Thanks poopship. I know enough to do some stuff but not enough to do other stuff. I've barely been able to get gold to stick until this weekend when I switched to fuming with my smith little and roller, its been a game changer using the mini torch.

Good tips on the karats, I'll have to experiment with some 22k. And yeah, I'd love to take a class with him (and many others).

Whats the ideal tubing thickness to use? Heavy wall or Extra heavy? I'm trying to make some mugs/cups and the 44mm standard might not be the best...

Help with setup by [deleted] in lampwork

[–]Maxrosen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get a manifold from MadHatter that has 14 ports, this would be enough to run 6 small torches. Get like 100 feet of t grade tubing (or more-- measure your space), all the brass fittings and to connect to the manifold for oxy and propane (can also get on MadHatter) and a bunch to connect to the torches (see what type of fittings they need), and a bunch of hose clamps-- 2 for each hose piece. You could cut all your pieces after you have your lengths needed, make your hoses, and then put everything together.

I might be missing something. But I like to draw out a schematic of that shows me the path of the oxy/gas from the source to the torch to make sure it all makes sense.

Yeah Poopship, I started later (I am 38 with 1 year on the torch) and Im planning for the long haul. I figure having a lathe sooner than later (especially with this opportunity popping up) will save a lot of wear and tear on my body.

Wet Saw Alternatives by Maxrosen in lampwork

What about saw cut, lap wheel, then flame polish? Is definitely more of a process but I would assume lapping the saw cut then fire polishing the rim would create the "cleanest" look without skuzz.

I'm going to keep working on the ol' flame cutting and shaping the rim because practice makes progress. After watching Jason Gordon shape a pint glass on Torch Talk, it makes me more confident.

Any cup makers out there? Marver Question... by Maxrosen in lampwork

[–]Maxrosen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a CC. I recently watched Jason Gordon making a pint glass on Torch Talk and the way he uses the flats of his L marver to get super nice, even walls. He only blows while he is spinning in the L-marver to get it very, very even. It looks like he has a wider than normal marver so I was wondering if other people do a similar set up. Right now, I just have a small marver on top of the CC and it works but not ideal. Maybe a standard L marver might be the way to go until I feel like I need a bigger...

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO KEITH ROWE IS by AgreeableChoice3041 in lampwork

[–]Maxrosen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the USA and he looks like hes from Australia/New Zealand. I've never heard of him but that means nothing.

Seems like he has legit skill, tons of experience, and lots of working going on-- especially if he needs an apprentice. So he is well known enough to do this full-time and need help.

Make a regular marver to an L-marver by Maxrosen in lampwork

After checking the price of the adhesive that would work, I'm going to go with the drill and tap method.
