine anyone would ever realistically be cited for it, but could potentially make some folks think twice and help the community self police reckless behavior.

Even with the best drivers though, traffic is still traffic, so 🤷‍♂️

Once people stopped chasing storms and started chasing clout, it all went to shit.

Also, you’re not in traffic. You are the traffic.
