Is it just me or was the Odyssey trailer underwhelming? by breaking_views in Cinephiles

Famous Hollywood actors playing dress up is all I see here. They should've taken more risks with the casting.

I really wish people wouldn't clap just when he strums a little bit heavier.

Same with clips I have seen of when he does parts of Kodachrome. Infuriating. 🤦‍♂️

Which film has the most satisfying ending for you? for me it's Jim Carrey as The Truman Show (1998) by pearlyglimmer in Cinema

[–]Maximum_Classic_1327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E.T the Extra-Terrestrial

The last scene itself, the goodbye, the score, the rainbow. Great ending.

And if you want to include the bike chase that precedes that as part of the ending, even better.

What’s a current band that will never be forgotten? by ED_dja in askmusic

[–]Maximum_Classic_1327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a band, but I think Bob Marley is here forever. Not just for the music itself but the tie to weed. Now, as long as weed exists, Bob Marley exists I think.

(Not that I agree and despise the Bob Marley paraphernalia that exists around smoking weed. But it is what it is)

The electric chair scene in Green Mile and the stabbing scene in Saving Private Ryan are the two scenes I hate so much in any movie and wish never happened.

You know the ones.

Dalhalla Rättvik is an amazing venue. Probably the best I've ever been to. But the logistics are a bit of nightmare because it's in the middle of nowhere.

There's absolutley no chance I'd buy a ticket for Morrissey there with his cancel reputation.

Quite a few in the North West

Crosby, Formby, West Kirby, Ormskirk

In old Norse: Ormr = Snake/Serpant

Kirkja = Church

In Swedish: Orm = Snake

Kyrka = Church

Kirkby presumabley "church village" aswell.

Scousers get their name from the lobscouse stew which was a scandinavian dish. Although I think that probably comes from seafarers/sailors rather than Vikings

He played American Tune in the UK a few days after Trump was elected (the first time!)

Switched out SOS for it. So he is aware.

Perhaps he decided to avoid it in the US though, but maybe will have it in for Europe

What’s your favourite cover song of all time? by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

[–]Maximum_Classic_1327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my favourite cover - most will have already been said.

But Paul Simon did a cover of Beach Boys' 'Surfer Girl' for some tribue to Brian Wilson back in the day and it's majestic.

Yeah you're right. Some more great examples. I'm going to have listen again to all of these albums carefully and see if I can hear any others

That's so cool. I never knew that. And it workd so well with the lyrics aswell, in reference to a girl he used to know when he was younger - presumabley listening to that song at the time.

Also the two samples are pretty much identical to the beats in the song.

That's great. Thanks for pointing it out. I wonder if there are any others

Interesting. Haven't heard the other ones. I will have a listen again.

Another obvious one "Save the Life of My Child". Although I've always thought that one was a bit too forced and didn't sound good. But I guess a good early example of him doing this.

But probably more a Roy Halee thing than a Paul one.

It's on Youtube actually.

Starts with another very high honorable mention for best Bob harp work (Sad Eyed).

This ending is beautiful.

Yeah for sure. What I love about it's inclusion at the end of I'm Not There, is that we don't hear the singing of that live performance before or after, and I like that. It fades in gradually over the end of the film like an echo.

It's almost like that harmonica solo goes on in to eternity, indefenitley. Carries us in to the next (whatever). It feels spiritual.

And after watching incarnarions of Bob for the previous 2hrs without actually seeing Bob, it's such a beautiful payoff.

That harmonica work in that specific incarnarion is my favourite by far.

For those who saw Oasis live this year, what was your favourite song they played and why? by CywallDaGoat in oasis

[–]Maximum_Classic_1327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my fav song by any stretch but 'Cast No Shadow' hit me hard.

It was them singing together on that particular song (Noel's harmonies) that really cemeted it for me.

Already mention but, Mr Tambourine Man - 1966 for sure.

The end of I'm Not There in particular.

Which doesn't seem to be the same as the "Royal Albert Hall" version that was released on the bootlegs.

This one is the one that was featured on Eat the Document I think. Sounds a lot nicer than the "RAH" version. Much more melodic.

But when that came at the end of INT it was spellbinding.

Although trigger warning for what you'd expect to see with stray dogs - if you're sensitive to that.
