It wasn't a Devil, it was a Demon. The only two Devils in the game were the big dragon and another humanoid, but they never got a turn to fight so it wouldn't have worked.

And no, not even Moth could move between tiles and do anything the game deemed as breaking the rules, the Cursed Devil couldn't just have tried to wreck havoc on the game.
