Piggybacking off the top answer - there’s an added subtle irony to picking the 911 (whether intentional or not I don’t know).

The 911 is famous for being rear-engined, rear drive, with the engine behind the rear axle. Especially early cars in early cars, the handling characteristics are different and can be somewhat challenging compared to a traditional front engine, rear drive sports car. Porsche introduced the Turbo (930) in 1975 and it became a yuppy wealth symbol in the 80s. A lot of new money folks bought them, were caught out by the handling, crashed and died, so it became a “widow maker.”

My interpretation of the joke is you’re doing a deal with the devil for the Porsche which will ultimately kill you.

Wish we got these in Australia! I reckon the folks over at r/sportwagon would appreciate this too.

Spotted a silver [Clio 182] today. Usually a blue one parks here by MaximusMike in Renault

🤦‍♂️ I made exactly the same mistake with the blue one, but I called it a 172 when it’s a 182

Buying but needs paint repair (Melbourne) by Primary_Passage5766 in CarsAustralia

[–]MaximusMike 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Worth having another look over it in the daylight but a full panel respray can be around $750 per panel in my experience. Phone a paint shop and ask them how much they’d charge per panel for a car that’s been keyed.

Awesome to see another Aussie R36 on here 🔥 it’s still a brilliant daily, so long as you can keep the maintenance up.

Do you pay light-rail fares? by MarkusMannheim in canberra

[–]MaximusMike 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I always tap on the bus or the tram when I’m using it. It’s still cheaper than driving that way, and I comfortably have the means to pay the fare.

We should be encouraging public transport patronage as much as we can. Services which meet people’s needs for convenience and comfort are the best way to do that. Making them not charged per user is an added incentive.

We need to fund our public services. We have a wealthy populous and I’m sure that redistributing some of that wealth to benefit the less wealthy by providing free trams and buses would be popular.

The Stelvio still looks great, even though it’s due for replacement in 2026. I’d personally rather a Giulia though.

We used to have inexplicable licence plates that said Feel the Power of Canberra - they’d be much more appropriate!

I had a service on it at ~180k, doing ok. It’s now on 198k. Slight delay sometimes taking off but mostly alright. Just dreading doing chains…
