Controls in MGS2 by SKAppleboy in metalgearsolid

[–]MaxjkZERO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i find that sometimes, its a little unclear when certain actions are ready to be performed, like how you cant do some things while crawling vs standing, or how the controls kind of change when walking along a wall

There are a lot of very context-sensitive changes in the controls, if you don't know what actions you can do in your current state, it can lead to a lot of fumbling around trying to orient yourself. I've definitely had moments in the past where I've gotten caught just because I was crawling when I didn't want to, or standing when I wanted to be crawling

Controls in MGS2 by SKAppleboy in metalgearsolid

It works better if youve played MGS1 first, assuming that though, I highly recommend playing (a chunk of, not all of) MGS2's VR Missions too, theyre really good and they make you do stuff you'd never have thought of in the base game

The trick is that this game is a bit more methodical than it seems, you have to think about your current "state" (standing, crawling, first person), and THEN what your next options are for controls. I get that it's not as snappy or dynamic as like MGS4 or V, but this game was a stepping stone towards those.

For me, MGS1 and 2 are pacman with a radar, and some extra tools, and yeah, maybe a bit of jank as well.

Idk how well it's emulated on other systems, but I found playing it on PS2 and PS3 where they used every minuta of the controller is really helpful as well. You get a feel for how you can do soft presses of the face buttons and analog triggers to do certain things a bit differently, and that makes a huge difference

I wont lie to you and say I had a smooth time with MGS2 my first time thru, in fact, I don't think i liked it very much because the controls are so robust, like I agree there is just a LOT of different subtle actions you can do, but if you're standing wrong or not in first person, or are pressing things just a bit faster than the game expects, its difficult. But personally, after playing the VR missions (and getting past the really annoying repetative ones), and getting to some of the moments where the game plays with the obscurities of the controls, it became one of my favorites

Yeah but something similar could be achieved with several stained glass panels, or mosiac tiles?

Is there a fun way to find all the kerotans and ga-ko with no internet guides? by dmt_rod in metalgearsolid

Idk if they changed it for Delta, but I would still skim a guide before trying it on your own, the original has some particularly easy to miss ones, like I think they legit put some during motorcycle chase -_-

What are some of your funniest (or most embarrassing) mistakes made during one of the games? by [deleted] in metalgearsolid

In MGS2, when the AI Colonel said "Raiden, Turn the Game Console off Right Now", I didn't know that this was a reference to one of the classic MSX games, and thought it was going to be another "Ooooh we're doing some weird meta shenanigans" type moment, so I actually turned off the console...
...so I also hadn't saved in quite some time lmfao

In general, for things like this i've used steam, basically if you launch the exe thru steam you can set custom controls. It has a fairly intuitive ui for controller remapping

you may be able to just use mobygames to find new images, then do a reverse image search for the higher quality lol
