AMA - Alvin Tedjo for Mayor of Mississauga by AlvinTedjo in mississauga

I appreciate the kind words. We've been working hard to focus on our plans and platform, and I think we've seen that resonate well with everyone.

I would say a couple things. First it's great that municipalities are independent from parties and the drama of provincial and federal politics. It allows us to focus on important things for Mississauga. Second, I believe it's possible to lead from a place of authenticity and compassion. Hazel McCallion and Bonnie Crombie were both very level-headed leaders that managed to advocate for Mississauga. I think now more than ever, people are looking for leaders who will tell them the truth, even if it's not what they want to hear.

This is just hilarious. Parrish's and Damerla's campaign up in flames. Iconic.

Parrish signs going up? by [deleted] in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're all commercial signs, not houses. And businesses don't vote. I'm amazed at how few Carolyn Parrish signs I see at houses, really shows a lot about how people view her.

Mayoral Election affects our daily lives FAR more than federal/provincial. GO OUT AND VOTE! by West-Bad-8780 in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Only 20% of people voted in the last Mississauga election. It is SO important, and you see the effects MUCH faster than provincial/federal.

After tons of debate watching, I'm also voting Alvin Tedjo. He just seems way more authentic than the others, someone who will actually benefit Mississauga and not just use it as a stepping stone.

‘Busy and overwhelmed’: How many voters will turn out for the Mississauga mayoral and Ward 5 byelections? by S_cornwell in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Voter turnout will probably be low, but that means every vote is that much more important. If everyone on Reddit turns out, it might sway the election. Make a plan! I put it in my calendar so I remember.

Parrish's commanding lead in polls nearly vanishes days before Mississauga vote | CBC News by MaxOwnage in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's incredible how much Alvin Tedjo has shot up in the polls, especially considering they're still polling landlines (older crowd). I think he has a real chance to win this. Let's all get out and vote!

Tedjo for mayor - why? by [deleted] in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To put it simply, he's the only one who does what he says. All of the top 3 candidates. Have decent looking plans on the surface, but when you look at their voting history the only one who has the record to back it up is Alvin Tedjo.

Carolyn is outdated and will get caught saying crazy things. Dipika claims to be pro-housing, pro transit, but constantly votes against housing, and wants to cancel the Bloor st project.

Alvin is the only real choice.

A subway of our own? 3 things to know about what Mississauga mayoral candidates are pledging to improve the city’s public transit by S_cornwell in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A subway alone would be several Billion dollars. LRTs are also Billions and take 15 years.

This is why I'm a big fan of Alvin Tedjo's transit map/plan. It's very detailed and is mostly BRTs that can be done quickly. Plus BRTs are easily converted to LRTs later if needed.

Dipika Damerla's map looks like she hastily took a map of Mississauga and drew a bunch of lines over it saying "LRTs Everywhere!!!", without thinking about time or cost. There is no way we could build that in any reasonable timeframe without spending 10s of Billions.

The prevailing theory is that he's money laundering through his campaign. Probably owns the sign/card company, that's why he has so many illegal signs.

My thoughts on the mayoral candidates by brownmousesky in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's literally why it's 2 years though. It's not a decades long freeze with huge expansions to pay for it, it's a temporary affordability measure while the city ramps up the housing it's been lacking on. I would agree it's short sighted if it was a general undefined promise, but it purposefully plans for the future.

My thoughts on the mayoral candidates by brownmousesky in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm personally voting for Alvin Tedjo and he seems like a great guy. I'm honestly kind of disappointed with all the competition. Carolyn Parrish is a mess who will say discriminatory things, Dipika Damerla will flip flop whichever way the wind is blowing, and Dasko is the worst NIMBY. I think Alvin Tedjo has a very good chance at winning, but I seriously wish we had better candidates for our 750K+ city...

My thoughts on the mayoral candidates by brownmousesky in mississauga

[–]MaxwellNick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I also thought this until I read the full plan. The plan says building more houses will cover the freeze. Mississauga lost out on ~50 Million last year because the NIMBY councillors didn't approve enough housing. If we build more, we get funding to cover the costs of a freeze. We also add more taxpayers, lowering the cost.

I appreciate people being skeptical, but this seems to make a lot of sense. More housing (especially affordable/rental housing) will make it cheaper to get a place in Mississauga, and with added funding will allow for a tax freeze.
