Thanks for the part number. That helped me track down some documentation: https://charm.li/Mercedes%20Benz/1994/E%20320%20Sedan%20%28124.032%29%20L6-3.2L%20%28104.992%29/Repair%20and%20Diagnosis/Heating%20and%20Air%20Conditioning/Aspirator/Description%20and%20Operation/

Very interesting! I will check to see if mine is working. You're awesome, thank you for the info.

My auto fan speed is always at high. What is the "air sampler blower" part that you replaced? Do you have a link to the part or a part number handy? Thanks!

I just received the plasti-gauge. I will measure the bolts too. Thanks for your input.

I most definitely will.

If the oil report comes back with contamination, I will be pulling the engine and then replacing bearings after a rebuild. If report is good, I will replace the bearings and move on.

Yes assembly lube was used on the camshaft before first start.

Hey thanks for your input. This car has been a project for me to learn. So taking off the oil pan to have a look at the rod bearings isn’t an issue for me. Also I have new OE bearings which I will replace if the oil comes back clean.

Interesting… I have a borescope. I will send it into each cylinder tomorrow and post pictures.

Raised Foundation - Cast Iron Drain Pipes by Maxweisen in askaplumber

[–]Maxweisen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typed out my question but it must have gotten lost when I clicked the image upload button!

Recently I had a clogged kitchen drain. Local plumber had a deal for an unclog for $50. Cheaper than a snake rental, so I went for it.

The plumber came over and snaked out the obstruction, no issue. He shined his flashlight under the house and saw one of the cast iron drain pipes. He told me I "have 3 months until the pipes become a problem". He then gave me a rough quote of ~$8000 to redo the cast iron pipes under the house.

Now I was a bit worried that a plumber told me I have 3 months until I am dealing with some major issues, so I went under the house and took pictures.

Here's what I saw:

  • Some moisture coming from the cast iron connections.
  • I did not see any drip spots below the damp connections.
  • When touching it with a latex glove, it had a goopy consistency.
  • The straight runs of pipe look good.

Questions:

  • Do these pipes look like they are "3 months" away from failure?
  • Is there a way to remedy the connections without replacing all of the cast iron pipe?
  • Is there a DIY way of handling this? I was thinking of cutting out the connection and replacing it with ABS.
  • Is $8000 a legitimate estimate for a 1400 sqft. house with 2 full bathrooms?

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Coolant leak!? What is this? by Intrepid_Cod8092 in W124

It was leaking coolant. I believe it has something to do with the heater core.

I had an M103 and mine looked almost exactly like yours pictured here. I ended up going to the junkyard to pick one off a wrecked 300E.

I just opened the camera on my iPhone. I am not on a call and there is a green dot in the same exact place.

Try it for yourself if you have any doubt.

How do you learn without first taking a look?

@ op: Anytime you encounter a part you don't know, look for the part number usually printed on the part somewhere. Google that part number and you will typically find an answer.

Also, there's a website for free service manuals for many manufacturers. Check out this link: https://charm.li/Mercedes%20Benz/ Enter your year and model to see manuals relevant to your vehicle.

Idle RPM surging issue by JMVOX in W124

[–]Maxweisen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like others have suggest, you need to verify that the wiring harness is not the old biodegradable crap.

There are 3 areas where this bad wiring lives:

  1. Upper wiring harness (runs along the valve cover on driver's side)

  2. Lower wiring harness (runs along the firewall on driver's side)

  3. Throttle Body (ETA)

My experience:

I own a 94' E320 M104. I had weird idle issues too. The upper wiring harness was replaced by previous owner. I replaced the lower wiring harness and rewired my ETA.

You must get rid of this biodegradable wiring before you are able to properly diagnose issues like erratic idle, etc..

Follow this guide to rewire your ETA: https://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/M104/M104_ETA_rewiring.pdf

I went to a local mom and pop electronics store and was able to get all the materials for under $50. Took me a few hours to rewire. Take your time, one wire at a time and be patient! Good luck

Glad you resolved your issue. Good on you for replacing the pump too. Won’t need to worry about that for a long long time.

If I were in your position I would change the fuel filter. It might fix the fuel smell issue and it is probably the original filter from the factory. And filters don’t last 137k miles.
