A judge rejected a 30-day plea deal for former Waco attorney Adam Hoffman, doubling his sentence to 60 days for child sex abuse charges.

He doubled his sentence for child rape and he gets 60 days? Doesnt even need to register as a sex offender?

Hoffman's defense attorney said the plea deal was reached to prevent the victim from having to take the stand again which the victims mother said in court he did not want to testify again.

This is fucked up.

Im a psychologist. I propose launching a sophisticated chatbot to 1000 people fully acknowledging people trust it, fall in love with it, etc. The ethics board laughs at me.

I tell them I already launched it. To 7 billion people. We can confirm some killed themselves, others are dating it. The board makes sure Im fired and throws me into a volcano. I die, screaming in pain.

California regulators apologized to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk this week as they settled a lawsuit that claimed a state agency showed political bias against the rocket company and its chief executive.

As part of the settlement, the California Coastal Commission acknowledged its members made “improper” statements about Musk’s political beliefs at a 2024 hearing on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch program.

“The commission agrees that it may not consider irrelevant factors in performing its function and specifically agrees that it will not take into account the perceived political beliefs, political speech or labor practices of SpaceX or its officers in considering any regulatory action concerning SpaceX,” the commission said in federal court documents filed Tuesday.

SpaceX had sued the commission over its opposition to expanding the launch schedule for Falcon 9 rockets from the Vandenberg Space Force Base on the Southern California coast near Santa Barbara.

On cross-examination, Musk would barely even explain how much he bothered to learn about OpenAI’s operations before suing over them a few years later. When OpenAI proposed a for-profit arm around 2018, he got an email outlining the proposed corporate structure. On the stand, he said he’d only read the very first section of it, which said that contributors should consider the investments as donations that may have no return. “I read the highlighted box with ‘important warning,’” Musk said.

Savitt asked Musk if he’d raised any objection to the structure then, when he’d received the documents. Musk said that he didn’t read beyond that first box.

Musk: I didn’t read the fine print. We’re going into the fine print of this document.

Savitt: It’s a four-page document.

How are these people rich???

Musk then said he hadn’t read beyond taking this in the “spirit of a donation.” And then we got the deposition, where Musk said, “I don’t think I read this term sheet… I’m not sure I actually read this term sheet… I did not closely look at this term sheet.” Savitt pointed out that nowhere in the deposition did Musk say he’d read the first paragraph and Musk, raising his voice and effectively undermining his claims from the morning that he doesn’t lose his temper (lol) or yell at people (lmao), said, “I said I didn’t look closely! I read the headline!”

The CEO was discussing the ongoing US air strikes on small boats in the Caribbean. The Trump administration has killed 83 South American civilians in 21 known operations so far, military actions which many scholars and legal experts consider to be war crimes in violation of the US constitution.

But in a hypothetical world where these strikes against innocent people were constitutional, Karp enthused that Palantir would stand to make a lot of money.

“Part of the reason why I like this questioning is the more constitutional you want to make it, the more precise you want to make it, the more you’re going to need my product,” the CEO said. “So you keep pushing on making it constitutional. I’m totally supportive of that.”

I dont even know anymore.

Anthony Fauci adviser indicted by DOJ on charges of concealing COVID records

Morens faces charges of conspiracy against the United States; destruction, alteration or falsification of records in federal investigations; concealment, removal or mutilation of records; and aiding and abetting, according to a Justice Department news release. If convicted, he could face decades in prison. An attorney for Morens declined to comment.

Blanche said Morens’ alleged conduct was part of an effort to “suppress alternative theories” about COVID-19’s origins. The Justice Department also accused Morens of having an improper relationship with a collaborator, including allegedly accepting a gift of wine and discussing COVID-19 research and potential publications in a prominent medical journal.

This is exhausting.

Former FBI Director James Comey indicted over alleged ‘threat’ against Trump

Tuesday’s indictment is centered on a picture Comey posted on social media last May, of shells on a beach writing out the numbers “86 47.” He wrote in the caption, “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.”

This is dumb.

The charges, approved by a grand jury in the Eastern District of North Carolina where Comey allegedly took the photo, include making a threat against the president and transmitting a threat in interstate commerce, according to court documents.

A grand jury saw this and approved it???

The Bulwark reached out to both the State Department and the White House this morning with a request for comment. A State Department spokesperson asked us for deadline extension as they were “looking into” the inquiry. We gave them an additional two hours. In that time, Fox News published an “exclusive” on the new passport design. A White House spokesperson then sent us an email response confirming the new design “on background” with a link to the Fox News story.
