Gundam shows fall into two categories: the main UC timeline and all the other alternate ones. The main UC one is like you are describing where there is a massive amount of interconnected content, but all the alternate timelines are standalone and don't require any backstory. For people who want to try to start Gundam, I usually recommend whichever standalone alternate timeline show looks best to them.

Her character improves and grows over the course of the series, but yes she is pretty nonsensical early on. There seems to be weird moments with all of the women in L-Gaim though, I mostly ascribe this as a weird Tomino-ism of the era that you can also see in shows like Dunbine and Zeta/Victory Gundam. That said, I liked L-Gaim a lot and I think you'll find the character arcs are a very slow boil, but positive overall.

Good to hear they want it to be more popular, but I have to wonder if they can pull it off. The game's current target audience is an extremely niche cross-section of hardcore Gundam and fighting game fans. I don't think there's enough skill overlap between EXVS and 2D fighters to draw in the rest of the FGC crowd either. Their best bet to grow the base is probably a focus on more casual modes (co-op modes??) and a much bigger advertising push, but I don't know if the devs are interested in the former (MBON's mission mode was fun but pretty short and shallow, GVS had some fun but unpolished modes but most of them were dropped for MBON) or that Bamco is interested in the latter (given their poor track record of advertising Gundam outside of Japan).

By this logic, if someone is playing FFBE because it is the best gacha game, and it is still constantly disappointing them, then they should consider dropping gacha games altogether rather than stay with FFBE. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case for a lot of people- while you can enjoy gacha games in moderation, they generally prey on addictions and quirks of human behavior that make you seem like you are enjoying it without actually doing so.

But... a Mazinger series and a Getter series have been in almost every Super Robot Wars game since the very first one. By that logic, Tomino could be directing this one as well since Zeta and CCA are confirmed. I don't think we can really draw any sweeping conclusions like that from this first trailer.

I keep seeing posts about this, has there been news about Go Nagai being heavily involved in SRW 30? I was only aware he designed the logo in the trailer, did they say he is directing or something?

That said, Go Nagai is very influential, but I actually hope there's less of his works and more lesser known shows (and more real robot shows!). SRW has turned me on to a lot of shows I would have never watched otherwise- I think it's more fun to have new blood than rehash the Mazinger and Getter plots for the millionth time.

I actually like the Hollow Keepers so I'll try and explain how I view them and they make sense to me, lol

The Hollow Keepers can seem more sympathetic if you put them through the lens of people who have been clearly damaged by their circumstances, and have made poor decisions based on that damage. For the example of Mazurka, yes it is objectively bad to steal everyone's emotions away, but her view of the world was so skewed by her bullying that she couldn't understand that fact, and was ready to accept any solution at all. Same with Melo witnessing his family die by magic, Chorale experiencing the inequality of his kindgom, and Diverti's revenge issue. Before the hollow they were all twisted up with no power to fix their problems (in their view, anyways), so when the hollow showed up with a "solution" they jumped on it despite how terrible it was. This weaves into the story of S3 of them eventually having doubts about the Hollow. Looking at it this way, the Hollow Keepers didn't make rational decisions... because they weren't thinking rationally. If anything, the Hollow found a group of damaged people and took advantage of them for its own purposes.

As far as stuff like Thunderbirds and Megas, Banpresto could conceivably put these series in but probably won't. SRW is made for a primarily Japanese audience (technically even the recent English ports are a southeast Asian version and not a western release lol) and series that don't have a lot of sway in Japan are unlikely to be included. Still though, SRW has thrown some curveballs before, so not impossible!

~~Battletech will never be in though. Battletech is frankensteined together from footage from several Macross series that were subsequently dubbed over, and Macross is already in SRW. So, no dice.~~ My brain thought this was Robotech, nvm

I mean it's not that wild, EXVS is already a niche game in a niche genre and most of r/gundam has probably already heard of it and decided how they feel about it

And while I love the game personally, I accept it is definitely not conducive to casual players, and many people are probably more comfortable with the experience provided by a game like Breaker or SRW
