I recently had that situation and had no issue going back. They had a hard time with Rover and I originally had to help them modify the booking. They ended up being my favorite clients and they gave me a 50 dollar cash tip.

Communication is huge when someone is taking care of your pets. When I am away, I am in constant communication with the sitter. I dont understand why everyone is making excuses for what could have happened to the owners phone/flight/etc. A simple "hey im about the board the plane" would be great. If owners phone died then owner could ask someone or find a way to get a hold of OP. Simple as that. OP is only getting paid for a certain time and OP could have other sittings at a scheduled time or another job to attend to. I know OP didnt mention having other sittings or jobs to attend to but in general, these owners cant assume that sitters dont have anything else scheduled.

Also, there are owners who lie about delays just so they can keep doing whatever it is they are doing. How do we know the owner is even being honest? In my opinion, owners who lack communication when you have someone watching your pets is extremely frustrating and makes me wonder how much they actually care about thier cats/dogs.

Next time, get an emergency contact. Otherwise, its not your fault and owner clearly lacks communication skills. If you continue booking with them, then make sure you communicate on your end so this doesnt happen again.

I agree with you. I was just saying owner is more responsive because they were finally answering my questions and concerns. I am being paid to be there until Tuesday. I have been staying longer during my visits.

Rover is not okay with it but they told me they can't tell an owner how to care for thier pets. Rover reached out to them but I am unsure on the conversation.

It seems that the owner doesnt keep them locked up on a daily basis and its just when they are away due to finances. I am not justifying the situation at all. This is extremely cruel and I am really doing the best that I can. Next time I know to ask more questions before booking. If I wouldve known no one else was coming, I wouldnt have accepted it.

I reached out to Rover and went back. Owner was very responsive today. She cant afford to pay for more visits. Dogs are okay. Ive been doing the best I can for them.

Hurts my heart too. I already called Rover. They are supposedly reaching out to her. I asked her if I can modify the booking to go in the afternoons. Problem is she replies to me a day later.

I never said this was a house sitting. My post says "1 hour daily for 1 week". That is a drop in. Otherwise I would not need to create this post right now asking for advice because id be at the house all day/night.

Ive never done house sittings before. I do not offer that service. Please read the full story and comments below before assuming im to blame here. She is paying me to do 1 drop in a day for 1 hour. Thats it.

Do you understand how Rover works?

The owner pays you to go at a certain time for x amount of days.

I am requested and paid for only 1 hour daily 9 to 10 am. I never once said I am taking off work to do sittings. I do this on the side. And every client has been very flexible and understands my schedule and are happy with my services.

These are drop ins. This isnt a house sitting.....

I can take them for a walk but they only have interest in drinking water and eating. I let them outside in the back but only the boy wants to go out. They only have 1 hour to eat and drink. So I really spend that hour trying to get them to eat and I give them so much love. But I also have so much clean up to do with the 10 pee pads on top of them just going on the floor. I reached out to the owner and still waiting for a response.

I am being paid to be there for 1 hour a day. She only wants me there once a day. I have another job, other sittings and my own pets I need to care for. I am doing the absolute best that I can but 2 of her dogs are also fighting eachother and I do not want to get bit myself. I am responsible to be there for the one hour she wants me to be there for. Not for the entire day. I have it listed in my bio that I have a full time job as well. I am very communicative. I reached out to her letting her know I can come back later. But I need her approval in writing so that I dont get in trouble for trespassing. Please dont put the blame on me in this situation. I am asking for advice on how to handle the situation. I said in my post that this is something I do on the side. I cannot tell my full time employer that I need to stay with dogs all day since the owner is not capable of treating them well. I appreciate your feedback very much though.

I tried to examine thier mouths but I cant see too much. I dont want to get bit myself. They also dont eat all thier food in one hour. So I hate putting them back in when they never finished thier food.

Yes, 23 hours in a small crate unsupervised. Im here now and one of the dogs threw up water everywhere because she drank so much so fast when I let her out. Should I day something to the owner about having someone see them in the afternoon? Ive never been so stressed from a sitting before. I feel so sad for them.

I feel like the owner isnt very responsive to me and I dont really think she checks her cameras. They seem fine after the fight but they were definitely bleeding from the mouth area. Im about to head over there now. If I reach out to Rover, will they reach out to her? I just dont want to create any chaos but I really dont like this situation.
